  • Nonfarm payrolls rose by 2.5 million in May and the unemployment rate fell to 13.3%.
  • Wall Street estimates had been for a decline of 8.3 million and a jobless level of 19.5%, which would have been the worst since the Great Depression era.
  • Much of the gain came from those classified as temporary layoffs due to the coronavirus-related economic shutdown.
  • Leisure and hospitality represented almost half the jobs gained.

I'm glad the economy appears to be recovering. You are aware, I hope, that the " the BIGGEST JOB INCREASE EVER!!" is a rebound from the horrible effects the pandemic and associated lockdown had on the US economy, and that the jobless rate is still 4 times what it was in January. If The Greatest President Ever can bring the US back to a 4% unemployment rate by November, without starting a major war or totally bankrupting the Treasury- who knows? Maybe he'll get reelected.

So, you're knocking Trump and claiming he is doing exactly what the Democrats have stood for for my entire life. It seems to me that's the height of irony.

And it is also a complete misrepresentation of the situation. Remember Trump's first year in office? The Democrat and Republican representatives and senators got together and not only ignored what Trump asked for they sent him a veto-proof majority spending bill that radically increased spending and the deficit. Then they sat back and congratulated themselves on their cooperation.

And what happened this year? The Democrat and Republican legislators used the coronavirus to massively increase spending. Trump at least said, you make sure the little guy get's a break and a bailout too. No other president has ever done that since constant deficit spending since the creation of the Fed and the the corruption of the Democrat party in Woodrow Wilson's days. They would always bail out those who were the main cause of the financial difficulties in the first place and do nothing for the common man.

The real cause of our financial issues is the FED with their Keynesian economics of creating a currency that is completely based upon debt that has no ties to a sound currency, and decades of government spending that has no basis in reality. Both parties are guilty of it. It's the swamp's reason for being as they stick their fingers into the revenue streams and vote on legislation for their own self-interest rather than the best interests of the nation on a long term basis. As a result our economy is bankrupt and our currency has no value and it was already like that when Trump took office. And the only person you want to blame for all this is Trump.

You display no understanding of reality.

The irony is that some Republicans admire a president who behaves economically the way Republicans claim Democrats do.

Oddly enough, among recent presidents, Clinton generated the least debt. By far.

Indeed. Trump is a 'yuuuge' embarrassment to the American evangelical community. Or at least he should be.

The credibility of evangelicals in the USA was shaky enough before Trump. However, with so many of them flocking to Mr. Trump's fear-fuelled "blame the other guy / other religion / other skin color for your problems" rhetoric, it is no wonder people worldwide are writing off American evangelicals.

Not to mention the porn star thing and the rest of Mr. Trump's dubious track record in the "groin" department.

A shameful time for American evangelicals. Correction: a time when they should feel shame but, sadly, they double-down - as we have seen and no doubt will continue to see in this very thread. Thus, they will no doubt be a laughingstock for generations to come. And rightly so.

Yes. And, frankly, I find it difficult to imagine how a Christian can support Mr. Trump. The only position that makes sense is to admit he is morally a dreadful person, but that his policies are effective. If that is your position, then we would have an entirely different discussion.

But to defend Mr. Trump's character seems entirely impossible from a Christian perspective.
