The coronavirus scam

Don't you know? The coronavirus cures all other causes of death, and then turns around and kills those who catch it. By the numbers for this year though it's healing more people than it's killing. :D

What you and Dr. Demento aren't considering is that while overall deaths are down nationwide due to our response to the pandemic, the numbers of deaths in coronavirus hotspots around the country are much higher than normal.

I look forward to seeing at the end of the year the figures for cancer and heart disease

Why, what for? "Six months after the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Arizona, the disease is well on its way to becoming the third-leading cause of death in the state this year, following cancer and heart disease, according to state data."

I am reminded of how, just a couple of months ago, conservative pundits and members of the Trump administration were singing the praises of the governors of red states such as Texas and Florida for their lax response to the coronavirus. That sure hasn't aged well:

Now the Republican governor of the red state of Texas is singing a different tune: "...the only way to reduce the spread is by everyone continuing to do the best practices of wearing a mask, keeping your distance from others, staying at home if at all possible, using frequent hand sanitizing to make sure that you are reducing the spread of COVID-19."

Well well well...he must be in on the conspiracy!

Either that, or as with El Chumpo himself, the numbers can no longer be denied and action needs to be taken even if that means the proverbial egg on the face.

I've got to hand it to the governor. It is not easy to admit that you are wrong, and change how you think about a problem.

Especially knowing that you might be subjected to ridicule from a retarded twit from Britain

I'm hesitant to give credit as it's one thing to admit error, it's another when there's no real choice in the matter. Trump acknowledged that Covid-19 wasn't something that could be downplayed once the numbers escalated and finally declared a national emergency. Before that he was boasting about how the numbers were low and the virus was under control so he doesn't deserve credit for doing what should have been done to begin with but rather well deserved criticism.

Of course. Because 3% is the same as the worst case of .1%. And a number of places that are reaching herd immunity are less than .1%. And it looks like everywhere we are just about reaching the same percentage no matter what - lockdowns or mask mandates or social distancing or whatever. Are you sure you don't want to apologize for your fear mongering? That's a real scary thing to go around saying the 1918 pandemic has the same death toll.

And even worse, the average age of death being around 80 suggests that the DeSoto, MS county coroner was right that deaths are being overcounted .And even a supposed "debunk" of the coroner's claim makes his point for him:
MSDH data for his county shows those deaths still count as COVID-19 deaths, even if the virus wasn’t the primary cause.

So, the death toll is probably even less than .1%. And it's way way way less for people under the age of 65... you know, the vast majority of the work force and their families.

Mortality for COVID-19 appears higher than for influenza, especially seasonal influenza. While the true mortality of COVID-19 will take some time to fully understand, the data we have so far indicate that the crude mortality ratio (the number of reported deaths divided by the reported cases) is between 3-4%, the infection mortality rate (the number of reported deaths divided by the number of infections) will be lower. For seasonal influenza, mortality is usually well below 0.1%. However, mortality is to a large extent determined by access to and quality of health care.
