Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress on BEL

This is the show from Thursday August 28th, 2014

Summary:

* Too Strong for Tim Tebow: Here at Bob Enyart Live we really love Tim Tebow! (And we maintain perhaps the most complete online listing of his sports records and other records at kgov.com/tebow-records.) However, we also greatly appreciate the Dallas church that Tebow backed out of speaking at, because, ostensibly, their pastor was too blunt in his criticisms of homosexuals. Meet Dr. Robert Jeffress, senior pastor of First Baptist Church. Pastor Jeffress and Bob Enyart discuss America's promotion of the sin of homosexuality and the need for Christians to honor God by warning others about the devastation of such immorality.

* Christian Concert of the Year: Talent from NBC's The Voice TV show coming to Denver to sing at Colorado RTL's Be a Voice for Brady concert! Click here (or on the artwork) for tickets!

Perhaps Tebow had valid reason to back out. If my reading of Romans 1 is correct, homosexuality is symptomatic of a greater ailment, that of people refusing to acknowledge God as God and worshipping the creation rather than the Creator. A disproportionate focus on homosexuality in one's ministry might then be seen as akin to treating a cough in a patient with swine flu.

My 2 pence. Objections likely to follow.

:up:

Vile affections stem from idolatry.

Romans 1:20-28 KJV For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts," "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections": It's as if to say, “Fine. You know Who I am and yet, this is what you want. Then I’m turning you over to your ways. Have at it.”.

Read Exodus 32! Long story short: Moses went up to the mountain to commune with God and was gone too long and the people spoke to Aaron and wanted him to “make us gods” to worship. They changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man (golden calf) and then what did they do on the morrow? They rose up to play. Sounds a lot like what we see above in Romans.

Exodus 32:6 KJV And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

Idolatry!

A disproportionate focus on homosexuality in one's ministry might then be seen as akin to treating a cough in a patient with swine flu.
Especially, since God will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4-6 KJV).

2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Most who focus their time on this or that sin, rarely preach the good news if they know it at all.
