Denying Facts

There is a plague (excuse the expression) of fact-denying. On many controversial topics, we find that people on one side or the other deny facts, as a means of argument. This is not limited to COVID discussions (more on this later). For example:

Global warming. The Earth is in fact warming. It's measurable. There are numbers. It's known. One could argue that it is caused by human activity, or that it isn't, or that we should do something about it- or not. But numbers are numbers. So we do we find so many people insisting that the facts are 'wrong'?

COVID-19. It was handled poorly in some countries, states and or cities. Who's to blame? Well, that's a heavy political question. But why do we find so many claiming that the disease isn't dangerous, there are simple cures that are being 'squashed', people aren't really dying from it, numbers are false, lock-down is pointless? There are solid facts out there. Why deny the facts?

I'm reminded of our Flat Earth friends, who will insist that the sun doesn't set the way we see it, that you can't see further from a mountain than on a plain, that the stars don't move the way we see them move....

If you have a good argument- make it! Don't pretend reality is different than it is.

Please identify these people.

One of your problems, as you frequently showcase on TOL, is the fact that you are all wrapped up in your bad habit of asserting that non-facts are facts. Having decided to call non-facts, "facts", you then grumble and complain when those who are not dumb enough to agree with you refuse to call "facts", the nonsense and falsehood you like to call "facts".

You should stop being a shallow, self-righteous hypocrite, and start trying to use argumentation, rather than continue expecting people to just take your word for it that something you call "fact" is fact.

Would you deny that some people call things "facts" that you would refuse to call "facts"? Things that you would deny to be facts? So, it is pointless for you to go about charging people with "fact-denying", when they can simply turn it right back upon you, charging you with "fact-denying", just the same.

Tell me what we know about the warming or lack thereof of the Earth's interior - the core-mantle boundary, for example.

Oh, grow up already!

Why is it that you can never answer the objections I level against you, and instead, as here, you're forced to act like the snotty child you are by falsely accusing me of being childish?

It's measurable. There are numbers. It's known.

When you claim that something is "measurable", on what do you imagine you're basing your claim? Have you, personally, "measured" whatever you claim is "measurable", or are you just parroting someone else's claim that such and such is "measurable", and that they've "measured" it? It's hilarious that you've never been, and will never be, able to deal with such simple, elementary questions as these.

Oh, the irony. He is not forced to act as what seems to just come naturally to you. You are as immature as it gets on here and it's beyond tiresome. Grow the hell up and try debating like someone over the age of seven.

Anyone who claims that Covid-19 isn't dangerous is either stupefyingly ignorant or an utter moron or both depending. It's been handled badly in several countries including my own. No fan of the current measures in place in the UK. Global warming is also true but then so is the fact that the earth is rather older than ten thousand years...

Actually that is a pretty simple, elementary but ignorant question. If someone asked you where the Dow was today, how would you get an answer? There is a tropical storm brewing in the south Atlantic, does it pose a threat to the US? How would you determine that? How many covid cases today at your local hospital v a year ago? I'm sure you would run to your local hospital clipboard in hand?
Is the basis of your question your underlying distrust of "experts"?
