I hope you don't mind if I take this one, too.

1 A.D. is the year that followed 1 B.C. There was no period of time between the two.

Some people have a misconception that A.D. stands for After Death (of Christ). It actually stands for anno Domini, which is Latin for "in the year of our Lord."

Welcome to TOL, avoice!

Does God ever violate free-will? When? Why?
No.

God many times chooses people for tasks and even pushes, prods and manipulates people in various circumstances but we find NO biblical evidence of Him taking away their will.

If God did choose to remove freewill....
He would have simply flipped His "freewill override switch" and Jonah could have skipped the whole "fish ordeal". :D

Bummer. Hmm, let's see. What about uploading it to my FTP server?

Hi Mara!

Why are we here? On TOL? Because its the best website in the world! :D

Or do you mean why are we here on earth? Why did God make us?

The answer is....

The eternal God, creator of all that exists is a loving emotional God and God felt compelled to create other beings which He could love and could love Him in return. For love has little meaning if love cannot be dispensed.

Therefore we are "here" to love. To love God, and to love one another.

Did you mean, "For life has little meaning..."?

To which the average Joe Christian would respond, I love God and others too. I try to be a good husband and father to my children. I also try to help those who are in need. But I feel as though I'm missing something -- I don't feel any sense of real purpose in my life.

What would you say to Joe in response to his dilema?
