ECT Turkey is the king of the north

In the book of Daniel chapter 11 and verse 6, we are introduced to the king of the north. Upon Alexander's death, his kingdom was divided to the four winds of heaven. Among the four successors, the kingdom or king of the north occupied the northern division. "And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king. Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power." Daniel 8:21,22. Palestine is the point of reference of these kingdoms. Thrace, which lies to the north of Palestine, went to Lysimachus. At this time Thrace included Asia Minor and the countries lying on the Bosphorus and Hellespont. This territory is occupied by modern day Turkey.

So what peoples to the north and east get destroyed?

Dan 11:44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
Dan 11:45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

The prophecy said, "...tidings out of the east and out of the north and east shall trouble him...", Daniel 11:44. That part of the prophecy had been fulfilled. The power to the north of Turkey is Russia while that to the east is Iran. These two powers provoked the Sultan and this resulted in the Crimean war of 1853-56. The prophecy continued, "he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many." That was the manner in which Turkey engaged her powerful northern neighbor- "fighting like devils" - see Uriah Smith's 'Daniel and the Revelation'.
The prophecy of chapter 11:45 is yet future, but it cannot be too far away now.

It seems all of the same time to me--

Dan 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
Dan 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
Dan 11:42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
Dan 11:43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

The bible does not have a prognostication of a bunch of modern wars and events in specific detail!!! It is no where in the plain language passages on the 2nd coming: I cor 15, Rom 2, Heb 9, Acts 17, 2 Pet 3, 2 Tim 4, I Jn 2 and 4, etc. Deal with it.

Daniel 11 has been seen to be a scenario of events in the conflict between the king of the north and the king of the south. These scenarios repeat through history since the time of the struggle between the dynasties of the Greek Seleucids and the Ptolemies.

At present the King of the North would be the northern industrialized nations who are under usury banking, and the king of the south would be Islam. It would be interesting to see if Daniel 11 has anything on a scenario in which the king of the north uses Islam -Isis - as a proxy army to tear down the culture and institutions of the Christian West. Brexit, the election of Trump and the recent vote in Italy to curtail the EU are parts of a possible scenario in this conflict.

The Bible is not a prognostication of specific modern events. It has some specific about intertestament events. Everything that fulfills the role of prophecy happens by the time of Christ and in Christ. Daniel is one of the main reasons the early church thought the 2nd coming would happen right after the destruction of the city and sanctuary of Dan 9.

We need a basis if we are to have any consistency in understanding who the king of the north and south are. This is the basis, these kings are located with reference to Palestine. They arose when Alexander died and his kingdom was split to the four winds between his four generals. The king of the north is Thrace and all succeeding powers geographically located there ever since. At this time Turkey is the king of the north while Egypt is the king of the south as he has ever been.
