God doesn't call for anyone to "give up" anything. He offers a more than fair trade.
Beauty for ashes. Peace for strife. Contentment for discontent. A personal relationship with him for loneliness, Daily bread for hunger, Living water for thirst. A clean and an upright heart for the filthy rags of our own righteousness. Eternal life for the death of the old man.
Instead of trying to take away the rags of the sinner, we should be offering the white linen robes of the saint.
