Sunday Morning Praise

I With Thee Would Begin

I with Thee would begin, O my Savior so dear,
On the way that I still must pursue;
I with Thee would begin every day granted here,
As my earnest resolve I renew
To be and remain Thine forever.

I with Thee would begin and go forth in Thy name,
Which alone doth salvation bestow;
Fold me close to Thy breast where found joy all who came,
There is refuge for me, too, I know,
Though all in this world is confusion.

Let Thy Word all divine be my lamp in whose light
I may constantly keep to Thy way;
And each day wouldst Thou cleanse me anew, make me white
In the blood shed for me on that day
The cross Thou didst suffer, Lord Jesus.

I with Thee would begin — yea, and hear one more prayer,
I would close with Thee, too, my brief day,
And when daylight has failed, let me sleep in Thy care,
Until waking Thy child Thou dost say,
“Come, live with Me ever in Heaven.”

Praise the Lord!

For I determined not to know anything…except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
1 Corinthians 2:2

:poly:

Let the World Their Virtue Boast

Let the world their virtue boast, their works of righteousness,
I, a wretch undone and lost, am freely saved by grace;
Other title I disclaim; this, only this, is all my plea
I the chief of sinners am, but Jesus died for me.

I, like Gideon’s fleece, am found unwatered still, and dry,
While the dew on all around, falls plenteous from the sky;
Yet my Lord I cannot blame, the Savior’s grace for all is free
I the chief of sinners am, but Jesus died for me.

Surely He will lift me up, for I of Him have need;
I cannot give up my hope, though I am cold and dead;
To bring fire on earth He came, O that it now might kindled be
I the chief of sinners am, but Jesus died for me.

Jesus, Thou for me hast died, and Thou in me wilt live;
I shall feel Thy death applied, I shall Thy life receive;
Yet, when melted in the flame of love, this shall be all my plea
I the chief of sinners am, but Jesus died for me.

My faith has found a resting place, not in device or creed;
I trust the ever living One, His wounds for me shall plead,
I need no other argument, I need no other plea
It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.
Psalm 116:15

My beloved has gone to his garden...to gather lilies.
Song of Solomon 6:2
It is His garden, and they are His lilies.

:poly:

The Gardener

While we are tending our earthly gardens,
The Gardener lends us His seeds to sow,
The bulbs of His lilies, the roots of His roses,
To plant and cherish and watch them grow.

Sometimes He comes when the day is over
And garners a sheaf of the full-grown wheat,
Ripe for the harvest and waiting the sickle,
Ready to fall at the Reaper’s feet.

And sometimes He comes in the early morning
And tenderly gathers the sweetest flowers,
The buds of the lily, the rose half-opened:
Shall we not joy when He chooses ours?

Shall we not yield God our loveliest blossoms,
Glad that He finds them so fragrant and fair,
Worthy transplanting to heavenly gardens,
To gain new beauty beneath His care?

Never a storm shall sweep over His flowers,
Nor drought shall wither, nor frost shall blight;
About His feet they shall grow unfading,
And bloom forever in His pure sight.

I Will Follow Thee

Savior, I will follow Thee;
Thou art all the world to me;
Tho’ the way I cannot see,
Savior, I will follow Thee.

Savior, I will follow Thee,
Tho’ it lead me to the cross;
Counting all things here but dross,
Savior, I will follow Thee.

Savior, I will follow Thee,
Tho’ it lead through toil and tears;
Through the long and weary years,
Savior, I will follow Thee.

Savior, I will follow Thee
Till the toils of life are o’er;
Till I reach the golden shore,
Savior, I will follow Thee.

Praise the Lord!
He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. Romans 4:20-21

:poly:

There Shall be a Performance of Those Things

There shall be a performance of those things
That loving heart hath waited long to see;
Those words shall be fulfilled to which my clings,
Because my God hath promised faithfully;
And, knowing Him, I ne’er can doubt His Word;
“He speaks and it is done.” The mighty Lord!

There shall be a performance of those things,
O burdened heart, rest ever in His care;
In quietness beneath His shadowing wings
Await the answer to thy longing prayer.
When thou hast “cast thy care,” the heart then sings,
There shall be a performance of those things.

There shall be a performance of those things,
O tired heart, believe and wait and pray;
At eventide the peaceful vesper rings,
Though cloud and rain and storm have filled the day.
Faith pierces through the mist of doubt that bars
The coming night sometimes, and finds the stars.

There shall be a performance of those things,
O trusting heart, the Lord to thee hath told;
Let Faith and Hope arise, and plume their wings,
And soar towards the sunrise clouds of gold;
The portals of the rosy dawn swing wide,
Revealing joys the darkening night did hide.

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3

:poly:

It Is Mine

God’s abiding peace is in my soul today,
Yes, I feel it now, yes I feel it now;
He has taken all my doubts and fears away,
Tho’ I cannot tell you how.

He has wrought in me a sweet and perfect rest,
In my raptured heart I can feel it now;
He each passing moment keeps me saved and blest,
Floods with light my heart and brow.

He has given me a never failing joy,
Oh, I have it now! oh, I have it now!
To His praise I will my ransomed pow’rs employ,
And renew my grateful vow.

Oh, the love of God is comforting my soul,
For His love is mine, yes, His love is mine!
Waves of joy and gladness o’er my spirit roll,
Thrilling me with life divine.

It is mine, mine, blessed be His name!
He has given peace, perfect peace to me;
It is mine, mine, ever blessed be His name!
Mine for all eternity!

Sunday Morning Praise

Lift Up Your Hearts

“Lift up your hearts!” We lift them, Lord, to Thee;
Here at Thy feet none other may we see;
Lift up your hearts! E’en so, with one accord,
We lift them up, we lift them to the Lord.
Above the level of the former years,
The mire of sin, the weight of guilty fears,
The mist of doubt, the blight of love’s decay,
O Lord of Light, lift all our hearts today!

Above the swamps of subterfuge and shame,
The deeds, the thoughts, that honor may not name,
The halting tongue that dares not tell the whole,
O Lord of Truth, lift every Christian soul!
Above the storms that vex this lower state,
Pride, jealousy, and envy, rage, and hate,
And cold mistrust that holds e’en friends apart,
O Lord of Love, lift every brother’s heart!

Lift every gift that Thou Thyself hast given;
Low lies the best till lifted up to heaven;
Low lie the bounding heart, the teeming brain,
Till, sent from God, they mount to God again.
Then, as the trumpet call, in after years,
“Lift up your hearts!” rings pealing in our ears,
Still shall those hearts respond, with full accord
“We lift them up, we lift them to the Lord!”

Psalm 9:1

Psalm 118:23

How Often

How often, Lord, our grateful eyes
Have seen what Thou hast done,
How often does Thy love surprise
From dawn to set of sun.

How often has a gracious rain
On Thine inheritance,
When it was weary, wrought again
An inward radiance.

Thou Who upon the heavens dost ride,
What miracle of love Brings
Thee more swiftly to our side
Than even thought can move?

Our love is like a little pool,
Thy love is like the sea,
O beautiful, O wonderful,
How noble Love can be.

A Little Longer

Trav’ler, tho’ thy feet are worn, Climb a little longer!
Tho’ with thorns thy hands are torn, Cling a little longer!
Thorns shall change to waving palms, tempests toheav’nly calms,
Joy shall banish thine alarms, Wait a little longer!

Tho’ thy heart is aching sore, bear a little longer!
Stands another cross before, lift a little longer!
No more heartache, no more pain, in the land thou yet shall gain,
Only faithfully remain, true a little longer!

Step by step climb higher still, climb a little longer!
At the top thy heart shall thrill, hope a little longer!
On thy brow shall shine a gem, sparkling in life’s diadem,
In the new Jerusalem, on a little longer!

Glory in the sunset land waits a little longer!
Till the loved shall clasp thy hand, with a love grown stronger;
Friends are beck’ning from the skies, urging on the soul that tries
Still to reach Heav’n’s paradise, on! a little longer!

Praise the Lord!

For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:18

For we walk by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7

:poly:

By Faith in Christ I Walk With God

By faith in Christ I walk with God,
With Heav’n, my journey’s end, in view;
Supported by His staff and rod,
My road is safe and pleasant too.
I travel through a desert wide
Where many round me blindly stray;
But He vouchsafes to be my Guide,
And will not let me miss my way.

Though snares and dangers throng my path,
And earth and hell my course withstand;
I triumph over all by faith,
Guarded by His almighty hand.
The wilderness affords no food,
But God for my support prepares;
Provides me every needful good,
And frees my soul from wants and cares.

With Him sweet converse I maintain,
Great as He is I dare be free;
I tell Him all my grief and pain,
And He reveals His love to me.
Some cordial from His Word He brings,
Whene’er my feeble spirit faints;
Be this my choice, O Lord, to walk
With Thee, my Guide, my Guard, my Friend.

To stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at evening.
1 Chronicles 23:30

:poly:

On Thee Each Morning, O My God

On Thee each morning, O my God, my waking thoughts attend;
In whom are founded all my hopes, in whom my desires end.
My soul, in pleading wonder lost, Thy boundless love surveys,
And fired with grateful zeal prepares Her sacrifice of praise.

When evening slumbers press my eyes, with Thy protection blest,
In peace and safety I commit my life in Thee to rest.
My spirit in Thy hands secure fears no approaching ill;
For whether waking or asleep Thou, Lord, art with me still.

Then will I daily to the world Thy wondrous acts proclaim;
Whilst all with me shall praises sing and bless Thy sacred name.
At morn, at noon, at night I’ll still the growing work pursue;
And Thee alone wilt praise, to whom eternal praise is due.

Praise the Lord!

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2

:poly:

Bear You One Another’s Burdens

Bear you one another’s burdens, as you struggle on thro’ life;
Turn not on your erring brother, add not to his care and strife;
Let your heart beat kindly for him, for this world with sin is rife.
If his burden be so heavy that he stoops beneath the care,
Help him bear it, of your vigor, give him as you well can spare.

Wipe away the tears of sorrow falling from his weary eyes;
Point him to a joy eternal, in the land beyond the skies,
Ere his pining heart in anguish, bitter, hopeless anguish, dies.
Sympathy and love can brighten burdens that are hard to bear;
Angels bright will help you nobly, angels from the land so fair.

Wrap not close your mantle ’round you Mantle dark, of selfish pride;
In your bosom, gentle impulse do not strive to crush or hide;
There is much of good and evil in this world so broad and wide.
Much for willing hearts of labor, much of good there is to do;
Then arouse! leave not the burden bearing heavy on the few.

Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you.
Psalm 55:22

He Knows

Oh, aching heart, with sorrow torn,
Thy Lord is near and knows;
He knows it all the feet way worn,
The weary cares and woes,
The load of grief in anguish borne,
The Lord is near, He knows.

Oh, fainting soul, with doubts oppressed,
Thy Lord is near and knows;
He knows it all how thou art pressed
On every side with foes;
He waits to be thy cherished guest;
The Lord is near, He knows.

Oh, weary head, that fain would rest,
Thy Lord is near and knows;
He knows it all, and on His breast
Thou mayest now repose;
Drop every care at His behest,
The Lord is near, He knows.

Oh, lonely one, live thou thy best,
Thy Lord is near and knows;
He knows it all, sees every test,
Yes, every tear that flows;
Rejoice, faint heart, His way is best,
Thy Lord is near, He knows.

Sunday Morning Praise

Praise His Name Forever

Glory, honor, majesty and power
Be to Him now risen from the dead,
Who from death hath taken every terror,
And hath made the grave a victor’s bed.

Songs of joy we sing in exultation,
Of our king, Redeemer, Lord of all!
For He lives, o’er sin and death victorious;
Earth and Heav’n His mighty deeds extol.

Angels praise Him, in the highest glory,
Cherubim and seraphim adore;
While our human hearts awake the chorus,
Jesus lives! He lives forevermore!

Praise His name forever,
Lift up the voice in honor of our risen king!
Mighty to deliver,
With angels we His praise will sing.

I was blind, now I see.
John 9:25

:poly:

Praise God For What He’s Done For Me!

Praise God for what He’s done for me!
Once I was blind, but now I see;
I on the brink of ruin fell,
Glory to God! I’m out of hell.

The Lord has pardoned all my sin,
And now to praise Him I’ll begin;
I never praised the Lord before,
But now I’ll praise Him more and more.

I spurned His grace, I broke His laws,
But Jesus undertook my cause;
Bad as I was, He cleansed my soul,
Healed my disease, and made me whole.

Praise God for what He’s done for us!
He’s turned our hearts to praise Him thus,
And now He cries, “Go on, go on!
I’ll crown you when your work is done.”

And above the rest this note shall swell,
This note shall swell, This note shall swell,
And above the rest this note shall swell,
My Jesus has done all things well.

To Be Used of God

I’ve a yearning in my heart that cannot be denied,
It’s a longing that has never been satisfied;
I want this world to know, the one who loves them so,
Like a flame its burning deep down inside.

When I think about the shortness of all these earthly years,
I remember all the wasted days all the wasted tears;
I long to preach the word to those who have never heard,
Of the One who can dispel all they feel.

To be used of God to sing, to speak, to pray,
To be used of God to show someone the way,
I long so much to feel the touch of His consuming fire,
To be used of God is my desire.

“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.”
Matthew 9:37

:poly:

Ho! Reapers of Life’s Harvest

Reapers of life’s harvest,
Why stand with rusted blade,
Until the night draws round thee,
And day begins to fade?
Why stand ye idle, waiting
For reapers more to come?
The golden morn is passing,
Why sit ye idle, dumb?

Thrust in your sharpened sickle,
And gather in the grain,
The night is fast approaching,
And soon will come again;
The Master calls for reapers,
And shall He call in vain?
Shall sheaves lie there ungathered,
And waste upon the plain?

Mount up the heights of wisdom,
And crush each error low;
Keep back no words of knowledge
That human hearts should know.
Be faithful to thy mission,
In service of thy Lord,
And then a golden chaplet
Shall be thy just reward.

Praise the Lord!
There came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we perish.” Then He arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And He said unto them, “Where is your faith?” Luke 8:23-25

:poly:

When the Storms of Life Surround Me

When the storms of life surround me,
And the world seems dark and cold,
When the rain beats down upon me,
And the lightning stabs my soul,
I cry out to my Savior,
“Lord, help me, lest I die!
Do You care not that the billows
Push my boat toward the shoal?”

When the raging winds and tempest,
And the noxious clouds of sin,
Whirl around me like an army,
And my faith is wearing thin,
In a whispering distant thunder,
Comes a voice like morning calm:
“Fear not, I am with you ever,
Till the world shall see its end.”

“I command the winds of heaven,
And the lightning does My will,
I who walked upon the waters,
And who bid the storm be still.
I seek not your destruction,
But to strengthen and make pure;
Keep your faith in Me, believing
I My promises fulfill.”

He is greater than the thunder,
He is mightier than the storm;
He extends His hand to lift me,
And protect my soul from harm.
He will see me safe to harbor,
To the haven of my rest,
Sheltered by the Rock of Ages,
Held in His almighty arm.
