Barack, Bush & Belief

This is the show from Monday January 3rd, 2011.

BEST QUOTE OF THE SHOW:
Republicans are saying, "Look at this bad thing Obama's doing. He's agreeing that embryonic stem cell research can be conducted in America." That's what George W. Bush did. George W. Bush became the 1st president to not only allow embryonic stem cell research to continue, to not only not ban it, but fund it. He funded it. And if you ever heard differently, you were lied to.

SUMMARY:

* Bob Welcomes the New Year with a Plan: Bob Enyart talks about how fast time flies, about what he's praying for and planning for for 2011, and contrasts the religious statements of George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Also, Bob reminds the audience of his interview with noted author Paul Kengor, of God and George W. Bush, about the political motivation of the conversion of the former president.

* Finally, a Comprehensive Listing: You're Invited to check out ARTL's March for Life Finder!

* Correction re RNC Convention: Star Parker was told not to mention Jesus Christ, not in 2004 but at the 1996 Republican National Convention run by Bob Dole.

* Today's Resource: Have you browsed through our Science Department in the KGOV Store? Check out especially Walt Brown's
In the Beginning and Bob's interviews with this great scientist in Walt Brown Week! You'll also love Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez' Privileged Planet (clip), and Illustra Media's Unlocking the Mystery of Life You can consider our BEL Science Pack; Bob Enyart's Age of the Earth Debate; Bob's debate about Junk DNA with famous evolutionist Dr. Eugenie Scott; And the superb kids' radio programming, Jonathan Park: The Adventure Begins! And Bob strongly recommends that you subscribe to CMI's tremendous Creation magazine!

Bush vetoes embryonic stem cell funding

As he rejects such a bill for the second time, the president calls for study of tissue that would not `destroy human life.'

WriterWASHINGTON — President Bush on Wednesday vetoed legislation that would have allowed the use of federal funds to support embryonic stem cell research, the second consecutive year he has blocked such a bill.

Proponents say embryonic stem cells -- which can turn into cells for many different kinds of human tissue -- offer the best chance of treating or curing many debilitating or fatal diseases.

Lifting federal funding restrictions on embryonic-stem-cell studies will re-energize U.S. researchers and likely bring tens of millions of dollars to university labs. But researchers caution that it will still take years to determine whether the cells can be marshaled to treat diseases.

The president signed an executive order directing the National Institutes of Health to draft guidelines within 120 days for the conduct of embryonic-stem-cell research. The guidelines will address such issues as where embryos used for research come from and how consent must be obtained from those who donate them

Bush doesn't need any thing stretched to show how good he wasn't.

CBS/AP) President Barack Obama said Monday he is allowing federal taxpayer dollars to fund significantly broader research on embryonic stem cells because "medical miracles do not happen simply by accident," and promised his administration would make up for the ground lost under his predecessor.

Fulfilling a campaign promise, Mr. Obama signed an executive order expected to set in motion increased research that supporters believe could uncover cures for serious ailments from diabetes to paralysis.

Mr. Obama's action, before a packed East Room audience, reverses former President George W. Bush's policy on stem cell research by undoing a 2001 directive that banned federal funding for research into stem lines created after that date.

President Obama lifted the eight-year-old ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research yesterday, putting the weight of his office, he said, on the side of scientists who believe "these tiny cells may have the potential to help us understand, and possibly cure, some of our most devastating diseases."

He was bad enough on his own with out adding things that are a stretch.

I don't know what you are trying to convey here but trying to discredit Bush in order to make Obama look better really does mean anything... I know Bush did not allow embryonic-stem-cell research, and I know that Obama does allow it. But really that doesn't make one better then the other because neither one was saved nor follow what the Bible says about government.

Out of the 2 I think Bush was a little better as far as Christian values. That doesn't mean I'm a republican or think Bush was a wonderful president.

Just so you know all discoveries from stem cell research only came from the adult stem cells. They have had no progress in embryonic-stem-cell research at all.... Not to mention it kills innocent babies.
