Why Was Canaan Cursed? ~Dominic Enyart

Why Was Canaan Cursed? (Genesis 9 Explained)
Why did Noah curse his grandson Canaan after getting off the ark? Was it just because someone saw him naked—or is there something much deeper going on in Genesis 9?

In this video, Dominic Enyart dives into one of the Bible’s most misunderstood and bizarre stories. You’ll learn:
-What “seeing the nakedness of his father” really means,
-How Hebrew figures of speech change the entire meaning,
-Why Canaan's birth was the result of incest—and how that explains centuries of conflict,
-The biblical, moral, and historical implications of this tragic account,
-How this story shaped the Jewish view of the Canaanites,
-Why understanding this story helps make Genesis a rational, historical book—not a myth.

This isn’t a strange tale about a drunk Noah and a misunderstood curse. It’s a clear and sobering look at sin, consequence, and the tragic fallout of rebellion. Ham saw Noah's nakedness. It has been suggested by people smarter than me that the term interpreted as 'saw the nakedness of his father' has been known to mean - had sex with his father's wife. Assuming that is correct ... Ham may have had an opportunity to have sex with his own mother while Noah was passed out. Maybe she was too. Just saying/wondering.

Canaan was a son of Ham. I sort of think that Noah's wife may have developed a pregnancy and bore Canaan. And Noah understood what his other sons had told him was true. ??? He COULD HAVE remembered enough to know he had not had sex with his wife.... just saying.

That still made Canaan a grandson of Noah, but it was Ham who brought on the curse because of what he originally did. Canaan grew up to become a bad person on his own as well. He and his descendants developed into their own Semitic speaking civilization ... Now why might it be that Canaan was considered his own civilization apart from Noah's family and hostile??? Hmmm.

Now, if I were to continue speculating I'd suggest: Canaan was an outcast since he was not a legitimate son of Noah. I figure there would have been lots of hard feelings and jealousy from him toward his uncles and cousins... Perhaps that is why his descendants became hostile toward the rest of the family. Noah cursed Canaan not God ... and said that Canaan would be subservient to the rest of the family.

Sort of like what happen when Sarah concocted the idea of Abram having a child by her handmaid. Yet, Abraham did not curse Isaac. Anyway family feuding began and has lasted for 1,000s of years. With Ishmael the LORD told his mother he would make a great nation of his descendants with kings and everything and that has happened. God was good to Ishmael... yet jealousy continues. Sigh.
