Democracy requires its citizens to have general agreement on the facts. Our country can no longer get there. Autocrats around the world have the advantage now because they control the "facts". We are stuck because we cannot get to any agreement on what the facts are. Con men can and easily take advantage of us now.

I think of this website as a microcosm of that and has been for lots of years. I see the same arguments going on for years and there is no agreement on the facts.

Sod, of course, will not agree. 😂

If we don't hang together as a country we will hang separately.

Hey! :sozo2:

I despair when I see people like my sister, who still believes that Derek Chauvin had his hand in his pocket :dizzy:

Pro-Trump disinformation efforts could tilt the entire election — if media outlets and tech companies let it happen
The reaction to a barrage of deceptively edited clips shows why Trump’s campaign has little incentive to tell the truth

With Trump’s potential reelection just weeks away, he and his supporters have ramped up disinformation efforts well aware that there’s no one willing to stop them.

Trump and his allies keep telling lies, and they will continue to do so as long as the benefits of lying outweigh the costs. It’s because of a deferential news media and timid social media companies that the cost of telling blatant lies remains so low. If the worst thing to come of a manipulated Twitter video is a tiny label applied to a tweet long after its engagement has already peaked, it makes perfect sense to continue to spread increasingly brazen false claims and deceptive footage in hopes of influencing voters’ actions.

Once you’ve hit 20,000 lies, what are a few more on the pile?

Trump or the GOP have posted multiple manipulated videos, and they're spread to hundreds of thousands - it's clear they can get away with it so they'll keep doing it.

And unfortunately there's that many who are gullible enough to lap up the likes of Q-Anon and the coronavirus being a hoax...

He has been a criminal his whole life and has been handsomely rewarded. His Dad taught him how. He easily blinds his base and controls the Republican Party who before the election said he was unfit and even now say those things only in private. They fear losing power and follow whichever way the wind is blowing. Lindsey Graham is the embodiment of that.

Until he is checked there is no reason to care about democracy or this country’s citizenry. They can all die as far as he is concerned.

Nero played the fiddle while Rome burned. Trump plays golf.

This president lives and breathes disinformation even in the simplest terms. He is a super spreader and must be voted out.

He's a narcissist, pure and simple. He contradicts himself so many times it's not even funny and especially not in a time of a global pandemic, one that he thoroughly mishandled and is on record for downplaying.
