In a shocking, for Democrats and some posters here, a black Democrat state representative, Karen Whitsett, is publicly applauding Trump for literally saving her life when she was seriously ill with the corononavirus.

A Democrat state representative from Detroit, Michigan, has given credit to hydroxychloroquine and President Donald Trump for saving her life as she battled the deadly coronavirus.

Michigan state Rep. Karen Whitsett, who recently tested positive for COVID-19, said she began taking hydroxychloroquine once her doctor prescribed it to her on March 31 after she and her husband sought treatment on March 18 for an array of symptoms.

Whitsett said she experienced shortness of breath, swollen lymph nodes, and somewhat of a sinus infection. According to Whitsett, “It was less than two hours” when she started to feel relief.

The representative also said she was familiar with “the wonders” of hydroxychloroquine after an earlier battle with Lyme disease, but claims she would not have thought to ask for it if President Trump had not touted its benefits as a possible coronavirus treatment.

“It has a lot to do with the president … bringing it up,” Whitsett said. “He is the only person who has the power to make it a priority.”

Whitsett went on to say that she believes her husband, who works as an engineer at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, was exposed to the virus at work. Whitsett’s husband has not yet received the results of his coronavirus test.

“This is a very uncertain time,” Whitsett said. “As a lawmaker, I want to be sure, but I’m not always sure.”

“There have been pandemics before, so we do know that there will be an end to it,” she added.

The Michigan state representative also stated that people in Detroit are not taking the quarantine seriously. “I see it in my own community — not being quarantined and still having house parties,” Whitsett said.

Whitsett also credited Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan for his relationship with President Trump for helping to get Detroit what it needs to fight the virus more effectively.

President Trump highlighted Whitsett’s recovery Monday evening.
Congratulations to State Representative Karen Whitsett of Michigan. So glad you are getting better! https://t.co/v6z46rUDtg

It's a good thing to see honest gratitude expressed even though she is a Democrat and Trump is the Democrat's hated enemy. It makes her stand pretty tall to ignore her political party's position and speak out honestly and give credit where credit is due.

After Trump Hyped Chloroquine as a Covid-19 Cure, a Man Died Trying to Self-Medicate
MARCH 24, 2020

THREE TIMES LAST week, Donald Trump defied expert advice and touted anecdotal evidence that the anti-malaria drug chloroquine might cure Covid-19. “It’s been around for a long time,” the president said on Thursday, “so we know that if things don’t go as planned, it’s not going to kill anybody.”

On Sunday, a couple in Arizona who had heard the president describe the drug on television, and were afraid of dying from Covid-19, discovered that they had a non-medical version of the chemical chloroquine phosphate, used to clean fish tanks, among their pet supplies. Mistakenly believing that the chemical sold to pet owners, which is available online, was exactly the same as the anti-malaria drug prescribed for humans — it is not — the man, who was 68, and his wife, who was 61, tried to self-medicate by mixing one teaspoon of the bitter tasting chemical with soda and swallowing it.

Within 30 minutes, both fell ill and had to be rushed to a Phoenix-area hospital, where the man died and his wife remains under critical care.

Dr. Trump's medicine show: Why is he pushing an unproven drug? Follow the money
April 7, 2020

The top manufacturer of hydroxychloroquine is Novartis. Back in early 2017, soon after the inauguration, Novartis agreed to pay Michael Cohen, Trump's former attorney-slash-fixer, $100,000 per month for lobbying access to the new president. The cash payouts were sent to Cohen's shell company, Essential Consultants, which was also a reputed slush fund for Trump. You might recall that the president used Essential Consultants as an intermediary for alleged hush-money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Indeed, some of those checks were signed by Trump while in the White House.

And no, this isn't some kooky conspiracy to frame Trump. Novartis executives admitted to lobbying Trump with cash payments after they, along with AT&T and several others, were exposed publicly.

All told, Novartis paid Trump more than a million dollars during the year-long agreement, paid out through Cohen's dubious company. Novartis is one of the primary manufacturers of hydroxychloroquine. Two-plus-two equals "what do you have to lose?"

All this is just for starters. The question now is whether Trump has entered into another agreement with a different pharmaceutical corporation, or whether Trump is priming the pump for a renewal of the old one with Novartis. There might be another angle we haven't considered yet. It's difficult to tell at this point, but the history is there. The players, including Cohen and Novartis, have confessed publicly and apologized.

Trump is treating this drug like he's the national spokesman, paid on commission, yet to date there is no peer-reviewed evidence that hydroxychloroquine actually works against COVID-19. In fact, it could have serious side effects — contradicting Trump's whispery, "What do you have to lose?" pitch. Of course it's possible that Dr. Trump's snake oil might work for some patients. We simply don't know. But there's a lot to lose for those who might experience a series of horrendous side effects — taking the wrong medication for the wrong illness has a tendency to do that. Knowing all this, it's ludicrous that the U.S. government under Trump has already invested in 29 million pills, absent any clear information that they're useful against the current plague.

buried in your link and (predictably) ignored by you, is:
A spokesperson for the hospital that treated the couple said that she did not know where they got the incorrect idea that the chloroquine phosphate used to clean aquariums was safe for human consumption, but a New York Post headline that popped up on Google on Thursday read: “Fish tank additive could treat coronavirus, studies say.” The headline on the Post’s website still reads: “Sales of fish tank additive skyrocket after studies say it could treat coronavirus.”

The fact that you equate labeled liquid aquarium cleaner with a long time anti-malarial drug just shows your lack of thinking ability or your descent into even greater deceit than before. That these people were so stupid they drank labeled Koi fish tank cleaner.

And even after the hydroxychloroquine has proven very effective in curing everyone who has had it administered to them you're just going to keep on with the same lies.

And, you have not explained how Mueller and company failed to find any evidence of this asserted criminal activity by Donald Trump. You ignore it and keep on posting the same old crap from the mockingbird media. Try exercising your immense brain and do that for a change.

After Trump Hyped Chloroquine as a Covid-19 Cure, a Man Died Trying to Self-Medicate

Trump’s press conference statement about the possible benefit of the form of chloroquine prescribed by doctors for malaria “was on a lot,” the woman told Vaughn Hillyard of NBC News by phone from her hospital bed. “They kept saying that it was approved for other things and, you know, Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure.”

Where the hospital spokesperson thought they got the idea is not the issue, we have a first person account from the wife of the dead husband and she says they got the idea from the President, “They kept saying that it was approved for other things and, you know, Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure.”

I suspect that the "they" she referred to was were problem the guests in one of of several discussions about this topic on FOXNEWS, where the President was presumably introduced to the idea that "hydroxychloroquine" is the next wonder drug and a cure for COVID-19!

This elderly couple made the mistake putting their faith in this President and took his words at face value when he repeats "What do you have to lose?"

Presidents should be aware that not everybody in their viewing audience is a self-appointed "stable genius," but Trump doesn't learn from his past mistakes and he was back out there practicing medicine without a licence by promoting "hydroxychloroquine" at today's White House briefing!

Just because they were old and gullible doesn't mean they deserved to die!

And your solution to address the issue of stupid people is that no world leader should ever address his nation at above a kindergarten grade level. What a solution. Insult the intelligence of the entire rest of the country just because of 2 people out of 331 million people. Those two people, which are .0000006% of the population should control how the other .9999994% of the population should be treated.

You're a moron if you actually think that 6 tenmillionths of one percent of the population should control how the the rest of the people should be addressed. You have zero sense of proportion and no sense of reality whatsoever. Problem is you think you're a genius, just like those fools who drank fish pond cleaner thinking it was the equivalent of medicine designed for human being to take rather than clean out a fish pond.

Your desire to blame Trump for that is absolutely ludicrous.

I say if you're so stupid you think fish tank cleaner is medicine for humans you're not going to survive long anyway. You simply don't have the mental wherewithal to survive. And as you're an evolutionist you should know that the evolutionary law of the strongest surviving determines who will live and who will die. Ironic isn't it that you will abandon your beliefs at the drop of a hat when they get in the way of condemning Trump?

So where's your explanation of why the Mueller investigation found no evidence of Trump colluding with Novartia? They spent years going over everything he and all his friends have done for years and all they could manufacture were things that are going to be proven false, and many of them already have. So, be brave. Be a real man or woman and step up to the plate and explain this gaping hole in your reasoning. It's big enough to drive a semi through.

While you're at it let's see you disprove Whitsett's story. Show how she's lying about Trump being the one who saved her life. Come on. I double dare you. But I know why you're avoiding the actual story of this thread. It's true and you know it so you're doing everything you can to avoid it and change the subject. You're that transparent as you know you're efforts are a flat out failure. You're a failure as a troll as you just can't make the subject of the thread go away. :loser:

We can no longer allow folks to follow others around the forum mocking them and disrupting their threads. If you don't like the topic of a thread or do not like the person who started the thread ignore it! Move on to something you are interested in. Please be careful if you are teasing or having fun with another member because if we mistake that for mean-spirited mocking you will get an infraction and possibly a TOL ban.

Please folks... TOL needs to be a place where people feel comfortable making a point or exploring ideas. That's the fun part of a community forum. If they feel like they cannot explore ideas without being mocked they will go elsewhere and TOL will end up being 6 or 8 members preaKNIGHTching to their own choir.

Therefore... infractions will fly fast and furious for those who do not add to the conversation but simply mocking and troll the forum. From here on out folks need to show other members a level of respect when responding to one another. That doesn't mean you can't vehemently disagree but you must do so in a way where you are actually engaging in the debate and not simply trolling.
