Being a bum is a choice, the opportunity is out there, it is up to the individual to capture it. The difference is the state/other citizens are not responsible for your condition, nor should they be. America does not provide happiness, it affords you the right to pursue it...or to be a bum.

What a load of crap! and a typical response from someone that feels that the government or it's citizenry owe you something more than you are willing to work for. Having money, higher education, a home, etc, are not "gimme's" they are fruits of labor, you degrade those willing to put forth effort to attain them, attempting to turn them into inherent rights and they are not, nor should they be. If you want the better things in a capitalist system you have to get of your dead butt/bum and work for it, a persons financial condition is in their control to change.

You will do well slong as you are willing to work for your money and quit looking for a handout from fruit of your neighbors labor...he/she doesn't owe you anything, make your own way.

So everyone homeless, out of work etc is what, a 'bum'? You're just talking bollocks RM. Many homeless people have fallen on hard times through circumstance, not because they want to live in a cardboard box on the streets, the same with many who live in poverty. This pompous and callous attitude you display is just rooted in simplistic ignorance, (as if everyone has the same opportunity, I mean get real man).

Well it took a hundred years between the emancipation of slaves to the signing of civil rights, I just naturally assumed it always takes Americans a hundred years to implement laws

:chuckle:

No you didn't. You thought you knew American history but you don't.

Seriously, people here wanted her to be president. It's just straight up, bat guano crazy.

She made perfect sense. She is mocking people like you zoo....like you brain....no wonder that flew right by you. People working at fast food jobs aren't supposed to earn a living wage. They are stepping stone jobs. Jobs that pay a living wage do so because they they provide a needed service. McDonalds doesn't pay $16 an hour because most people don't want to pay $20 for a big Mac , fries and a drink. Why are you guys so slow to understand that?

Er, yeah. I suppose she was mocking when she didn't know the difference between North and South Korea as well, right?

Good to know that working in fast food outlets doesn't or shouldn't entitle one to a 'living wage' though...

Changing the subject doesn't help you out. No one is entitled to a living wage. If you are given a wage which is higher than the market will bear, then either you won't have a job for a long time or your employer will be out of business unless the government subsidies the business then you have a whole other set of problems.
