Eph 2:5

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)

What is Paul saying here to these Saints ? Hes telling them something God did for them and to them before they believed, and even while/when they were subjectively dead in sins !

Hes teaching that even in that active dead state [spiritually] they were quickened together with Christ.

Now as I studied this scripture one albert barnes said:

It does not mean that he quickened us when we were dead in sin, but that he loved us then, and made provision for our salvation.

But thats absolutely false and denial of what the verse specifically says, they had been quickned while and when dead n sin.

Now further study, Matthew Poole says of the verse:

Together with Christ; either:

1. God, in quickening Christ, hath also quickened us; Christ’s quickening, or receiving his life after death, being not only the type and exemplar of our spiritual enlivening or regeneration, but the cause of it, inasmuch as we are quickened, as meritoriously by his death, so effectively by his life: Christ, as having died and risen again, exerciseth that power the Father gave him of quickening whom he will, John 5:21. Or:

2. In Christ as our Head virtually, and by the power of his resurrection actually. Or:

3. By the same power whereby he raised up Christ from the dead, Ephesians 1:20. See the like expression, Colossians 2:13.

I would add 1 Pet 1:3

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

This being begotten again is because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ[Our Head] from the dead. This being begotten again denotes new spiritual life communicated !

The word begotten again is anagennaó and means:

I beget again, beget into a new life.

I believe this begetting again in 1 Pet 1:3 and the quickening of Eph 2:5 are one and the same !

This Life from the Elects quickening Head 1 Cor 15:45

45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.See Jn 5:21

Comes to those He died for, putting away their sins from before Gods Law and Justice, hence releasing them from death spiritual, sins consequence, granting them new Spiritual Life even while they're dead in sin, hence an act of pure Grace towards them ! This is to the Glory of Gods Grace in Christ !

Parts 1 and 2 Excellent !

Because all God's Elect [Sheep] were permanently Sanctified by Christ's death Heb. 10:10 as Surety Heb. 7:22 on their behalf, when the Great Shepherd of the Sheep was risen from the dead Heb. 13:20 they were quickened together with Him [In Him; Eph. 1:4] and already were in a Saved / Justified state by Grace Eph. 2:8 given them in Christ the Lamb before the world began 2 Tim. 1:9: A Great Benefit of God's Grace and His Mercy Rom. 9:23 !
