Canada has the benefit of not having a certain demographic we're saddled with - one that has a propensity for violence and mayhem, which tend to drastically reduce life expectancy

see: chicago

who's killing whom in chicago?

answer: blacks are killing blacks in chicago

that's a statement of truth that involves race

i don't believe there's any way to convince you (or the bananahead) that that doesn't automatically make it racist

because it doesn't have ghettos full of violent fatherless young black men

exactly - and windsor's population is 4.9% black

guess what detroit is?

82.7%

go ahead - bury your head in the sand

detroit isn't in west virginia :duh:

Following true "Trumpian" fashion, this has become just another example of "bait and switch" - when "ok doser" encounters a rebuttal that he is either unable or unwilling to address based on the facts, rather than admit defeat, he merely ignores it by changing the subject!

West Virginia is 93% "white," 3% "black" and yet ranks 49th in America for life expectancy (75.4 years) - so much for "ok doser'" assertion that black inner city crime is the determining factor to explain why the US currently ranks a lowly 45th in the world for life expectancy!

Next to Vermont (94%), West Virginia at 93% has the highest "white" population in the country and is primary rural without any large "black" inner cities!

It should also be noted that West Virginia has a lower % of "whites" (3%) than the Canadian city of Windsor (4.9%) - that is located less than a mile from Detroit and went 27 months without a homicide!

West Virginia's low life expectancy is likely due to a culture that does not encourage healthy habits. It also used to be dominated by the coal industry which is very bad for life expectancy. Add obesity and drug addiction to this mix and 49% is not at all surprising.

20 odd years of losing the coal jobs to environmental laws and regulations and a drop in industrialization means a significant drop in decent paying jobs. This also lowers life expectancy.

nah - i asked you for a cite to support the claim you made (the part i quoted) and you failed to give one

i never said racial violence was the only factor influencing longevity disparities

it certainly is a factor in the case of windsor and detroit

probably not so much in West virginia :idunno:

maybe Nunavut, too (71.8 years) - don't care enough to research it

As for rebutting ok dosers assertion that black violent crime drastically reduces life expectancy....there is this from Wikipedia.

"The combination of high infant mortality and deaths in young adulthood from accidents, epidemics, plagues, wars, and childbirth, particularly before modern medicine was widely available, significantly lowers LEB. But for those who survive early hazards, a life expectancy of 60 or 70 would not be uncommon. "

Deaths from "accidents" in young adulthood.....hmmmmmm...what could that possibly mean???

"Ok doser" was trying to "float" the idea that "certain demographic we're saddled with - one that has a propensity for violence and mayhem, which tend to drastically reduce life expectancy" - as the excuse for America currently ranking 45th in world life expectancy!

Given that West Virginia is 93% "white," only 3% "black," predominantly rural and devoid of large inner city "black" ghettoes and ranks 49th in terms of life expectancy - this refutes that assertion on every level!

Using the same level of logic one could also conclude that voting "Republican" is detrimental to a state's economic success and one's life expectancy!

it's certainly a contributing factor, probably a major factor

you talk about the longevity stats for the US as a whole

take a look at the expected lifespan of a black male born today:

"Enquiring minds" might wonder as to why this President is so concerned when NFL players kneel during the National Anthem while effectively ignoring the plight of millions of "black" US citizens who are condemned to premature deaths?

Could it be that he only intends is to be President to his core constituency, effectively turning his Administration's back on the majority of American citizens outside that select group?

He never said it was the main cause. It is however a significant part of the reason we are ranked 45th.

Death in young folks is part of how the people who publish the life expectancy stat calulate that stat. I don't know how much it is weighted in their equation but if weighted highly enough, the homicide rate among America's inner city blacks could account for a very high percentage in the 3 point difference between America and Canada. Even if we did not have that issue, our life expectancy would still be lower due to bad health choices like smoking and bad diet and sedentary living.

most of the countries with higher longevities don't have our problem with obesity, for instance
