Focus on the Family Sides With Colorado Baker Refused to Bake 'God Hates Gays' Cake

The difference between this case and the gay wedding cake cases is discrimination based on the product requested and discrimination based on who the customer is.

Asking the business to write "God hates gays" on the cake is a specific request about the product. The business is perfectly within its rights to have standards on what kind of products it will and will not sell.

However, if we are talking about a completely incidental product, the scenario is different. If the business says it will sell a wedding cake to one couple but not the exact same wedding cake to another couple because they are a gay couple, then this is discrimination based on who the customer is. This is categorically different than the former scenario.

The first scenario should be acceptable in all cases. If this means that a business refuses to place a gay couple topper on the cake, then that is discrimination based on the kind of product. This is an acceptable form of discrimination as it is merely a refusal to sell a specific kind of product. If it refuses to sell a plain wedding cake to a gay couple merely because they are gay, while it will sell an identical cake to a heterosexual couple, then any anti-discrimination laws in effect should be enforced. Such laws are perfectly acceptable in my opinion as it discriminates based on the characteristics of the customer and not based on the characteristics of the product.

It's funny to see Christians accuse each other of lying.

It still doesn't change things.

The key difference is refusal to sell certain types of products (perfectly acceptable) vs. refusal to sell identical products to different people because you don't like who the person is, whether it be their religion, skin color, nationality, or sexual orientation (cities and states are perfectly within their right to implement laws prohibiting such behavior).

It is therefore perfectly acceptable for a cake shop to refuse to make a cake with a wedding topper featuring a same sex couple, and states and cities would be violating their rights to implement a law forcing them to do such.

Similarly, it is unacceptable discrimination if the shop refuses to sell a plain wedding cake to a same sex couple, identical in every way to the cakes it sells heterosexual couples, merely because the customer is going to have a same sex wedding. If cities and states want to implement laws prohibiting such, I see nothing wrong with that.

You cant read can you, the christian said that the pro gay bake shop made up that they asked for a God hates gays cake to begin with, and that what he asked for was a bible shaped cake with scripture about homosexuality.

It wouldnt be the first time that someone lied for a pro gay cause or where gays lie about discrimination for money or sympathy and then found false.

In other words, it's a he said she said case, and you just automatically believe the side you agree with is telling the truth and automatically believe the side you disagree with is lying. Your extreme bias is being exposed here.

So is yours, because you don't allow that gays and pro gay advocates lie about discrimination all the time and even make false police reports, etc..

False - I never said I knew which side was telling the truth once the new info came to light. You, however, did.

A believer that supports gay rights and would refuse to create a bible verse that points out sin? I dont think so. Or are you refering to being a univeralist, liberal "christian" who doesnt believe the bible?

She said she was a Christian. Is that not enough?

Um....you do realize the baker who claims the customer asked for "God hates gays" is a Christian, right?

Oh the irony.....:rotfl:

Why do these people keep targeting mom and pop bakeries to put out of business. If this idiot wanted to prove a point, he should use the king soopers bakery to do it.

All I've learned from this thread is that gays and christians hate small business.
