I think it's an governmental economic strategy.

When gas prices skyrocketed the cost for all goods and services went up across the board.
the unemployment rate also skyrocketed.

this meant more and more expensive commodities on the shelves and less people with money to buy them.

if people don't buy the products (in this case prepared foods) then companies close and the situation gets worse.

They are using the governments vast wealth leverage to offset a failed economy.
They are hoping they can keep it going long enough for it to recover....but it's like putting a band-aid on a bleeding ulcer.

I blame the laborers because they knew that crap was going on and still worked there... they knew the 8% wage cut was coming a long time ago and did nothing proactively about it.

If they knew what was going on upstairs from the production floor what action should the laborers have taken?
