  • Evening Praise the Lord.

    Praise the Lord!

    I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied.
    Ecclesiastics 3:10

    Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable,
    always abounding in the work of the Lord,
    knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

    1 Corinthians 15:58

    And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.
    Colossians 3:23

    My Task

    To love someone more dearly ev'ry day,
    To help a wand'ring child to find his way,
    To ponder o'er a noble tho't and pray,
    And smile when evening falls
    This is my task.

    To follow truth as blind me long for light,
    To do my best from dawn of day till night,
    To keep my heart fit for His holy sight,
    And answer when He calls
    This is my task.

    And then my Savior by and by to meet,
    When faith hath made her task on earth complete,
    And lay my homage at the Master's feet,
    Within the jasper walls
    This crowns my task.

    • Praise the Lord!

      And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
      Revelation 21:4

      You shall weep no more.
      Isaiah 30:19

      How Far From Home?

      How far from home? I asked, as on
      I bent my steps the watchman spake:
      “The long, dark night is almost gone,
      The morning soon will break.
      Then weep no more, but speed thy flight,
      With Hope’s bright star thy guiding ray,
      Till thou shalt reach the realms of light,
      In everlasting day.”

      I asked the warrior on the field;
      This was his soul inspiring song:
      “With courage bold, the sword I’ll wield,
      The battle is not long.
      Then weep no more, but well endure
      The conflict, till thy work is done;
      For this we know, the prize is sure,
      When victory is won.”

      I asked again; earth, sea and sun
      Seemed, with one voice, to make reply:
      “Time’s wasting sands are nearly run,
      Eternity is nigh.
      Then weep no more with warning tones,
      Portentous sights are thickening round,
      The whole creation, waiting, groans,
      To hear the trumpet sound.”

      Not far from home! O blessed thought!
      The traveler’s lonely heart to cheer;
      Which oft a healing balm has brought,
      And dried the mourner’s tear.
      Then weep no more, since we shall meet
      Where weary footsteps never roam
      Our trials past, our joys complete,
      Safe in our Father’s home.

        Praise the Lord!

        He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
        Psalm 91:1

        Be still, and know that I am God.
        Psalm 46:10

        Evensong is Hushed in Silence

        Evensong is hushed in silence,
        And the hour of rest is nigh;
        Strengthen us for work tomorrow,
        Jesus, Son of God most high!
        Thou who in the village workshop,
        Fashioning the yoke and plough,
        Didst eat bread of daily labor,
        Help them that labor now.

        How are we to reach that City,
        Whose delights no tongue may tell?
        By the faith that looks to Jesus,
        By a life of doing well.
        Sinful men and sinful women,
        He will wash our sins away;
        He will take us to the sheepfold
        Whence no sheep can ever stray

        There the dear ones who have left us
        We shall some day meet again;
        There will be no bitter partings,
        No more sorrow, death or pain.
        Evensong has closed in silence,
        And the hour of rest is nigh;
        Lighten Thou our darkness, Jesus,
        Savior, Son of God most high!

        We are weary of life-long toil,
        Of sorrow, and pain, and sin;
        But there is a City with streets of gold,
        And all is peace within.

        • Praise the Lord!

          Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me.
          1 Chronicles 4:10

          I Do Not Ask to Choose My Path

          I do not ask to choose my path,
          Lord, lead me in Thy way;
          Inspire each thought, and prompt each word,
          And make me a blessing today.

          Around me, Lord, are sinful men,
          Who scorn and disobey;
          Use me to win them from their sins,
          And make me a blessing today.

          To those who once Thy love have known,
          But now are far astray;
          Help me to win them back to Thee,
          And make me a blessing today.

          Some saints of Thine are in distress,
          And for deliv’rance pray;
          Oh, let me go and help them, Lord,
          And make me a blessing today.

          Whatever errand Thou hast, Lord,
          Send me, and I’ll obey.
          Use me in any way Thou wilt,
          And make me a blessing today.

          Bless me, Lord, and make me a blessing;
          I’ll gladly Thy message convey.
          Use me to help some poor, needy soul,
          And make me a blessing today.

            Praise the Lord!

            Who then is willing to consecrate himself this day to the LORD?
            1 Chronicles 29:5

            I Give Myself to Thee

            Savior, who died for me, I give myself to Thee;
            Thy love so full, so free, claims all my powers;
            Be this my purpose high, to serve Thee till I die,
            Whether my path shall lie ’mid thorns or flowers.

            May it be joy for me to follow only Thee;
            Thy faithful servant be, Thine to the end;
            For Thee I’ll do and dare; for Thee the cross I’ll bear;
            To Thee direct my prayer; on Thee depend.

            Savior, with me abide; be ever near my side;
            Support, defend and guide; I look to Thee.
            I lay my hand in Thine, and fleeting joys resign,
            If I may call Thee mine eternally.

              Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
              Psalm 36:5

              Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.
              They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

              Lamentations 3:22-23

              New Every Morning

              Yea, “new every morning,” though we may awake,
              Our hearts with old sorrow beginning to ache;
              With old work unfinished when night stayed our hand,
              With new duties waiting, unknown and unplanned;
              With old care still pressing, to fret and to vex,
              With new problems rising, ours minds to perplex;
              In ways long familiar, in paths yet untrod,
              Oh, new every morning the mercies of God!

              His faithfulness fails not; it meets each new day
              With guidance for every new step of the way;
              New grace for new trials, new trust for old fears,
              New patience for bearing the wrongs of the years,
              New strength for new burdens, new courage for old,
              New faith for whatever the day may unfold;
              As fresh for each need as the dew on the sod;
              Oh, new every morning the mercies of God!

                Praise the Lord!

                Let us lift our hearts and hands to God in heaven.
                Lamentations 3:41

                Lift Up Your Hearts

                “Lift up your hearts!” We lift them, Lord, to Thee;
                Here at Thy feet none other may we see;
                Lift up your hearts! E’en so, with one accord,
                We lift them up, we lift them to the Lord.
                Above the level of the former years,
                The mire of sin, the weight of guilty fears,
                The mist of doubt, the blight of love’s decay,
                O Lord of Light, lift all our hearts today!

                Above the swamps of subterfuge and shame,
                The deeds, the thoughts, that honor may not name,
                The halting tongue that dares not tell the whole,
                O Lord of Truth, lift every Christian soul!
                Above the storms that vex this lower state,
                Pride, jealousy, and envy, rage, and hate,
                And cold mistrust that holds e’en friends apart,
                O Lord of Love, lift every brother’s heart!

                Lift every gift that Thou Thyself hast given;
                Low lies the best till lifted up to heaven;
                Low lie the bounding heart, the teeming brain,
                Till, sent from God, they mount to God again.
                Then, as the trumpet call, in after years,
                “Lift up your hearts!” rings pealing in our ears,
                Still shall those hearts respond, with full accord
                “We lift them up, we lift them to the Lord!”

                • Praise the Lord!

                  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
                  Hebrews 10:23

                  Faithful is He Who Has Promised

                  Are you passing through a testing, is your pillow wet with tears?
                  Do you wonder what the reason, why it seems God never hears?
                  Why it is you have no answer to your oft, repeated plea,
                  Why the heaven still is leaden as you wait on bended knee?

                  Do you wonder as you suffer, whether God does understand,
                  And if so, why He ignores you, fails to hold you in His Hand?
                  Do black doubts creep in, assail you, fears without--and fears within,
                  Till your brave heart almost falters and gives way to deadly sin?

                  All God's testings have a purpose, someday you will see the light.
                  All He asks is that you trust Him, walk by faith and not by sight.
                  Do not fear when doubts beset you, just remember He is near;
                  He will never, never leave you, He will always, always hear.

                  Faithful is He who has promised, He will never let you fall,
                  Daily will the strength be given strength for each and strength for all.
                  He will gladly share pain with you, He will gladly give you peace.
                  Till your tired and weary body finds its blessed, glad release.

                  When the darkened veil is lifted, then, dear heart, you'll understand,
                  Why it is you had to suffer, why you could not feel His hand
                  Giving strength when it was needed, giving power and peace within,
                  Giving joy thru tears and trial, giving victory over sin.
                  So till then just keep on trusting, thru the sunshine and the rain.

                    Psalm 23:6

                    For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.
                    Hebrews 13:14

                    I Shall Dwell Forever

                    “I shall dwell forever”; amid this world of change,
                    Where our homesick spirits oft’ feel sad and strange,
                    Where the vacant places shall never more be filled,
                    Where the ache of memory can never quite be stilled,
                    Where the silent voices echo through life’s empty room,
                    Where the brightest skies of earth must know grief’s cloud of gloom;
                    Is any promise sweeter in our Father's blessed Word?
                    “I shall dwell forever in the house of the Lord.”

                    We shall dwell forever; we shall never more go out,
                    Never more be weary with wandering about;
                    Never more be seeking for a place in which to rest,
                    Never more be dreading “the stirring of the nest.”

                    How our hearts are turning, turning ever as we roam
                    Toward the shining portals of our everlasting home!
                    Is any promise sweeter in our Father's steadfast word?
                    “I shall dwell forever in the house of the Lord.”

                    We shall dwell forever where warfare never comes,
                    Shrilling of the trumpets or boding roll of drums;
                    In a quiet resting place and in a land of peace,
                    Where all pain and sorrows forevermore shall cease,
                    In that abiding city of the rainbow-jeweled wall,
                    Set on sure foundations that shall never shake or fall.

                    Oh, the joy of looking past the things that pass away
                    To a habitation where our tired feet may stay!
                    Is any promise sweeter in all our Father's Word?

                      1 Chronicles 16:31

                      Sunday Morning Praise

                      Sing Out Your Gladsome Carols

                      Sing out your gladsome carols, set all the echoes ringing!
                      Welcome the joyous season, welcome it now with singing.
                      Light in the midst of darkness, coming from realms of day;
                      Hail to the King of Glory, ’neath the star He lay!

                      Up from the lowly manger, tell out the wondrous story!
                      Jesus who brought salvation, dwells in His home in glory.
                      Looks with His love unceasing, down to the Christmas earth;
                      O let Him see increasing, faith in His great worth!

                      Memory so sweet and precious, Christ in a manger dwelling!
                      Born in a lowly stable, coming from light excelling!
                      Seeking that lowest place, henceforth that all might know,
                      How He who brought salvation, came God’s love to show.

                      Welcome! welcome! Joyous Christmas season!
                      All thy gladness hath a blessed reason.
                      Welcome! welcome! Joyous Christmas season!

                      • Evening Praise the Lord.

                        Praise the Lord!

                        Then the angel said to them, “…I bring you good tidings of great joy…”
                        Luke 2:10

                        Carol, Sweetly Carol

                        Carol, sweetly carol, a coming Savior today;
                        Bear the joyful tidings, oh, bear them far away:
                        Carol, sweetly carol, till earth’s remotest bound
                        Shall hear the mighty chorus, and echo back the sound.

                        Carol, sweetly carol, as when the angel throng
                        O’er the vales of Judah awoke the heavenly song:
                        Carol, sweetly carol, goodwill, and peace, and love,
                        Glory in the highest to God who reigns above.

                        Carol, sweetly carol, the happy Christmas time:
                        Hark! When the bells are pealing their merry, merry chime:
                        Carol, sweetly carol ye shining angels above,
                        Sing in loudest numbers oh, sing of redeeming love.

                        Carol, sing the carol sweetly today;
                        Sing the joyful tidings, oh, bear them far away.
                        Sweetly sing the carol, the sweet carol today;
                        Sing joyfully tidings, and bear them far away.

                        • Praise the Lord!

                          Indeed the cypress trees rejoice over you, and the cedars of Lebanon.
                          Isaiah 14:8

                          The Cedars and the Pines

                          In the tops of the cedars and pines,
                          A whisper was heard sweet and low;
                          And each branch as it hears and inclines,
                          Shakes off its fair burden of snow.
                          List!, the whisper says, Christmas is near;
                          The pines and the cedars all know
                          That they’ll aid in the joy and the cheer,
                          For this day they flourish and grow.

                          They have heard that their branches so green,
                          All ladened with silver and gold,
                          To enliven the fairy-like scene
                          Tinted candles abundant will hold.
                          While their fruits far more precious and rare,
                          Than summer or autumn can bring
                          Cause the children, so happy and fair,
                          Their praises to shout and to sing.

                          Then the whispering turns to a song,
                          And catching the welcoming cheer,
                          They, too, for the Christmas-day long,
                          And joy to leave forests so drear.
                          As the eve of the year nears its close,
                          When verdure and flowers seem dead,
                          Then the evergreen calm in repose,
                          To Christmas and gladness is wed.

                            Quick as the slaughtered squadrons fell in Midian’s evil day.
                            To us a Child of Hope is born, to us a Son is given,
                            Him shall the tribes of earth obey, Him all the hosts of heaven.

                            His name shall be the Prince of Peace, forevermore adored,
                            The Wonderful, the Counselor, the great and mighty Lord.
                            His power increasing still shall spread, His reign no end shall know:

                              Praise the Lord!
                              And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:1-7

                              Christmas Day - December 25th, 2012

                              In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness.
                              John 1:4-5

                              Light Looked Down

                              Light looked down and beheld Darkness.
                              “There will I go,” said Light.
                              Peace looked down and beheld War.
                              “There will I go,” said Peace.
                              Love looked down and saw Hatred.
                              “There will I go,” said Love.
                              Light came and did shine.
                              Peace came and gave rest.
                              Love came and brought Life.

                              And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
                              “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
                              Luke 2:13-14

                              Across the Templed Hills

                              Now sweeps a song of solemn joy
                              Across the templed hills;
                              From seraph harps sweet music floats,
                              That earth and Heaven thrills.

                              The tuneful notes still ring afar,
                              Like bells that gaily chime,
                              Thro’ moonlit skies, from star to star,
                              To hail the Christmas-time.

                              We hear again the blissful strain,
                              The message breathed once more;
                              All glory be to God! we cry,
                              Whose name our souls adore.

                              Hark the song, glad song, overflowing all the earth!
                              Hark the anthem sweet, bringing news of Jesus’ birth!
                              While the midnight skies with a wondrous beauty glow,
                              Comes the Christ-Child to dwell below.

                                Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. ~ Leo Buscaglia

                                The best portion of a person’s life -- are the little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love. ~ William Wordsworth
