AG Nessel Files Felony Charges Against Jack Burkman, Jacob Wohl in Voter-Suppression Robocalls

LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has filed charges today against two political operatives for allegedly orchestrating a series of robocalls aimed at suppressing the vote in the November general election.

Jack Burkman, 54, and Jacob Wohl, 22, are each charged with:

One count of election law – intimidating voters, a five-year felony;
One count of conspiracy to commit an election law violation, a five-year felony;
One count of using a computer to commit the crime of election law – intimidating voters, a seven-year felony; and
Using a computer to commit the crime of conspiracy, a seven-year felony.

The charges were filed today in the 36th District Court in Detroit. Arraignment is pending for the defendants. The Attorney General’s office will be working – with local law enforcement if necessary – to secure the appearance of each defendant in Michigan. It’s too early to say if formal extradition will be necessary or if they will present themselves here voluntarily in the very near future.

Burkman, an Arlington, Virginia resident, and Wohl, a Los Angeles, California resident, allegedly attempted to discourage voters from participating in the general election by creating and funding a robocall targeted at certain urban areas, including Detroit. The calls were made in late August and went out to nearly 12,000 residents with phone numbers from the 313 area code.

During its investigation, Nessel’s office communicated with attorneys general offices in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois, all of which reported similar robocalls being made to residents in their states who live in urban areas with significant minority populations. It's believed around 85,000 calls were made nationally, though an exact breakdown of the numbers of calls to each city or state are not available.

Attorney General Nessel’s office is also grateful for the help of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, his staff and other local law enforcement officials who assisted special agents from the Michigan Department of Attorney General as part of this investigation.

“Any effort to interfere with, intimidate or intentionally mislead Michigan voters will be met with swift and severe consequences,” Nessel said. “This effort specifically targeted minority voters in an attempt to deter them from voting in the November election. We’re all well aware of the frustrations caused by the millions of nuisance robocalls flooding our cell phones and landlines each day, but this particular message poses grave consequences for our democracy and the principles upon which it was built. Michigan voters are entitled to a full, free and fair election in November and my office will not hesitate to pursue those who jeopardize that.”

The recorded robocall message warns people about being “finessed into giving your private information to the man” and urges them to “beware of vote by mail.”

The caller, who claims to be associated with an organization founded by Burkman and Wohl, falsely tells people that mail-in voting, in particular, will allow personal information to become part of a special database used by police to track down old warrants and by credit card companies to collect outstanding debts. The caller also deceptively claims the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will use the information to track people for mandatory vaccines. However, none of that is true.

Jacob Wohl (born December 12, 1997) is an American far-right conspiracy theorist, fraudster, and internet troll.

Wohl has been involved, along with conservative lobbyist and conspiracy theorist Jack Burkman, in multiple plots that attempted to frame public figures for fictitious sexual assaults, including in October 2018 against U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller, in April 2019 against 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, and in April 2020 against White House Coronavirus Task Force member Anthony Fauci.

Wohl has created and promulgated other false or unfounded claims and conspiracy theories, mainly against Democratic Party politicians such as Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris, Ilhan Omar, and Elizabeth Warren. To aid his schemes, Wohl has created multiple fake private intelligence agencies, and has fabricated death threats and protests against himself.

St. Paul – Today, Rep. Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa) announced that he has uncovered evidence of a massive, systemic voter fraud In Minnesota. In an 11:00 a.m. press conference, Rep. Drazkowski will detail some of his findings.

“Widespread voter fraud in Minnesota has always been suspected, but our election laws make it nearly impossible to catch the crooks after the fact.” Drazkowski said. “Now new evidence clearly points to a culture of fraud which has resulted in mountains of fraudulent ballots being cast and counted, possibly changing the outcome of several races.”

In 2018, Rep. Drazkowski filed complaints against Rep. Ilhan Omar with the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board for improper use of campaign funds. After the Board imposed serious penalties on Omar, Rep. Drazkowski appeared on several national news broadcasts. He published his findings at OmarTruth.com. Several members of the Somali community in Minneapolis then began reaching out to Rep. Drazkowski to accuse several campaigns associated with Omar of paying for votes.

“When I first heard these allegations, I was skeptical.” Drazkowski said, “but the more that came out, the more troublingly credible it became.” Drazkowski then contacted law enforcement as well as Project Veritas, a media company that uncovers corruption through undercover investigations. “Clearly we needed hard evidence of voter fraud that we could not get by guessing about the red flags of massive voter turnout or the anecdotal testimonies from voters, and now Project Veritas has the evidence.”

Drazkowski indicated that the videos would be made public by Project Veritas this week.

The investigation centers around three consistent allegations from community members:

1. A complex, widespread ballot buying scheme exists with voters paid $100-$200/vote

2. A systematic absentee ballot harvesting organization disenfranchises voters

3. Irregularities at polling locations allow illegal ballots to be counted

“It is imperative that Attorney General Barr and Secretary of State Simon act now,” said Rep Drazkowski. “The integrity of our elections is the bedrock of our republic.”

Highlighting the need to act quickly, Drazkowski called on the Minnesota House and Senate to convene emergency committee hearings to “Immediately pause the counting and mailing of ballots until we can get to the bottom of this mess and assure Minnesotans that we can trust the results of the November elections.”

Drazkowski concluded by thanking those who bravely came forward to end corruption in their community, while issuing a warning to fraud deniers. “The other side of the political aisle is already saying that this is a partisan attack, but I can tell you that the majority of the people most directly harmed by this corruption are DFL voters and candidates, some of whom may have lost their races due to this brazen and sickening voter fraud.”

So you excuse the vote buying by the Democrats because it is happening in the wrong state.

Which state is the right state where buying votes by the Democrats should be tolerated?

Don't be dishonest Jerry.

There's a thread for the Minnesota story floating around here somewhere, but that story (whether or not it's true can be debated on that thread) has nothing to do with the OP of this thread, which is:

Felony charges have been filed against Jacob Wohl:

One count of election law – intimidating voters, a five-year felony;
One count of conspiracy to commit an election law violation, a five-year felony;
One count of using a computer to commit the crime of election law – intimidating voters, a seven-year felony; and
Using a computer to commit the crime of conspiracy, a seven-year felony.

If you want to derail the thread to talk about a different story, I'll keep reminding you what this thread is about.
