I just don't pretend like I don't live in a world filled with sin. I would be stupid if I thought I could live as if we were all saints.

But God expects that of us. Since many are not controlled by God's Word as seen in Holy Scripture, he gave man civil laws to live by, which I pointed out in an earlier post are morally absolute.

It's the same as my trying to claim I wouldn't deserve to break my neck if I jumped off a tall building. Is that really what you think I should believe?

Your analogy has no 2nd party. As I acknowledged in one of your earlier posts, unwise decisions done by an individual can make oneself a victim (cleaning a loaded gun, etc.).

Unless there was self defense involved, there is no reason another person would be justified in pushing you off of a building to your death.

Meaning that your immoral lifestyle will eventually catch up with you.

God's laws are absolute though, and our civil laws reflect that:

It's "Thou shalt not steal"

not

"Thou shalt not steal unless a purse was left on a car seat and no one is around".

So, enticing someone to sin is okay? I know when I leave my purse on the seat of an unlocked vehicle that someone will be tempted to take it. That's common sense.

Proverbs 7:21-23
With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

We live in a world of sin. Are we not responsible to know better than to walk on hot coals?

Proverbs 6:28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

Okay, so the tall building was a bad example. But, I'm not saying the thief would be justified in taking my purse. There is no justification for wrong doing.

I'm saying I have some fault in the matter as well. We don't have to share any fault...there is enough to go around. He is at fault for what he does, and I am at fault for what I do, and I am providing a temptation that I shouldn't be providing.

The person or thing doing the enticing is irrelevant. If you're saying that they or it have at least some responsibility in the immoral actions of others, then you're lessening the importance that God gave man when it comes to FREE WILL to choose right from wrong.

In closing (I've been blogging for hours now and need to get out and about) :

My pastor is starting a series of sermons on sexual immorality. Amongst the things he talked about yesterday is the temptation society gives us to sexually sin. For instance, immoral sex (i.e. out of wedlock sex) is being promoted everywhere that you look. TV, movies, advertising, the internet.

Let's discuss internet pornography for a minute.

Anyone has 24/7/365 access to internet pornography. It's a terribly immoral industry that makes billions of dollars off of women, children and men who are often times kidnapped and drugged to perform sickening immoral acts. The easy availability "entices" many to view pornography ( the purse sitting in plain view in an unlocked car).

That being said: I have TOTAL CONTROL over that keyboard and mouse in front of me. No one can make me do something immoral, something that goes against the laws of God, whether it be grabbing your purse from your unlocked car or clicking on a porn website.

Free will is a beautiful thing, it's something that God wants mankind to use wisely no matter what other things around us might "entice" us to do wrong.

Still it is wrong to tempt someone to sin. It was wrong for Satan to tempt Christ, and it's wrong for us to tempt others. We have to admit our own part in wrong doing.

For instance, strippers are enticing others to sin, and they can't be exonerated of their own guilt when others sin because of them.

Even something so simple as leaving something valuable in plain view is enticing someone else to sin. There is some fault there as well as for those who take it. I can't say, "I did nothing to deserve having my purse stolen". Not and be honest with myself, that's for sure.

glorydaz pointed out that people can be victims of this own unwise actions, (cleaning a loaded gun, etc.) aside from that, the responsibility lies totally with the perpetrator.
Yep.
In her scenarios the perp and the victim are the same person.
Not so with rape cases.
They were poor scenarios to make her case that rape victims deserve to be blamed for the perp's action.

So leaving your purse on your car seat is inherently wrong? I'd walk by it a million times and not think once about stealing it. Again: by taking partial blame for your actions that are not immoral, you're justifying the inherently immoral actions of another.

I run across the same liberal guilt trip all too frequently in my line of work.

"I deserved to have my purse stolen because I left it on the chair unattended when I went to use the restroom."

You did nothing inherently wrong (failing to lock your car door, your house door, or walking down a dark street at night doesn't mean that you DESERVE to be car prowled, burglarized or assaulted).

Honest people need to start holding the dishonest 100% accountable for their immoral actions if we want to clean up this ever so morally confused society of ours.

Excellent!

No one is to blame for rape except the rapist.
No one is to blame for theft except the thief.

Yes, BUT keep in mind that there are certain immoral behaviors that people partake in that should not surprise them when they fall prey to a criminal.

If I get falling down drunk (an inherently immoral action because I lose self control), while I don't deserve to be robbed while staggering down a dark street with a fist full of cash in my hand, I shouldn't be surprised when it happens. But again, it doesn't mean that I DESERVED it.

You're limiting the definition of the word "deserve". The drunk got exactly what he deserved. It's a matter of just deserts. Just deserts can be either good or bad rewards for what we have done.

Iniquities deserve punishment...even an "inherently immoral action" like falling down drunk and getting robbed.
Ezra 9:13
And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;

It's like the word "reward". Rewards can be good or bad. Surely Paul is not asking the Lord to damn Alexander to hell. Rather he is calling down the godly principle of reaping what we sow in this life.

2 Timothy 4:14
Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:

Well, that's half the story.

The stripper is to blame for her own immoral behavior and the consequences that may come from that behavior.

And the woman who leaves her purse sitting on the front seat is to blame for the loss of her purse.

If you bait a trap, you are responsible for whatever you may snap up.

It is inherently wrong in this world of sin. Let's just say it was a child instead of a purse.

I run across the same liberal guilt trip all too frequently in my line of work.

"I deserved to have my purse stolen because I left it on the chair unattended when I went to use the restroom."

That's not a liberal guilt trip. It's common sense and accepting responsibility for one's own stupid behavior. There is nothing more liberal than to hear this cry of, "I did nothing to deserve that." "I didn't deserve to get that F in science." "I didn't deserve to have to pay for that window...all of us were playing ball." It starts young and grows to the point where we don't even take responsibility for our own bad decisions in anything....we blame the other guy.

Well, I call it wrong to leave my car unlocked in this day and age. And, I call it wrong to let my kids run the neighbor like we did in the 50's. It's wrong because of the world we live in today.

It won't do me a bit of good to hold dishonest people accountable. It has never stopped the sinners from sinning. It has never stopped the thieves from stealing.

That's like claiming we can teach men not to rape. No, we have a responsibility to keep ourselves safe to every degree we possibly can. And we are to blame when we're negligent...when we know better.

they'll accept the red part

but not the purple - not when the consequence is rape

If someone baits a car in a bad neighborhood with a purse and waits to catch a habitual thief, are they wrong? Is that bad, or does that clean things up a bit?
