If you put as much effort into empathy for the poor as opposed to sneering at them and our British cousins you'd make a bigger dent in the world.

Empathy never fed a single mouth and I certainly do not agree with socialism on the grounds of fairness, equality, ethics, or any other virtue "our British cousins" might want to tag it with. Socialism is their system, they can keep it, it is theirs, not ours and if they want to complain about our system then I will tell them to mind their own affairs.

Changing the subject doesn't help you out. No one is entitled to a living wage. If you are given a wage which is higher than the market will bear, then either you won't have a job for a long time or your employer will be out of business unless the government subsidies the business then you have a whole other set of problems.

Firstly, MacDonalds is hardly likely to go out of business. Hell, there's probably one in Bloody Antarctica. There's a new drive in one that's just recently opened up in my home town to go with the one that's already in the centre. I doubt anyone undertakes a job with such an establishment in the hopes of remaining there until pension age but that's besides the point. They should be entitled to a wage that's enough to live on. Considering how overpaid plenty of corporate fat cats are then why the hell not?

Oh, and she's just bat crazy. Seeing her fawn and eulogize over that dingbat Trump was cringeworthy.

Which is why it is best to get a union job ... two to three time higher wages, superior benefits and not as likely to be taken advantage of. :)

Oh, there's a reason why these places hire staff as young as they do, just like pub chains do. They can take advantage, offer crap wages and no grievance procedures because staff turnover runs like a conveyor belt...

Indeed ... they are the Phil Robertson's of the business world. The younger the employee, the easier they are to take advantage of and control.

Plus your union dues line the pockets of those truly in need.

Oh. Your *argument* is that Sean Penn played a character who visited a convenience store.

Or did you just want to post a funny picture?

My point is that it's the employer, the one who has invested his finances and time into making his or her business succeed that decides what is fair to pay his employees. If the zit faced burger flipper at the fast food joint doesn't like it, there's the door.

Britain is not "socialist" by any stretch, your skewed definition of the word notwithstanding...
