Top Trump aides had opposed US decision to move embassy to Jerusalem: reports
08/12/2017

WASHINGTON: Top diplomatic and military aides to US President Donald Trump were opposed to the president’s decision of moving the US embassy in Tel Avis to Jerusalem due to security reasons, American media reports said, citing officials.

President Trump had recognised Jerusalem as the ‘political capital’ of Israel and had asked the officials to start the process of moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.

The decision has drawn widespread criticism from all over the world ...

According to media reports, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary James Mattis opposed President Trump’s decision, saying it would endanger American diplomats and troops deployed in the Middle East and other Muslim countries.

Apparently Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary James Mattis were among those advisors in the White House who the opposed decision to relocate the American Embassy in Jerusalem.

While the announcement may be praised by Israeli "hard-liners" and Trump's base, it alienates America's Moslem allies, increases the likelihood of terrorist attacks, undermines any hope of a peace negotiations and isolates the US in the world - at a time when she may need to rely on her "friends" for support!

So, because a couple of Trump's aides disagreed with him that is proof he was wrong? If that is true then no president should ever do anything unless 100% of his aides agree with him. That has never been the case in any preceeding administration for every decision a president has made. Presidents are there to lead. The buck stops with them, as Harry Truman said. Leaders lead. That's what they do. They listen to the arguments and then make up their own minds. Any leader who doesn't do that isn't fit to lead anything.

Governing by polling isn't governing at all.

Of course you don't need a consensus, but I haven't seen who actually supported this decision. Tillerson referred to various partners, etc. but I haven't seen any names. Who in the administration agreed?

I'm surprised you didn't mention Rex calling your President a moron. You usually do when you mention Rex.

Trump is the last person who believes that "The buck stops here" - when was the last time this "narcissist" took responsibility for a decision that wasn't a success?

During the "2016 Campaign "The Donald" promised to surround himself with "all the best people" - given his total lack of experience in foreign affairs, what is the purpose of having "all the best people" if you don't follow their advice?

I'm surprised you didn't mention Rex calling your President a moron. You usually do when you mention Rex.
It must have slipped my mind - but thanks for reminding me!
