Jn 6:63

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

If each sentence of scripture is given due regard, more often than not we can find something spiritually instructive, for Paul wrote 2 Tim 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Now understand, when it comes to Salvation, and man having a right relationship with God, being in a lost state, in the flesh, theres nothing he can do, say or think, no obedience he can render, no good work he can perform, that can or will gain him acceptance with or please God. Its all useless, no profit at all, worthless. Rom 3:12

12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

The word unprofitable means worthless, its like spoiled sour milk, useless.

The prophet preached of old about mans righteousnesses in the flesh Isa 64:6

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

That includes our sincere efforts and obedience's in religion and good works. It includes our good morals and ethics, our moral conduct, our righteous acts of charity and benevolence. All this, performed in the flesh, as to being the basis or ground, in any shape or form, as to gaining salvation, favour, acceptance with God, its worthless, less than nothing before God. Attempting to render Gospel obedience while in the flesh, its spiritually unprofitable, a failure.

Understand this, they which are in the flesh[ corrupt nature] the unregenerate, cannot please God with any obedience and or faith Rom 8:8

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Heb 11:6

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The only way a person can render any acceptable obedience to God, to include Faith and repentance is once they have been born again, made alive to God by the New Birth Jn 3:3,8 its only then, he is no longer in the flesh, but in the Spirit because the Spirit dwelss in him Rom 8:9

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Christians/Believers are no longer in the flesh, even though they still have the flesh to contend with Rom 7 and Gal 5 !

Trusting in the arm of the flesh !

When man doesnt understand their spiritual deadness in the flesh, and yet reasons that they in a unregenerate spiritually dead state, they can still do something, render some kind of obedience, put forth some kind of effort, to please God and find acceptance with Him, that its nothing but trusting in the arm of the flesh. Read what Gods' word says about that. Jer 17:5

Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.

Prov 28:26

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

Lk 18:9

And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Phil 3:4

Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

Todays claim of salvation by the freewill of man, is but another symptom of the unregenerate trusting in the flesh to please God !

The flesh [unregenerate man] profits nothing. There is nothing in a way of obedience, or doing anything good, that can gain man acceptance with God or Salvation, all we can do is useless. The reason is because men in the flesh cant please God. In fact the True God isnt even known by man naturally, He must be revealed supernaturally. Jesus says Matt 11:27

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

Its Christs prerogative to reveal Himself and the Father to a person Jn 17:2-3

2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know[by revelation and personal experience] thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Man naturally in the flesh, know there is a God Rom 1:19-21, who of course is the True God, but natural creation isn't the same revelation of God that Christ gives in a Salvation experience, which makes known the true God in us . It is by this, man is made alive to the True God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Outside of this being made alive first, and therefore being only of the flesh birth, all is useless, vanity, the flesh profits nothing with God in the Spiritual realties of Salvation through Christ.

It is a constant battle of the heart and mind. "...for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth.." (Gen. 8:21).

"That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit" (Romans 8:4).

So true Brother, the unregenerate or spiritually lost, are prevented from even hearing the Gospel Prov. 20:12, because in a lost state the Gospel is hid from them 2 Cor. 4:3-4, and nothing they do by their own so-called free will pleases God Rom. 8:8. Hence their only hope is that God saves them out of that lost state by giving them His Spirit in New Birth, which includes Faith and Repentance.

Amen exactly !

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
