Little Candle

What is it that is beyond my little place,
where this candle shines?
I have known no other than my little space.
Surrounded by a darkness I know nothing of.

What is out there in the black that scares me so?
I have tried to venture out, but fear will not let me go.

"What are you, and what do you want of me?" I shout.
Sinking lower and lower with fear.
"OH, PLEASE LITTLE FLAME, DON'T GO OUT!"
What am I doing here, and what keeps the blackness out?

I'm so afraid.
"IS THERE ANYONE THERE?"
Chills rush over me from the night.
"OH, LITTLE FLAME! WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME
HERE IN THE LIGHT?"

I live in madness, loneliness, and fear.
Whatever the blackness is, is it not also in here?
My light is burning very low.
Darkness is coming in on me now very slow.

"OH GO AWAY! GO AWAY! WHATEVER YOU ARE!"
"YOU CANNOT HURT ME AS LONG AS
I HAVE MY LITTLE FIRE."
Frantically I search from side to side,
as my light begins to dim,
and the darkness reaches in to me.
"NO! NO! PLEASE LITTLE LIGHT,
PROTECT ME FROM THIS MONSTEROUS SIGHT!"

Then a fear like death pressed over me,
as the darkness squeezed out my light.

Death is inevitable.
Fear is not.
The light within faces fear.
Evil may destroy my body but it cannot destroy my soul.
Blessings Paul.

Thank You! – And, - it’s as the Lost without the knowledge of the darkness. - It’s the darkness that brings the end of all things.
