Gun control made England the most violent country in Europe.

In 2009, twelve years after the Firearms Act of 1997 was passed, Daily Mail Online reported that Britain was “the most violent country in Europe.” They also reported that Britain’s home figures showed “the UK [had] a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and South Africa.”

IIRC Switzerland, where everyone is a gunowner, has the lowest crime rate in Europe.

Gun ownership in Switzerland is quite different than in America. In Switzerland every adult male age 18-30 is required to take three months of military training. After the completion of this training they are issued an assault rifle or a 9mm pistol. This weapon is for national defense only. The ammo for these weapons isn't even kept in their homes, The ammo is centally located. These government issued weapons are NOT for home defense or recreatinal shooting.

Private gun ownership in Switzrland is very strict. Before a person can purchase a gun they must acquire a weapons acquisition permit. Every sales transaction must be documented with a sales contract. Every gun buyer has their background checked. Even in private sales the seller must confirm the buyer's name and age through a government registry.

Sounds to me like a pretty wise and credible way to run a country.

Of course, you folks who comment on this post need to start forming a line if you decide to say something silly like "You hate America and want to be a socialist, foreign country!"

It's a normal defensive reaction to those who are fearful and defensive in the world today.

But it is really sort of silly and not thought out.

The fact is that what is officially defined as violent crime is very different between the UK and US, not that accuracy and contextual relevance will be allowed to get in the way of a convenient looking statistic for gun lobbyists.
By this standard of logic we should also be able to conclude that global warming is directly linked to the declining number of pirates in the past 130 years, more pirates would of course therefore mean less global warming, right? :plain:

That sounds like the sort of logic and rationality that is taking America down, in my opinion.

So because a phenomenon is seen as singularly responsible for another phenomenon, that means that fiddling around with that second phenomenon will do away with the first one?

We need to get up to speed and start recognizing that the old ways of dealing with global problems is bankrupt and can no longer be effective.

No more is it simply "A" causes "B." It's A, B, C, D have a bearing on X, Y and Z. And the underlying truth I am trying to express is more complicated. More complicated than we can ever imagine.
