Sermons should be about obedience !

What about the Obedience of Christ ? Look what it did for many Rom 5:19

For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

What you think about that Obedience ?

Obedience is central for the disciple of Christ.

The many which Christ gave His Life for Mat. 20:28 are the same ones, the many, that are declared to be Righteous by His Obedience on their behalf Rom. 5:19. So they become doers of the Law perfectly in Christ their Head:

Rom. 2:13
(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

Hey Sis, folk don't want to discuss Christ obedience and what it accomplished, but what they do as obedience. That is a subtle pride and boasting.

Yeah I know that Brother, that's what the religions of man thrive on though: Placing the focus on works a person does instead of the Work Christ accomplished on behalf all all His Sheep! As a matter of fact, even when the Sheep are born sinners, before they do anything, they were already dead to the Law by the Body of Christ Rom. 7:4; Rom 4:7-8: Eph. 2:8-9! ☺

Amen to all your replies. But this post is about the obedience of disciples of Christ. The issue is that sermons are ineffective in building obedient disciples. Preachers talk theory not practice. Preachers speak more for Eph 1-3 rather than Eph 4-6 or Rom 1-8 rather than Ropm 12-16 They cannot teach obedience from their own experience

The increasing obedience of disciples of Christ to the known will of God is sanctification. It is not works righteousness! It is the good works in Christ that God destined disciples to do. To focus preaching and teaching on maturing disciples in greater obedience to the known will of God is not boasting. There is far too little attention to this in preaching and teaching in church meetings. To focus all attention on the work of Christ is to be out of balance with the New Testament itself. Christ is the foundation and the Spirit builds on that foundation through preaching and teaching.

So we are still subject to the Law...

A person in an unregenerate state can't keep the law or do anything else that pleases God.

Rom. 3:11-12
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

No need to be so dark about it all...With Him all things are possible...add to that the Spirit leading you to obedience and following Him His Way and you are well along having your faith produce pleasing fruit...

Those Christ lived and died for, they are made righteous, doers of the law, by His Obedience alone, not theirs.

Rom. 5:19
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Is why we want to do JUST AS He did...not to merit but because He did...

As if we could do otherwise...add to the word with our own traditions...

Heaven forbid! We establish His Law...

Obedience is central for the disciple of Christ. That is a way of life that is obedient to the will of God that is clearly set out in the letters and writings of the New Testament. The role of the pastor and elders is to teach this known will of God so it becomes a reality in the disciples life. Their task is to work together with God in making obedient disciples. The role of sermons and teaching is not just an intellectual understanding of Bible doctrines or theology. Sermons too often deal with theory not practice. For example sermons on Ephesians chapters 1 to 3 rather than chapters 4 to 6. Or Sermons on Romans chapters 1-8 rather than chapters 12-16. The privilege of preaching to the disciples weekly is wasted if it does not get down to the nitty gritty of obeying what the will of God is as given in the New Testament. And sermons need to be followed through until the disciples put it into practice. The greatest obstacle to preaching that helps make obedient disciples is that pastors and elders themselves are not obedient to the revealed will of God and cannot speak from experience. The Spirit cannot use their theorising to build obedient disciples.
No offense meant, but I guess Calvinist ministers do not see any need for preaching obedience.

1. What's the use of preaching obedience to the elect who they believe are NOT able to not obey?
2. What's the use of preaching obedience to the non-elect who they believe are doomed anyway?

It's only Christ's Sheep which shall be born again and shown to be Righteous in Him, as if they do just as He has done on their behalf.

His Righteousness Rom. 5:19b was imputed them and their sins imputed to Him Rom. 4:7-8.

Now if one is never Born of the Spirit, all the work they do to imitate Christ is for nought, just filthy rags in God's sight Is. 64:6!
