RSF: Now Sponges are 70% Human :)

This is the show from Friday December 10th, 2010.

BEST QUOTES OF THE SHOW:
Scientist [and evolutionist], Alan Cooper from the University of Adelaide said, "I've spent my entire career working on these [recently extinct] moas and we've had the hardest time understanding the 3 species of moas. But it turns out that there's only one species. If you're looking at our ability to completely understand human evolution in Africa from the remnants of a few pieces of bone and some teeth, if we can't get it right 600 years ago, how are we going to do it 500,000 years ago with a tiny amount of material?"
They're finding out that organisms that they say are evolutionarily ancient and very simple and they say why do these organisms have DNA for advanced regulatory processes when they didn't need those processes and they wouldn't be needed for tens of millions of years, what are they doing way down low in that supposed evolutionary tree of life that's now dead? They have so many problems that are serious, fundamental problems with Darwinism because God used this genetic tool-box and from it He created whatever He wanted to create. The fact that [evolutionists] have to use words like "simple" and "prehistoric," they give this illusion of evolution so if you don't look into the science, these things aren't simple at all. They're vastly complex. Even a sponge, for example, is not simple. An amoeba is not simple.

SUMMARY:

* Real Science Friday Focuses its Beetle Eye on Sponges: Co-hosts Fred Williams with Creation Research Society, and Bob Enyart on this episode of Real Science Friday draw from the latest issue of Creation magazine to discuss:
- Beetle larvae have eight regular eyes and four eyes with simultaneous bifocal vision to see close-up prey
- If chimps are 95% human, the sequencing of Great Barrier Reef genomes show sponges as 70% human
- Prof. asks: If we can't get extinct bird species right from 650 years ago, how can we get humanoids right?
- 48 Chromosomes and Hand Washing & Semmelweis are examples of stubbornness and bias in science
- Infants can't digest 20% of mom's milk, which sugary portion was designed by God as bait for germs
- Stickleback fish rapidly adapted to survive in colder water but now they die more quickly, showing the survival "cost" of adaptation. And the rapidity contradicts the slow trial-and-error mutation and selection method, as with Darwin's finches. This reminds us of paleontologist Stephen Jay Gould's hopeful monster theory of punctuated equilibrium that claims that the lack of fossil evidence for evolution indicates that it happened so quickly that the strata record was unable to capture it. The Jonathan Park radio drama for kids illustrates this claim by saying: "We know that elephants run through our house very quickly because we never see them."

* Special Editions of Real Science Friday:
- BEL's famous List of Not-So-Old Things
- Bob's debate with Christian Darwinist British author James Hannam
- PZ Myers blogs against Real Science Friday so Bob hits back with the Trochlea Challenge
- Waiting for Darwin's Other Shoe: Evolution mag's cover story Darwin Was Wrong on the Tree of Life
- Microbiologist in Studio: Bob talks with the Creation Research Society Quarterly editor about new genetic findings
- Caterpillar Kills Atheism: describe how a bug could evolve to liquefy itself and then build itself into a flying creature
- And see RSF Offer of $2,000 to get 16 letters of the alphabet in their correct places; $500 pd in 1998; $1,500 in 2010!

For our RSF Friends: in case you miss other BEL programs, here are some of the atheists Bob Enyart has debated:
- ABC's Reginald Finley, called The Infidel Guy, from ABC's Wife Swap program; 3-26-07;
- TheologyOnline's psychologist Zakath in a 10-round moderated written online debate, also available in soft cover;
- TOL's member who calls himself Fool; 3-28-06;
- John Henderson who wrote the book God.com 6-15-2006;
- Carlos Morales, Fox News, Huffington Post, etc. reports on U of Texas atheists Bible-turn in program, president of Atheist Agenda 7-14-10
- Freedom from Religion Foundation's Dan Barker (put the atheist sign near the Nativity at the capitol in Seattle) who was involved with the ministry of Kathryn Kuhlman, one of a group of so-called faith healers. (See a BEL listener who initially compared Bob to Benny Hinn until...) The BEL show was on 12-11-08;
- Michael Shermer, an editor with Scientific American and the Skeptic Society who in in this famous 73-second excerpt on BEL denied that the sun is a light, illustrating that it's tough debating atheists when they're hesitant to admit to even the most obvious common ground. 8-28-03

And . . . Wrong Science Friday strikes again . . . .

- If chimps are 95% human, the sequencing of Great Barrier Reef genomes show sponges as 70% human
Talk about your blatant mischaracterization.

% similarity (or having the same genes) is not the same as % identical DNA in general. The sponge is the former, the chimp is the latter.

Virtually all multicellular organisms have 70% *similar* genes to humans. That tells you those 70% of genes are what it takes to BE multicellular.

The difference between organisms comes down far less to new genes than it does to when and where those genes are expressed. This is how a chimpanzee can be 95% identical to humans and yet look so different.

But lets not pretend there is the same level of similarity of humans to sponges as there is to chimpanzees, that displays a complete lack of understanding of the genetic data.

Sponges are 70% human? You shouldn't talk about liberals that way. :D
Lol!

I have had a few sponges living in my home!:p

Moas have it backwards--the male being short and stumpy and the female being tall-lol
