Is John 3:7 for today ?

RD responded to a post of mine replying to Dan P, talking about what Peter gave to Cornelius. Nothing I said was intended to say that we must do works of righteousness in order to be saved. That is the gospel of grace that applies to all men, Jew and Gentile. Peter gave that gospel to...

    Our Moral God

Are you saying that anytime the bible says "testimony", it is always talking about the exact same thing, the testimony of Jesus? Yes, I believe there is a connection between the "testimony of Jesus" and the ark of the covenant, as well as the contents of the ark. But that doesn't mean the law...

    Our Moral God

If the testimony of Jesus is "the spirit of prophecy", what exactly is "the testimony of Jesus"? Isn't it the same as "the word of Jesus"? Don't we have the words of Jesus written for us in the gospels and in Revelation, as well as in Acts, the letters of Paul, and the general epistles? That...

Maybe that's why the two witnesses in Revelation need fire to come out of their mouths to consume their foes.

Is John 3:7 for today ?

That's gotta be the absolute worst explanation of any gospel I've ever heard. Do you not even listen to Paul? [Rom 12:1 NKJV] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your reasonable service...

But they thought they did, Gary. That's my point. They were willing to take what they thought they knew about God and the law and put it on a higher level than what Jesus told them, than what the bible told them. I don't want to diminish any of your experiences, but no matter what you tell me...

Is John 3:7 for today ?

So what I think you're saying is that we are not to fear God or work righteousness? Is that part of the grace of God? You are saying that we are free to be like this: "lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural...

Is John 3:7 for today ?

Can you quote scripture that says "until God gave it to Paul"? I submit that it was hid until Paul's time, but obviously Peter was preaching the gospel to Cornelius. He certainly wasn't preaching your 'gospel of the kingdom' to him. And surely you don't think Peter was preaching Paul's gospel...

Is John 3:7 for today ?

Yes, but Peter didn't understand that the same message that he and the apostles were commissioned to speak to "the people" (Israel), he was now speaking to Cornelius, at God's direction. The same message. The same gospel. It was new that it was to go to the Gentiles, but it wasn't a new message.

Because they thought they knew God, and were not willing to hear when Jesus accused them of adding to God's law. I don't despise you, Gary. Truth of what? Your personal experience, which can't be verified by a second witness, or the Bible that is consistent over 66 books written over 1000...

Translation of what Gary is saying: "I know God better than the bible does. So ignore what the bible says and listen to me."

We're not talking about God's power, but His patience. Everyone else can see that you changed the subject because you've lost the argument. Can you?

    Our Moral God

I'm just saying that you have no biblical evidence for God's "infinite patience." But if that's what He had, then He would allow sin to continue for eternity. How else do you define "infinite patience"? Since both you and I reject the idea that God would let sin continue forever, then we BOTH...

    Our Moral God

So you are admitting that God either doesn't have infinite patience, or He at least doesn't exercise it, right? And you admit that the Bible never claims infinite patience as one of His attributes? Therefore you no longer believe God has always infinite patience?

    Our Moral God

How can you tell that God has infinite ability to control His emotions? Do you have a scripture to offer? If not, then isn't it a man-made idea? Here are some scriptures to counter the idea: [Gen 6:3 KJV] And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also [is] flesh...

    Our Moral God

Yes, that's what I was talking about...an inability. "Is God ABLE to deny Himself?" Paul tells us He CANNOT (defined as "unable" in most dictionaries). All of the translations that I looked up, save one, say "He cannot deny Himself". Cannot means "inability". Here's the one translation, Youngs...

    Our Moral God

I'm not sure that's in the definition, though I see why you would say it. But you seem to be admitting that "limitless" has its "limitations". This seems to illustrate what @Clete and @JudgeRightly are proposing...that God doesn't participate in those things that not good. The details of how...
