Biden/Harris 2020

Live updates now have Biden at 290 - 214. BBC has it as 279 - 214. The main thing is he's won but that 306 figure is looking ever more likely given the figures.

World leaders have been calling to congratulate Biden, they're probably glad they're gonna have someone sane at the helm to deal with...

 :)

I think there's a really visceral, collective sigh of relief out there.

Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo spoke for many around the world when she tweeted with relief: "Welcome back America."

Well, not for everyone...

Putin loves how this is turning out.

Paris Treaty = higher gas and oil prices he can charge to Germany. No push-back on Germany's pipeline.

Biden will remove troops from Poland and return them to Germany so that Russia can apply more pressure to Poland and the Baltic states. He can keep on creeping in Georgia with no check.

He has actual leverage on Biden where he had none on Trump.

He can wait for the next "reset" button.

With no peace in the Middle East and Biden giving Iran more Billions, Putin will make a fortune in arms.

The belief that Putin is upset is delusional at best.

Unless Biden reacts in the opposite way of Obama, then Putin should look forward to pleasant sailing.

Putin's probably a bit more concerned about other personal issues at the moment and what "leverage" do you suppose he has on Biden exactly? Clarify, and please, with reputable sources, not wingnut ones.

Sure. He put all the effort into getting Trump elected, just to be silly. C'mon.

Biden means that the US will start enforcing the existing sanctions against Putin. You got it backwards.

Biden will remove troops from Poland

Show us that. What do you have?

and return them to Germany

Show us that.

He has actual leverage on Biden where he had none on Trump.

Ah, the PP tapes. Oh, wait...

With no peace in the Middle East and Biden giving Iran more Billions,

He never gave Iran billions once. You do realize that Obama forced Iran to stop enriching uranium by seizing their money, which he told them would be returned to them if they stopped, right?

The belief that Putin is upset is delusional at best.

The CIA has, from the 2016 election, tapes of Russian intelligence officials celebrating their accomplishment in getting Trump elected. So I'm pretty sure you have it backwards again.

🤣

You should stop watching CNN. It's causing your brain to rot.

What a joke. Biden will never bring unity to the US. All he will do is suppress all opinions he disagrees with. He will use big tech such as Google, Youtube, and Twitter as his agents for censure, just as the left has been doing all along. If you actually believe this tripe you're showing how far you have been divorced from reality.

In any other year, with any outgoing president other than the headline-hogging Donald Trump, this would be a piercing storyline. Even though polls seldom pointed to a different outcome, this victory stands as maybe the most remarkable twist of Biden’s long public arc—at once colossally improbable and profoundly apt.

It’s hard, after all, to imagine a Biden win in 2020 without a combination of two events that no oddsmaker could have predicted, even just a few years back—an outlier of an incumbent utterly committed to blowing up American politics to serve his own interests, and a pandemic that has left the country reeling and uncertain about its own health, economy, moral rudder and even its basic capacity for competence. And it happened that in the collision of those two unique sources of such angst, Biden’s focal qualities—a sense of nearly banal stability, a
powerful empathy forged by misfortune—were precisely what the situation at hand seemed to demand.
,,,
And while the persistent coronavirus crisis stripped him of the ability to employ his noted tactile, rope-line politicking skills, it elevated arguably his even better asset: In this year of sickness and death, in what already was such a difficult, divisive stretch, Biden’s broadly conciliatory, unassuming air and unfathomably hard-earned facility to feel other people’s pain proved to be not just a vivid point of contrast with his general election opponent but what a good portion of a rattled, wounded, weakened country wanted.

“It’s almost,” as a Buttigieg campaign higher-up put it when we talked a couple months ago, “like the seas have parted for him.”

“Here’s the deal. Anything can happen,” Biden
said on CNN in September. “I have seen too much of it in my family.”

And in this odd, unnerving and interminable week, facing the always disruptive Trump along with the prospect of an unsupportive Senate and the certainty of a riven nation—the good with the bad, like his mother always said—Biden won Wisconsin, and he won Michigan, and to clinch he won Pennsylvania, the state in which he was born, a poetic note to this latest turn of fate.
