Was it a sin offering?
I don't recall that...

Excellent question and no the pascha lamb was not a sin offering.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
(John 1:29 NKJV)

In what way did Jesus take away the sin of the world?

Jesus said, "For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." (Matthew 26:28 NKJV)

Paul explains, "For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross." (Colossians 1:20 NKJV)

And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. (Hebrews 9:15 NKJV)

The first covenant for the Hebrews was still in effect when this was written. Paul said it was obsolete and ready to vanish away, but it had not yet vanished.

In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. (Hebrews 8:13 NKJV)

Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel and all their transgressions concerning all their sins putting them on the head of the goat and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man. The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land, and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. (Leviticus 16:21-22 NKJV)

Our Scapegoat became sin and took sin to the ultimate uninhabited place - the grave.

This was done on the Day of Atonement and for atonement with God.

So what is the Passover all about?

The Passover in Egypt was not for sin, the blood of the lamb on the door posts was for the preservation of the firstborn. Without the blood the firstborn would have died.

The NT Passover is for the preservation of the firstborn. Without the blood the firstborn would have died.

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. (Hebrews 12:22-24 NKJV)

In the first covenant, blood was sprinkled on the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies.

Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, which is for the people, bring its blood inside the veil, do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bull and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and before the mercy seat. (Leviticus 16:15 NKJV)

Jesus' sacrifice was for the reconciliation (atonement) of all mankind, one sacrifice for all forever.

The Passover blood is for the preservation of the firstborn of whom Jesus was the first that he might have the preeminence.

And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18 NKJV)

By faith he (Moses) kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
(Hebrews 11:28 NKJV)

The NT Passover is for the firstborn.

The scapegoat (alive, not sacrificed) "took the sins away"

And when he has made an end of atoning for the Holy Place, the tabernacle of meeting, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat. (Leviticus 16:20 NKJV)

The first goat was sacrificed for the Holy Place, the tabernacle of meeting, and the altar. What does this have to do with us today?

The second goat took sin to an uninhabited place. No one killed the second goat just as no one actually killed Jesus.

No one took Jesus' life, he gave it.

If the question is what is a sin offering

If the question is what is a sin offering

if it is a question of what is a sin offering (if that be the question), maybe this article will help before doing a search of the Bible

Did Animal Sacrifices Remove Sin?

This article shows one view, maybe correct... and it references some important Bible passages.

I will post this in another thread that was already started that is about blood sacrifices, which is a much different approach to what we find in scripture.
