'More guns in the hands of the general population' has been the foundation of the 150 shootings/weapon discharges in schools in the last three years or so in the US. More guns means more guns in the hands of the unstable.

The rest of the civilized world puts guns in a place where they are not available easily through the black market, that is a a real world effect of effective gun control.

Also many of the high school shootings are kids using relatives or other non black market guns, these would be affected by gun control.
