Does a Christian have a duty, a responsibility, an onus to behave morally, to act kindly, to do good?

Titus 3:14
"And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful."

Scripture seems to clearly say yes.

The confusion then arises. How?

Apart from Christ attempts at good are attempts of building up oneself, pride opposed to the need of God, self before Jesus.

Us with God in fellowship, intimacy and relationship, He moves in us and through us Spiritually as His love and goodness overflow out of us in goodness, kindness, and love.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." Galatians 5:22-25
