You can tell the difference when the sin is committed against you: would you rather be murdered or cheated out of a cheeseburger? Would you rather your wife committed adultery, or she stole your last pair of clean underwear? Would you rather have the moral fiber of the nation deteriorate and the strength of traditional marriage be weakened, or a nation of people who frequently broke the speed limit?

All sin degrades a society to some degree, certainly. A little leaven... but some sins make quicker work of it than do others. If we are to believe the Bible, sexual sins are among those that speed up moral decline in a nation. Homosexuality is among those sexual sins.

The reason that homosexuality is being fought so vehemently by Christians today is that it is the front line of the moral battle for our generation. Homosexuality is our battlefield partly because earlier generations failed their battles to stem the tide of promiscuity, to halt the advance of extra-marital affairs, to undo the destruction wrought by skimpy dressing and sexual innuendo. We have come this far in the battle against sexual depravity. If we fail here, pedophilia will be the next battlefield - it's rearing its ugly head now, just waiting its turn for legitimacy.
