Jack White, formerly of The White Stripes, has just completed a three year project of remastering and re-releasing 1,600 old blues songs from the Paramount record company from the early 1900's. Paramount closed sometime in the early 30's, so it's the old blues stuff. The set includes restorations of the old magazine and newspapers ads from the early 1900's. It includes the music of blues legends like Charlie Patton and Blind Lemon Jefferson, as well as numerous obscure artists. I think it's fantastic that White has essentially helped to save this great music. I'm a huge fan of the pre-war blues. I have the complete recording of numerous of the artists included, but I can't wait to get this set to hear the more obscure songs that may have been almost lost to history.

I'm a huge fan of Jack White. Who's done more or even close to equal what he did, with just him, his guitar, and an anemic drummer? :)

Just the old blues players who used just them an a guitar. Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, Son House, Tommy Johnson, Blind Blake, Lemon Jefferson, John Lee Hooker, etc. No one since then.

I'm a huge Jack White fan too. I play plenty of White Stripes on my guitar. Really, Jack White is in a league of his own in his generation. The only guys that can really match up with him artistically were making records before 1980 or so.

So not the thing I would normally listen to but after seeing "Last Night" earlier and this track being used at the end thought I might as well post it. It fitted the film to a tee and so affecting...evocative in its own way regardless...
