RSF: Now Sponges are 70% Human

But it turns out that there's only one species. They're finding out that organisms that they say are evolutionarily ancient and very simple and they say why do these organisms have DNA for advanced regulatory processes when they didn't need those processes and they wouldn't be needed for tens of millions of years, what are they doing way down low in that supposed evolutionary tree of life that's now dead? They have so many problems that are serious, fundamental problems with Darwinism because God used this genetic tool-box and from it He created whatever He wanted to create. The fact that [evolutionists] have to use words like "simple" and "prehistoric," they give this illusion of evolution so if you don't look into the science, these things aren't simple at all. They're vastly complex. Even a sponge, for example, is not simple. An amoeba is not simple.

And . . . Wrong Science Friday strikes again . . . .

- If chimps are 95% human, the sequencing of Great Barrier Reef genomes show sponges as 70% human

Talk about your blatant mischaracterization.

% similarity (or having the same genes) is not the same as % identical DNA in general. The sponge is the former, the chimp is the latter.

Virtually all multicellular organisms have 70% *similar* genes to humans. That tells you those 70% of genes are what it takes to BE multicellular.

The difference between organisms comes down far less to new genes than it does to when and where those genes are expressed. This is how a chimpanzee can be 95% identical to humans and yet look so different.

But lets not pretend there is the same level of similarity of humans to sponges as there is to chimpanzees, that displays a complete lack of understanding of the genetic data.
