The Great Fiscal Cliff of 2012-13
Martin D. Weiss interviews Charles Goyette

A growing list of authorities are now warning that one of the deadliest financial crises in U.S. history is set to level the U.S. economy beginning this coming New Year’s Day.

JP Morgan says that, barring a miracle in Washington, America will fall “head first into the fiscal meat grinder.”

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke agrees, saying that paralysis in Washington will cause America to plunge off the “fiscal cliff” on January 1, 2013.

And former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin warns that the impact of the fiscal cliff could be worse than the fallout from the 2008 financial crisis, which resulted in the worst recession since the Great Depression.

According to these insiders, this new crisis will vaporize millions more jobs in every sector of the economy …

Tear $1.6 trillion out of the hands of U.S. consumers and companies …

Bankrupt thousands of businesses …

And drive the unemployment rate to unimaginable levels.

Are they right? Is America’s economy only weeks away from one of the most traumatic collapses in memory?

And if so, how can you prepare?

In a very timely online briefing last week, my team and I provided answers:

I guess I am as ready as I am going be. But I think for the average family (the majority of us) is goanna get really really hard and life as we accustomed too will be thing of the past.

Nope not ready for a "possible expiration", but ready to put on my seatbelt and load up on my arms.
What disturbs me the most, is the majority of people who blindly and blanketly approve/vote for Obama having ZERO clue how this will ultimately impact their households and ZERO clue (or care) what his ultimate agenda is for the United States.

My wife has just started working full-time again, and we are trying to save for retirement. The reinstatement of the "marriage penalty" comes at a bad time for us.

If God will laugh at it, would I be an "Antichrist" if I laughed along with God?? >>>---- Proverbs 1:26-29 KJV – 26 “I ( also ) will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; ( when distress and anguish cometh upon you ). 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD”.

Maybe Christ will say, "I told you so".

Paul – 092112

Pfft. You deficit hawks should welcome it. If you really want to deal with the debt, taxes will have to go up.

The so called "fiscal cliff" is another game of chicken where Republicans are trying to hold tax cuts for the rich hostage to everything else.

More than likely we'll go over the cliff then come back and reinstate tax cuts minus those for the rich. It's another one of those games of chicken like we had with the debt ceiling. Each one damages the reputation of the US but until both parties are willing to give a little it's going to keep happening and hurting us.

Liberal Socialist Definition Of Rich: Employed

Nope.

Definition of Rich: Someone that makes 13 million dollars a year but hasn't worked an actual job since 2007.

This person then pays a lower tax rate than anyone who gets up and works a 9 to 5 job.

The Horror! somebody actually made money and it was not redistributed to the masses. More power to them, they spend it more wisely than the federal government anyway, just means some freeloader won't get their free stuff. Breaks my heart...Not!

You are actually complaining about a person who paid 2 million in taxes and gave another $4 million to charity????

It's never enough for you liberals is it?

And only took a deduction on 2 million of those charitable dollars given.

No, it will never be enough because they covet that which they do not have themselves...

It is rather interesting that these crazy liberals have the audacity to attack someone that gave back roughly 15% in taxes and gave another 30% to charity. That was 45% of his income given back and yet it is not enough, the key here is that he did not give it to the government to be squandered, he gave it to charity which may not support liberal causes... Alate, how much did you give to charity? My guess is given as much to charity as you have given to the TOL-A-Thon even though you use TOL as your soundboard you're too cheap to donate or even buy a subscription, yet you bag on a man that gives 45% of his income in taxes and charitable donations.

"Made money" by sitting on his duff while the rest of us work hard physically and mentally and are taxed at a higher rate. How is that fair?

Labor should not be taxed higher than capital. That's simply wrong. It's the underlying cause of redistribution of wealth, redistribution upward.

I'm not talking about any "freeloaders", there are relatively few of those. (No the 47% are not freeloaders)

It has nothing to do with cheapness. I refuse to give my hard earned money to a site that promotes misinformation as truth and allows the stupidest people on the site free reign to attack people personally. The site is a dictatorship, not a democracy as it is privately owned. If I don't like how the dictatorship works, I'm under no obligation to support it.

We give plenty to actual charities, our church and a few other organizations. But arguing over charitable donations are a sideshow meant to distract from tax rates. Government is our shared responsibility.

Paying to charity (especially when that charity is mostly the Mormon church) is not the same as supporting government services that everyone needs, roads, education, police, fire, defense, support for the poor and elderly. The question that is before all Americans in the next election will be what services do we want and how do we want to pay for them?
