When our homeland East Bengal was burning in long persisting communal riots, I knew even as a child that I am also responsible for it somehow. As spiritual heaven originated beings we intuitionally feel many other things like sex-shame, as animal compulsive sex is below our high spiritual dignity. We also feel anxiety for our soul’s future. We know deep in our conscience that we are responsible for the sufferings we receive, however we try to deny or rebel against it. Besides Christian scripture, Indian scripture also teaches that we have fallen from Heaven, where our souls were created. Though Jewish scripture ignored that, still there was that inborn knowledge in them that we fell from Heaven after burning it by war (Rev12,7-12 and Indian Puran). Otherwise no repentance is possible, solely based on this life-circumstance, where only a few people freely commit sins worthy of deep repentance.
So, John the Baptist preached repentance to make way for Christ the repentance of Heavenly Father for our suicidal rush to soul disintegrating hate-hell. John implied that Jews are responsible for their own terrible sufferings then and the worse coming soon. If they were not responsible but others, then call of repentance is foolishness. Majority Jews wrongly believed that not they but Romans and others were responsible for their troubles. So they tried to remove them and brought doom instead.
John the Baptist prescribed the way of correction-atonement by good works in clearing our sins. But he failed because of his misconception of sin as a positive thing. Without love-bond to Heavenly Father and his son we can’t repair our negative sin-disintegrity. Only love-bond can integrate us within to correct the negative disintegrity called sin. John didn’t present Father God and Son in the context of 1st and 2nd commandments. Christ canceled the massacring Jew god, who can’t be loved. He and Father are most loving and love-worthy. Only by loving them and neighbor we can regain the love-integrity we have lost in heaven.
Christ taught in prodigal son tale about the absolute love of Heavenly Father and that we fell from love-Heaven. His own assertion that he was in Heaven before being born here corroborates this fact too. If we are totally unlike him then following and becoming like him is impracticable. But he didn’t elaborate in this; otherwise rampant wrong speculations and interpretations about preexistence are sure to rise misleading many as in Buddhism. It is better to leave that on personal intuition and realization.
But in Heaven-fallen us the enshrined pride-devil resists repentance. So called Christians are no exceptions. To be popular Christian churches down played repentance by denying our Heavenly origin. Their theory that we inherited it from the first family is putting the responsibility of our sinful nature on God. Then He is responsible for making us in wrong mould.
Catholics presented a terrible hell-sending god inherited from the Persians, antithesis of Christ’s Heavenly father. This worse than devil god can’t be loved but one can feel awed at most. Real repentance comes only by love, never by terror or awe. Only after touching the love of God, the central unity, after being purified by terrible pain, one comes to true repentance instead of blaming others futilely.
