The Muslim tradition of female genital mutilation (FGM) is plaguing Western countries at an alarming rate. However, as appalling as it is that anyone could butcher a child’s genitals, what the overseeing nurse told the little girl during the sickening procedure is even more stomach-churning. On Thursday, the Australian Supreme Court found a Muslim mother and retired nurse guilty of FGM performed on two sisters between 2009 and 2012 in Wollongong and New South Wales when the children were 7 years old, the BBC reports. Upon hearing the details of the case, the jury was shocked at the sadistic measures that the nurse, 72, and family members took to ensure the children would remain calm during the mutilation. The nurse, who was referred to as KM for some politically correct attempt to protect the criminal, reportedly told one of the girls to imagine that she was a “princess in a garden” as the gruesome procedure was carried out, according to The Guardian. The mother, 38, held each of the girls down while the shameless nurse performed the “khatna” ceremony, which is meant to render females unable of experiencing any pleasure during intercourse. The girls’ grandmother stood in the room and recited prayers from the Quran during the horrific ceremony. 
In each case, the girls were told to lie naked from the waist down on a bed and close their eyes while the nurse produced a silver blade. The mother and nurse each face seven years in prison. “She’s [KM] a senior member of the Dawoodi Bohra community and has a great network in respect to that community, there is a network of orthodox followers who fully support of FGM and the fact she has been convicted only enhances [that] they would do anything to protect her and assist her in fleeing,” detective sergeant Eugene Stek said. Although neither of the girls have a visible scar, they are left with the constant reminder that their existence is worth less than a man’s. Not only will these girls never experience sexual pleasure in their future relationships, intercourse is likely to be uncomfortable or painful due to the unnatural procedure. Female genital mutilation is not only another way for Muslim men to control women, but a procedure that encourages the victims to in turn victimize their own daughters. The fact that this mother could force her own children to endure this shows the real danger that Islam is. Islam has its own set of laws, which require followers to obey above all others. This explains the blatant disregard for Australian law. Islam cannot coexist with any other man-made law because Islamic Sharia law is too often in direct opposition to it. In the event that the law of the land disagrees with Sharia, Muslims must break the law to follow their own. The more we import followers of this religion and its corresponding law, the more we should expect to see it implemented, overthrowing our own democracy. If Muslims feel comfortable as a small minority performing this sadistic act on young girls, imagine the damage when they reach a large minority or even the majority. |
