The Good that Child Protective Services Does

The individually State run government bureau known in most States as CPS gets bad publicity in a lot of cases, usually by those who have a personal bone to pick with government agencies such as CPS.

Here's information on the Child Protective Services in Washington State.

https://www.dshs.wa.gov/sites/default/files/SESA/publications/documents/22-484.pdf

Unfortunately in this day and age of broken homes due to frequent drug use, alcoholism and sex trafficking, CPS is a much needed government organization.

Those who disagree are more than welcome to provide evidence to the contrary.

The biggest problem I see with CPS is that states often spend so little to fund them that caseworkers are heavily overloaded. And that leads to kids getting overlooked, often until it's too late. And the overwork means that capable and experienced workers tend to burn out and leave. Often, a case worker is inexperienced. I think most of the abuses attributed to the system are due to inadequately trained people, being asked to handle loads that would challenge an experienced case worker.

At least in Texas, the cases I've seen usually occurred when case workers and even supervisors ignored the agency's own rules and/or state or federal laws.

Until that's solved, there will be children needlessly at risk, and often parents who are punished in violation of the law.

Growing Abuse of Parents’ Rights

When a serious crime is committed against a child by his or her parents, of course it is right to remove that parent’s access to the child. The way society is currently organized, that responsibility falls to the government.

But in the United States, you are innocent until proven guilty. If you have committed a crime, you are afforded due process.

If the crime is serious enough, yes, you can be held in prison pending trial. Obviously, this removes your access to the victim. But accused criminals still have rights. Due process means going through various channels to make sure the government has a legitimate reason to search your home, arrest you, charge you, and sentence you if you are convicted.

Yet a father was told by Child Protective Services in Mississippi that they did not need a warrant to search his home.

His nightmare began when a Mississippi social worker, Kyra Reed (who also goes by Kyra Carson), knocked on his door demanding entrance without a warrant. Chambers was never told what the charges were. “She didn’t tell me what I was accused of and demanded to interview my 6-year-old daughter without my presence,” Chambers told PJM. “I told her that was unacceptable, but she was more than welcome to talk to her with me there without me interfering. She seemed perturbed, but accepted that. She then told me she wanted to search my house,” said Chambers. “I told her I had no problem with that, but wanted her to get a court order or a warrant as I am a bit of a constitutionalist and would just feel better having that respected. She was immediately angry. She hopped in her car without another word and drove off.”

The CPS agent then showed up with two sheriff’s deputies who were apparently meant to intimidate Michael Chambers into abandoning his rights. However he once again politely asked to see the warrant, which did not exist. The Sheriffs said they would not illegally search the home and the three left.

For this, the state retaliated.

According to Chambers, “She [Kyra Reed] told me that if I made her get a warrant, she would take my child instead.” Reed left again, unable to obtain illegal entry. But she didn’t stay away. “She returned with another sheriff’s deputy,” said Chambers. “I answered the door thinking that surely she would have [the warrant] this time and hopefully, we could just get this done and over with. I was instead handed a subpoena to appear in court in the morning and was told that they had taken my child from school.” No warrant was ever obtained.

PJM reached out to the sheriff of Warren County and was told that no warrant is necessary for CPS to take a child, but they would need a warrant to search a private home.

No warrant needed to take a child from a parent!

No charges. All the state had were calls from his apparently crazy ex who used their child as a thumb screw. He was not even told what crime he was suspected of until his child had already been taken.
The state appears to have invented an incident as justification for the kidnapping. They said Chambers went to his daughter’s school and caused a scene yelling, “I love Hitler!”

The school could produce no evidence of this, however–no videos, no recording, no witnesses. The school also gave false information when freedom of information requests were filed about the alleged incident.

The Sheriff wrote and signed a letter that he found no reports where Michael Chambers was ever named as a suspect, witness, or complainant at the elementary school. CPS appears to have made the incident up.

However, even in the unlikely event that the incident happened, this is still not just cause to take a child without due process.

[Judge] John Price, dismissed all charges of abuse and neglect against Michael Chambers in a subsequent hearing but placed Bell with her mother, whom she has not seen in four years, with no explanation or investigation into her suitability as a parent. Lawyers involved in the case said they had never seen any action like it and that the judge’s order might even be illegal.

Even worse is that Chambers daughter told him she was abused by other children while in foster care. And as you will see below, this too is unfortunately not uncommon.

Makes my blood boil

If that makes your blood boil what about a 4 year old taken from her parents, put in a foster home run by a guy convicted of having sex with a young boy while in the army, and at the time the little girl was placed in his foster home was running a child pornography ring and a child sex trafficking ring out of it. When the child pimp is finally busted by the FBI does CPS give the child back to her parents who were never even charged with abuse but had their child taken away over an argument between the two of them when their was daughter not at home. No, CPS adopts the child out to a woman who CPS was told was an alcoholic with a violent temper, who after a short time of having the child placed in her care burned her over 80% of her body by holding her under scalding hot water. The little girl's internal organs have shut down due to the trauma and she has lost all her toes from this satanic cruelty.

Did CPS then give the girl back to her parents? No. They terminated all parental rights because the parents were "uncooperative". How were they uncooperative? They wanted their daughter back and were angry because of all that had happened to her under CPS's auspices. So, this little girl was raped and then basically burned to death while under CPS's care, and she had never been abused while living with her parents.

This story is in the thread I posted on how CPS is a criminal organization.

Oh, yeah, I saw that - had read about it before - CPS does not deserve the protection it enjoys - any non- government entity providing this service would be held accountable for their malpractice.

If it was my kids, heads would roll. Literally.

Btw - I'm rarely on my laptop nowadays - any contributions are laboriously pecked out on my handheld.

Cutting and pasting, and anything but the most rudimentary formatting is an exercise in futility

The damage that CPS does far outweighs any good that they do.

I've seen the horror stories from the thread ffreeloader started and a couple in this thread that he and drbrumley posted.

Please back up those allegations with something other than the equivalent to an Alex Jones Infowars/Lew Rockwell-government hating website, like official documentation (police records, etc.) from the respective State that these alleged CPS atrocities occurred in.

This is how debate works: You say "CPS bad!", then you back it up with legitimate documentation. Start with the respective State's Attorney General's Office, they'll have documentation on these allegations.

Hmmmm..... You couldn't have spent even a minute trying to find anything on your own or you would know the answer. Seems like every time you speak you reveal your ignorance of the subject matter. All cases of juvenile neglect, abuse, etc... are not public records. You can't even go into a juvenile court and just listen to cases being fought in court. So, no one is ever going to give you access to court proceedings, investigation records, etc.... The juvenile "justice" system is one big black box and that black box protects government orgs from having their misdeeds in court revealed. And, any info that some org like CPS has is also considered private for the "protection" of the "children". CPS is given carte blanche to do whatever they want.

Also remember how much money is involved in this racket. There is more money involved in human trafficking than there is in illegal arms sales and illegal drug sales combined. That means there is a lot of payola involved in this. Many judges who sit on these cases have financial ties to the institutions in which they place the kids. Then remember just how much money is involved per child. The executive director of NSC says the state/federal money involved per child quite often reaches a million dollars a year. That's big bucks and encourages corruption in the system.

In order to do a thorough investigation into alleged CPS abuse claims, I would have to access the respective State's Attorney General's Office to read up on the case. I would need names, specific dates and even CPS/police case #'s. That would take more than a minute. But then, I'm not the one making these claims, so the burden of proof isn't on me.

I'll be back later with cases that the CPS deals with, you know, cases that were brought about by "victimless crimes" such as drug and alcohol use and abuse.

Yeah, be sure to include cases where CPS places little girls in the custody of violent alcoholics who burn them over 80% of their body. The fact that your accusation about "victimless crimes" includes me is once again despicable. I am not a libertarian and know well from personal experience what kinds of abuse alcoholics do to their kids. I would never say that drug and alcohol abuse are victimless crimes. They are not. The victims of alcohol and drug abuse are so common it's impossible to walk down the street and not see some of them.

Agreed. I have been thinking that for a while now.

What I have found throughout my life time, and what many psychologists/psychiatrists tell us, is that those who defend abusers are most likely abusers themselves. They are drawn into defending the indefensible like a moth to a flame.
