Why the left has no real answers and lives in denial of reality

This interview of Jordan Peterson is extremely interesting. He is by no means a Christian, but he did a series of lectures on Genesis and it's relationship to humanity. He uses the principles taught in Genesis to show Biblical principles are the foundation of a successful life in the here and now.

Much besides this small portion of his lectures on Genesis is covered in this interview and it's all strictly anti socialist in nature. I expect to see a whole lot of bluster that Peterson in talking nonsense and just full of hot air. I would be much more interested to see someone who opposes his point of view tear his ideas apart and show them to be false. You know, an actual argument rather than ad hominen attacks and just plain old bluster. If I see no real arguments I'll know that there are no real arguments against what he has to say other than ideological objections.

Or that nobody is going to waste 45 minutes listening to this, and untold further time debunking his arguments. Or maybe the people who you call "left" aren't actually all socialists, and actually may agree with what this gentleman is saying.

Oh..... well that's alright then...... even if he doesn't believe in creation, eh? So long as he's right-wing? I mean, if he happened to be a left leaning doctor you might describe him as satan's spawn? :chuckle:

He gave a very interesting reply to questions about religion:-
In a 2017 interview, Peterson was asked if he was a Christian; he responded, "I suppose the most straight-forward answer to that is yes". When asked if he believes in God, Peterson responded: "I think the proper response to that is No, but I'm afraid He might exist".

No ad homs? What? Nearly every thing that you challenge is via ad hominem....... folks are often wrong because they are fools, or idiots or whatever. You're the Ad Hom hawker!

Now the Heritage Foundation ...... :-
Heritage Foundation (Washington, D.C.) United States. - Heritage Foundation (Washington, D.C.) A conservative think tank promoting public policy research and analysis based on free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

Ah! So that's why you like both it and the doctor. All you want to pay for is cops and cannons, eh?
Anybody who believes in children's free medicine, education, subsistence and welfare, or family support, or unemployment protection, or care in the community, or medicare for all, or social services, and more......... is a wicked commie? Or are they all Nazis? Or Fascists......? Or evil?

Make your mind up time!! :chuckle:

So, you can't wait to prove me correct when I call you an idiot: uneducated, ill-informed, and ignorant.

So it's a waste of time to spend less than an hour to learn, then spend a few hours to ponder and cogitate on what you learned, and then either figure out how to debunk a very intelligent man's ideas or come to realize that he makes a whole lot of sense and agree with him.. And you wonder why I say you're ill-informed, ignorant, and uneducated? Your lack of curiosity is telling. Every really intelligent person I know of, including Peterson, has a high degree of curiosity. That's why he has such a depth and breadth of knowledge. And that lack on your part is the reason you don't. You're so arrogant you despise learning and yet think that makes your opinion very important and that people ought to just accept your assertions.

The depth of thought that Peterson displays is remarkable. His curiosity is even more remarkable. As someone who doesn't believe in God he's still willing to spend many hours in reading and pondering on the Bible to get to understand it. Obviously he has a much different set of priorities than you do. He thinks learning is worth his valuable time to spend doing it. And many people find his ideas worth spending quite a bit of money to go listen to him, and thank him for the opportunity to pay him to listen to him. Wow. What a novel idea. They actually want to learn. They are just the opposite of you.

LOL. Your opinions are so uninformed with fact it's remarkable.

For your information Peterson says he is not conservative. All he looks at is what works. And he is anti-socialist because he finds socialist ideas are not based in reality and even worse are very destructive to society. I often quote people who are not Christians, or were not. It's because they have put a lot of thought into what they write and they have come to understand the wisdom of Christian ideas. You know, just the opposite of what you do.

If you've never noticed, I quote from Friedrich Hayek a lot. He was an evolutionist. But, he also came to understand and promote Biblical principles in his philosophical writings.

I didn't know Peterson had done a lecture series on Genesis until a few weeks ago. As I have listened to his his viewpoints on Genesis I have come to believe he is well on his way to becoming a Christian and he will be staunch creationist when he becomes one. The truths he has found in Genesis will lead to his becoming a Christian. The second reason I say that is because he has said repeatedly that he thinks "a lot" about those concepts he found in Genesis. That is evidence that the Holy Spirit is working upon his heart, and it shows his love of truth and detestation for falsehood, That kind of person will become a Christian because of their love of truth.

I have a lot of respect for those who have the curiosity and openness of mind to investigate issues honestly. I have very little respect for those who act just the opposite.

As to the rest of your post? So what if the Heritage foundation agrees with free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense? I agree with all those principles because the major reason the entity of the US was created was to place those values inside the government. And national defense, the military security of the nation, was clearly defined as one of the main duties of the federal government by our founding fathers. As I support the constitution I support all those values. That you find those things objectionable isn't in the least surprising.

That you don't understand that OPM runs out very quickly and debt is a scourge is no surprise to me. You're quite the Keynesian.

In the past you have dismissed scientists because they were evolutionists.
Truth is, you'll jump on any wagon if it's going your way........

So you believe in :- limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense?
That's it? Please do tell me what your 'traditional American values' are.

Truth is, you don't want to pay for anything apart from 'Cops and Cannons' so that others can keep you safe, hiding in your bed at night. And I'll bet you don't really want to pay up even for them. Every service you get needs to be payed for, masses of them, and so tax men and local officials will be round to get your due payments, all the time and each year.

You need big government to provide your needs, or you'd be squealing in horror ............. you should have taken more opportunities with free education when you were young.... wouldn't be such a duffer now.

I'll be better off spending the time reading The Journey to the West.

So, your personal prejudices are so strong that if someone you don't care for recommends a source of knowledge you'll pass it by based on your personal prejudices alone. And that somehow makes you credible?

Peterson is a example of a certain Canadian type that I know well and love and work hard to stay on the good side of - extremely well educated and accomplished, usually male, usually older, often perceived as irascible to those fools he does not suffer gladly. When I listen to him speak I have vivid memories of Scotch fueled evenings discussing the issues of the day with my elders and betters who are, too often, gone from this mortal coil.

A very different breed from my other favorite Canadian type, the hoser, of whom my memories are clouded by Labatts and Molsons :)

Give Peterson a try. He's smarter than the average bear.

No. I dismiss evolution as a fantasy based upon what I consider to be far more authoritative sources. To me the Bible is far more authoritative than a scientist who disagrees with it. And there are scientists who agree with the Bible. So, I'm not dismissing anyone based upon personal prejudice.

Here's your position, as I see it, in a nutshell. The Missoula Flood was dismissed by the vast majority of scientists for 40 years. The called Bretz almost every name under the sun because of what he was proposing. The reason the vast majority of scientists dismissed and excoriated him? Because he proposed something at odds with what they thought. Then they had to reverse their own position after longs years of acrimonious behavior.

The same thing is coming for evolutionists. There will be a day when you people will be forced to acknowledge that the Bible and the story of creation is absolutely true. You will one day go down on bended knee and acknowledge that everything God says is true. It's going to be a really bad day for you when it happens if you don't change your beliefs. I hope you will. You will mock me for saying this, but you'll remember me telling you so the day it all goes completely wrong for you.

As to your "cops and cannons" remarks. I believe in a limited government where entitlements are non-existent. You know like how this country was at it's creation. There were no entitlements back then and people emigrated here because governmental power was very limited and honest personal opportunity was unlimited by government. That's how this nation became wealthy and the light of liberty flowed from it to all the world. I don't believe in government entitlements and do believe that if government would get itself out of the way, abolish the FED, and stop taxing people like it does there would be wealth created sufficient for everyone to pay their own way. It's government that has created the situation our nation is in today. It's a pity you're so indoctrinated that you refuse to consider looking into the truth.

You have no idea about my position.
But I do take great interest in the formation of the solar system......... over the last 4.6 billion years.
Even the rings on Saturn are 10-100 million years old, quite recent, but they certainly can show you which way I vote on that score.

Yeah? Do you drive a vehicle?
Where and how are your roads getting repaired? That's just one problem.... if you drive. etc etc.
Anyway, Why should you be entitled to protection, then?

You know like how this country was at it's creation. There were no entitlements back then and people emigrated here because governmental power was very limited and honest personal opportunity was unlimited by government.
It was already a country when you all got here. I've read about what happened to the indigenous people.

That's how this nation became wealthy and the light of liberty flowed from it to all the world.

not in any modern sense of the word

it was a continent, peopled with many warring "nations"

I've read about what happened to the indigenous people.

As it turned out, we were better at warring than they were :)

Really just a continuation of the story of the Celts and the Romans and the Angles and the Saxons and the Norsemen and the Normans :)

Wealthy? What did Jesus say about wealth?

silly satan, trying to quote scripture :chuckle:

But I think ....

you demonstrate no evidence of this being true :(

What I find so interesting about Peterson is his wisdom. There are many thousands, or perhaps millions, of people with his level of formal education that cannot hold a candle to him.

Several things set him apart in my eyes. The first is his level of wisdom which he demonstrates on a regular basis. He doesn't regurgitate knowledge he demonstrates how knowledge should be applied. That's wisdom. The second thing that sets him apart is his love for people. He is willing to take unbelievable amounts of abuse to help others. He is one of the most misrepresented people on earth today by his enemies. I've watched some of his videos where he gets really emotional in trying to communicate his ideas so that others may benefit from what he has learned. The man has a heart that just won't quit. Third is his ability to communicate. He's not only gifted in that area he works very hard to improve himself in that area.

I'd say Peterson is more self-educated than formally educated. He is extremely curious and that pushes him to be constantly learning. Why else would a non-Christian study scripture to the depth he has studied Genesis?

I believe you have no idea what all Jesus has had to say about wealth.

Then let Mark tell you what Jesus said:-
Mark {10:23} And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! {10:24} And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! {10:25} It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Or listen to Matthew:-
Matthew: {6:19} Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: {6:20} But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: {6:21} For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

So where's your Christian Heart, ffreeloader? God....... or Mammon?
