you could use a sail
but
you still have control over your boat

you have to sail your boat
you can't expect someone to do it for you

the wind is free
and
you can use it

If God prepared the works so that we should walk in them then it is Him who performs the works through us.

I am a vessel in the hands of the Potter. He will do with me what He will.

I am a boat in the wind of Him who calms the waves. He carries me where He will.

Phil. 2:13

:)

Faith and works are the two oars by which a man pulls his boat to heaven's safe harbor.
Neither faith nor works will open the gate to heaven's safe harbor, that gate can only be opened from the inside.

However, only faith combined with works will get you to the gate so the One inside the gate can open it and pull you into heaven's safe harbor.

I think it would be safe to say that it is not man's faith or works but God's grace that pulls us into heaven's safe harbor,
