Russia is twice the size of the United States. So they would probably find it easier to wipe the United States off the face of the planet then we would to wipe Russia off the face of the planet. Logistically speaking.
A large proportion of Russia is above the permafrost line. So melting that with nukes would get Greta scowling and stamping her foot at the UN. And nobody wants that.
Also, wiping Russia off the face of the map would mean the deaths of 144 million Russian citizens. Men women children. Babies and the elderly.

I'm sure that Russia has it's share of those who were enamored with what "they" were going to do to protect Mother Russia from NATO. People who are still ensconced in their comfortable surroundings while others spilled their blood. I'd be willing to be that alot of them see things differently now that the future isn't so rosey red. I bet a lot of them don't think in terms of what WE are doing anymore. Now that everything sucks and it's obvious the eye of the world views them as evil...Now, it's what THEY are doing.

Don't you think it depends a lot on how insane we believe Putin and Xi are? If we are fairly certain Putin's going to protect against the prospect of accidentally sparking off WWIII, don't you think that informs our decision to support Ukraine? Would Xi work so hard to prevent accidentally starting WWIII? idk, maybe he's clueless about that particular prospect, and how it's much more than just not starting WWIII deliberately, but not starting it by accident also, that we need to be constantly aware of. Does Xi think about this? Apparently Putin does, or at least we have good intelligence which strongly supports it. Otherwise you have to handle the situation in Ukraine differently, right? Maybe you have to lie low and figure out how to assassinate the guy (and all his lieutenants, to be safe), if you're not sure how careful he's going to be to avoid even the accidental start of WWIII /Armageddon. Maybe that's what would have to happen with China, if they stupidly invaded the Republic of China, Taiwan. Lie low and assassinate. Who knows. Hopefully we don't have to find out the hard way.
