toldailytopic: Why does the mainstream media lean so far to the left? What's the root

He rarely talks about homosexuality, abortion, pornography, those things that are at the forefront of the culture war.

Limbaugh mainly speaks about economic issues.

Right because he has been trying to avoid polarizing his fiscally conservative audience with issues that might be divisive with them. At any rate, economics is certainly a social issue in that it encroaches on the myriad of social issues for which there is a market. That is why I specified "fiscally conservative" when I did.

I know you don't want to hear another personal experience but I really don't care what you want to hear. While I was working in the building industry in Miami I had a coworker who was a crossdressing faggot (a real fag and not just a false accusation like Stripe makes). He liked to listen to Rush all the time. Limbaugh's business sense has lead him to avoid discussing such issues to a great degree. And this is just more support for my claim that any news media organization is more often than not just another business. The host only makes money if that host is popular to a certain audience. Neither the left nor the right side can escape that business aspect.

I'm not sure the media really does. The better question would be, why does the mainstream media lie to all of us virtually all the time?

People don't enter Journalism school because they have a passion for fact finding and writing shorthand, they do it because they want to change what they feel is wrong with the world based on how they have been indoctrinated. Once in the business a journalist won't get very far if they don't impress the 80% democrats who populate the industry.

Their world view is so slanted that they sincerely think FOX news is a lie.

I don't automatically think either side is neccesarily a lie (minus the obvious attempts at deceit). I do recognize the slant on both sides and realize the reason(s) behind this.

they do? really? when they cheerlead the torture, the aggressive wars, the bankster bailouts, the flouting of the constitution by a right wing president (and he is right wing regardless of his party for the US has two right wing property parties)??

American mainstream media is left leaning?

I WISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's another example of left-wing media bias.

I just got back from Olympia where the 240,000 signatures were submitted to the Secretary of State so that the same sex marriage law could be put to a vote come November.

Hearing the speakers, it's obvious that the reporting is biased. For one thing, it's not mentioned that 31 States had voted to make marriage between one man and one woman. Notice how this article talks about only the 9 states, whose liberal legislator enacted homosexual "marriage" without the people's say.

"There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in
America as an independent press. You know it and I know it.

There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions,
and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in
print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinions out of the
paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries
for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to
write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another
job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my
paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.

The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and
to sell his country and his race for his daily bread.

You know it and I know it and what folly is this toasting an
independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind
the scenes. We are jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we
dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the
property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

At the present time all the British press bar 2 newspapers are singing the same right wing austerity song including the telly channels.

There is so-o much corruption going on.

Before the last election the two foremost political correspendants BBC and Sky were promised their own political channels IF the Tories won the election with a policy to deregulate further the television [the Leveson enquiry is a whitewash which because it is going on before peoples noses on telly people fail to see, they are getting away with blue murder] they were SO-O biased against Labour during the election which apart from Iraq had been a good government.

The stupid Brits believe everything the gogglebox tells them.

They KNOW [from bitter experience] that the Tories ruined Britain in the 80s and 90s and now they are back again finishing the job.

Left and right does not mean morally liberal or conservative in Britain as it does in the US they are ALL morally bankrupt over here.

And Americans ought to wake up to the fact that the Republicans only pay lip service to the church...they will sway where the votes are in the end. The only way governments will be moral is if the people are moral.

I didn't know that in order to acknoweldge God's word, in this case homosexuality being a sin, one had to live in a theocractic society.
The real issue here is their ignorance in thinking that we'd have to be in a theocracy for it to be a crime.

The real issue here is their ignorance in thinking that we'd have to be in a theocracy for it to be a crime.

I had more than my fair share of that lunacy with Ralphie in the Libertarian thread.

Notice how those that promote buggery don't use that smokescreen in other arguments, i.e. they don't say in order to have laws against incest or bestiality, we first have to be a theocracy.

Back to left-wing media bias.

While in Olympia yesterday observing the submission of the pro marriage petitions, I couldn't help notice the despondent look on the 6 or so members of the media that were there. Keep in mind, these same so-called "journalists" helped put the current administration (fag hag Governor Chris Gregoire) that signed this travesty of justice (homosexual marriage) into office.

The media in attendance were well aware that there were 240,000 signatures at the time, yet they only stated that there was 200,000. More importantly, it was mentioned by representatives of Preserverse Marriage WA that this was the most signatures EVER submitted in Washington State Referendum history.

One would think that would be newsworthy. Obviously it wasn't for the left leaning media in attendance.

Can someone define exactly what defines a "left position" and a "right position"?

For instance, does the "Right" always advocate following the constitution? (Hint: No, especially when it conflicts with evangelical agendas, but yes, when it's Obamacare, or practically anything with his name on it.)

And then there's foreign policy, in which Ron Paul is "Left" of Barack Obama. Say what? Does not wanting to kill oversees sit you in with the same crowd as abortion advocates, as if the two issues somehow correlate in some way?

All I'm saying is, the terms Right and Left are idiotic, narrow minded, and intentionally gang-like two-sided two-party categorizing.

I agree that there are a lot of drawbacks to using a left/right paradigm, and yet it's the easiest shorthand for most people to use and to make a quick gauge of position.

Right/wrong is the ultimate paradigm, but then the argument will proceed to whose right and wrong you're using.

And because that won't work for most political arguments, it's natural to fall back to the other.

Here is a link about the corporate ownership of the media companies.

link

This infographic created by Jason at Frugal Dad shows that almost all media comes from the same six sources.

That's consolidated from 50 companies back in 1983.

NOTE: This infographic is from last year and is missing some key transactions. GE does not own NBC (or Comcast or any media) anymore. So that 6th company is now Comcast. And Time Warner doesn't own AOL, so Huffington Post isn't affiliated with them.

But the fact that a few companies own everything demonstrates "the illusion of choice," Frugal Dad says. While some big sites, like Digg and Reddit aren't owned by any of the corporations, Time Warner owns news sites read by millions of Americans every year.
