Ted Cruz was raised with a father who was bigoted and strict. I am not surprised at Cruz's tribalism, racism, nativism and fear of others.

If I had grown up with a father like that I would feel the same way.

The Koch brothers grew up with an authoritarian and abusive father. One of the brothers still carries the scar on his back when he was cut by a saber his father used to "discipline" him.

Understand where someone is coming from and you can connect with them on a human level.
