There are womanizers and selfish people in every age, BC. The Bible is honest about that, but clearly doesn't glorify it - quite the opposite.
I love being a mother of 6, but if God had granted me more, I'd have happily raised them. God equips whom He calls - He is our helper, our shield, our fortress, the lifter of our heads. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
Come to think of it, that may well be why you found raising three rowdy boys so nerve-wracking. You didn't trust in Christ at that time, right? You didn't have that peace that passes all understanding. You didn't have the joy of the Lord which is our strength. I'd have torn my head bald by now if I hadn't Christ to guide, help and comfort me. As it is, I find it a delight to raise my kids. It's the housework that makes me crazy
