Making Thanksgiving memories

I will be with all my children and grandchildren.
Twelve of us spending the weekend in a 3 bedroom, 1 bath, house.

But I am blessed to have loving, caring, neighbors that offer their homes for accommodations (their extra beds, and an additional bathroom to use).

We party at Thanksgiving.
We set up card games, dominoes, etc.
One game we really enjoy is Pictionary.
We get so competitive, and have tons of laughs with it!

We pay a dominoes game called Texas 42, with visitors at different times of the day and evening. No partying per se, just family togetherness - good times ahead.

We haven't decided whether or not to have Thanksgiving at my home or at my mother's house (the homes are in close proximity of one another).

Either way, I will be spending it with my mother, two kids, my two nephews and the youngest nephews family.

More than likely, I will do most of the cooking, clean up and then quickly make my escape after dinner.

Linen napkins with napkin rings.
Elegant tablecloth.
Large long stemmed goblets.
Dinner plates on colored plate holders.
Candles.

We don't set all the food on the table though.
We set most all the food on a long countertop.
Fill your plate, buffet style, and sit at the table.

We stand and hold hands as we pray before we fill our plates to eat.

We do a similar routine. I ask the children if there is anything special for which they are thankful? We are always thankful for our bounty, for our country and for our Lord!

Detroit is always the first game. No one ever cares about that game, and that's a good game for cooking and preparing the meal.

Nothing better, than finishing the meal, sitting down, having some pumpkin pie, and watching the Cowboys lose the second game.

We decided on steaks, baked potato, salad, french bread for Thanksgiving this year. Turkey or ham at Christmas.

This is a break from tradition as we always have Turkey and the fixin's like most folks. It won't be the same food but it's just as good. No leftovers though.

Man, there ain't nothing better than fresh hot bread smothered in butter!

We usually do the Mrs. Baird's dinner rolls, and freshly baked cheddar cheese bread like they make at Red Lobster.
