Millennials certainly have not fulfilled the predictions of those who studied them and predicted their rising (Howe and Strauss, Millennials Rising c 2000, Vintage Books).

They predicted them to be the next great generation, full of heroism and bringing back traditional values. Meh, 15 years later we can see that they have done nothing of the kind.....

I think the fat lady has yet to sing on this one?

have you ever heard of this book? "Slouching Towards Gomorrah"

Have you ever heard any theory on generations which espouses the notion, where all those born after 1922 are part of a modern generation. a paradigm shift, where those who fought in WWI saw the devastation of European war and this shook them/ ( see T. S. Elloit; "The Waste Land"), to where they lost the assurance of absolute morality. thus may have lived like their forefathers, yet had a nervous tension. When their doom went to WWII, they had not the same return to tradition, and this led up to what Bork is talking about?

“Coolidge was the most internally consistent and single-minded of American presidents.” He approached economy in government with truly moral fervor, declaring, “I favor the policy of economy not because I wish to save money, but because I wish to save people.”
http://dailysignal.com/2015/06/15/w...heroes-this-author-picked-14-from-us-history/

To Coolidge, it was absolutely immoral for the government to take one penny more from the taxpayer than was absolutely necessary to maintain law and order and provide the most basic services of government. He was relentless in saving taxpayers’ hard-earned money, and equally determined to reduce taxes.

Coolidge was president in 1924. hardly one born after 1922? He held to absolute values.

Those who fought in WWI, such devastation, such loss of humanity. It gave them pause, 'perhaps we are not?". Then there is not absolute Right and Wrong, the father may live like his father, yet is only pretty sure which way is right. he is not absolutely sure. Now his children see this internal nervousness, this uncertainty and they feel unsure. When WWII comes along, many do not return to the rural life, thus begins the 'Lonely Crowd" ; of existential tension, lack of pertinence, and this nuclear family structure ( actually short in duration) leads to a generation of rebels, or those opposed to their own culture, as Bork sees it, the counterculture. A generation of guilty and self-hatred, one who wishes to sacrifice himself for his own sense of superiority.

His religion has no soul, he worships the personal as political; he seeks somnolence in his own sense of order. He believes he shall save himself by seeking moral justice for his own sines, his racism, sexism, his unconscious sense of the right and good. He seeks to debase himself, to embrace homosexuality, to tolerate any self sacrifice, all in the hope he may retain what his forefathers had so readily available, though faith in God.

He wonder how the forefather could be so wrong, in there ways of war and civil injustice, yet he fails to see how God alone is perfection. He strives to be perfect, to reinvent himself. In his doing he debases himself, destroys himself, and when his children finally see this clearly, they shall rebel against him, and all he stands for!

This has no absolute, it lacks the transcendental element of those in faith, who worship the Right in God. This constant strain may eventually lead to a new awakening, a return to the absolute truth, only from God.

Seems like after the wars Christians either got serious with the Lord or fell away

Ah, Bork. His concern seems to be that we can't afford freedom, because people might misuse it. His big idea is that our liberties should be at the consent of a supermajority of Congress, which he thinks should be able to overrule the Supreme Court when it defends the rights of bad people. Precisely what the founders warned us against.

His second idea is that equal rights for minorities and increasing tolerance of American for other people is a sign of decadence. No doubt he'd see our declining rates of violence in the same light.

Thank God, he didn't get confirmed.
