Jesus said "Ye will not come," not "Ye cannot come"

John 5:40
And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Many false doctrines can be traced to careless reading and interpretation of God's Word. Those who are convinced God's grace is irresistible insist what God meant in John 5:40 was that God was informing lost sinners they claim could not hear nor understand God that they could not come unto Him, not that they simply would not come unto Him. The erroneous view can be expressed in this misinterpretation of God's message:

Ye cannot come unto me because I will not allow it since I hate you and want to burn you in hell forever for my own pleasure and to bring glory unto myself.
