National Football League and Kneeling During National Anthem

There is absolutely nothing that forbids the players of the NFL from exercising their right of freedom expression. But they should not not be able to be a political activist while at work, especially if that activism results in financial loss for the company.

That's at the heart of the debate. Rightly or wrongly it's had an effect upon his career.

What is you have a business and one of your employees becomes politically active on the job? And what if his political activism is resulting in driving away some of your customers? What are you to do? Simple! You fire the political activist.

That is what is happening in the NFL today. Some of the players think that they have a right to be politically active on the job and as a result they kneel during the National Anthem and those actions drive customers away. The fans would tolerate them kneeling as a protest before the anthem because that action does not pour contempt on the flag and what it stands for. But no, some of the players refuse to compromise and do the sensible thing but instead must do the very thing that shows disrespect for the flag.

If I were an owner I would tell my players that if they kneel during the National Anthem they are fired!
NFL owners may not be known as the most "enlightened" group in America, but even they can read the "writing on the wall!"

This President, for all intents and purposes, is on his way out and if the NFL wants to attract the next generation of fans they have to at least recognize the root causes that have resulted in their players kneeling during anthems!

Given this President referring to those who died in action as "suckers" and "losers," his disrespect for "Gold Star" families and public comments that the nation's military leaders had no regard for the lives of their men/women, Trump is "toxic" and the last person with whom the NFL would want to be associated!

Former Secretary of Defense Mattis, doesn't share that opinion - he considered Trump as the only President in his lifetime who was deliberately attempting to divide the nation, a threat to the Constitution and once told DNI Coats that they may be forced to take "Collective Action" against an "unfit" Trump!

This doesn't come from a congressional Democrat or member of BLM - Mattis is someone who had dedicated his life to the military, and was widely recognized as the most distinguished member of the President's Cabinet!

Mattis is bitter that Trump fired him because Mattis is one who is always looking for a war. Trump is stopping the USA's entry into wars all over the world because they accomplish nothing and only profits the Industrial-Military Complex.

Why does this President and his supporters end up "trashing" almost everyone who leaves the White House and/or the Cabinet - Mattis joins a long line of so-called "bitter," former appointees whom have incurred Trump's scorn?

Mattis didn't appoint himself as Secretary of Defense, so what does this say about this President who once boasted that he would only recruit and appoint the "BEST PEOPLE!"

Mattis continues to be a highly-respected national figure and universally considered to have been one of the "adults in the room," possessing the moral authority to bring some semblance of sanity to the White House!

But you want one that doesn't realize that airports didn't exist in 1775, deliberately downplayed Covid-19 and makes a constant clown of himself in public?

Let me ask you a question.

What motive would President Trump have for deliberately downplaying Covid-19?

That doesn't answer my question.

What motive would President Trump have for deliberately downplaying Covid-19?

Yes it does. He likes soldiers who don't get captured, who don't get killed in action, who don't come home maimed.

He doesn't like people who get sick, it makes him look bad. And it might affect the stock market, which also might make him look bad.

He doesn't actually care about the people who get sick.

Self serving political gain. He's on tape for downplaying Covid-19 and practically boasts about it. That's the "calibre" of the current president.

What possible political gain could Trump hope to profit from for deliberately downplaying Covid-19?

No one has had a good answer as to how Trump thought he could profit from deliberately downplaying Covid-19.

He said that the reason he downplayed it was so he would not cause a panic in the country and no one has given another reasonable reason why he downplayed it.

Some people just do not want to use their brain!
