The Atonement: What did it REALLY Accomplish?

Certain things accompanied Salvation, or Christ. Christ is called God's Salvation here Lk 2:27-30

27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

The word accompany in Heb 6:9 is the word echo:

A.to be closely joined to a person or a thing

These things are closely joined to the Person of our Salvation Christ . These things come along with Christ !

Now one of the things that accompany Salvation is the Sanctification of the Spirit 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

This is because God hath made Christ unto us Sanctification 1 Cor 1:30

30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Sanctification accompanies the giving of Christ Rom 8:32

32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

How could God give His Son to us sinners, without also with Him giving us Sanctification, and this comes in the Person of the Holy Spirit"s Sanctifying Work being applied to us. Jesus prayed that one end of His Death was that they may be sanctified by the Truth Jn 17:19-20

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Which brings us to another thing that accompanies Salvation and that is " The belief of the Truth" Or Faith. That's how others will believe on Him through their word, because they also shall be sanctified through the Truth !

The word belief in 2 Thess 2:13 is the word pistis a noun that is translated in the NT the word Faith some 239 times, which also denotes persuade or to be induced by words to believe !

The Holy Spirit in Sanctifying them, persuades their belief in the Truth Faith, and that is why to such as they, Rom 1:16 is True:

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

The Gospel is the Power of God to everyone that is believing, believing the Truth as Per 2 Thess 2:13. So Faith / Belief of the Truth accompanies Salvation.

That's why the writer of Hebrews could write in the midst of Apostasy among them this Heb 10:39

39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

The saving of the Soul is Salvation ! That's Because their believing is produced by the Power of God Rom 1:16 and Sanctifying Work of the Spirit 2 Thess 2:13; In God giving us Christ, He with Him [along with Him] gives us all things that produces a Life of Godliness Rom 8:32' 2 Pet 1:3

3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

And acknowledging the Truth is Godliness Titus 1:1

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

Plain and simple if we are one of the Ones God to us Christ was given Rom 8:32, then so was the Acknowledging of the Truth which is after Godliness, Amen to the Glory of God !

Amen Brother, we shall Praise Him Forever !

All for whom Christ died are the man that is called blessed here in Rom 4:8

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

8 Blessed and happy and to be envied is the person of whose sin the Lord will take no account nor reckon it against him.

John Gill on this verse:

Now again, Rom 4:8 is foundational on 1 Cor 15:3

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

Now this is true because the sins that are not imputed to those of Rom 4:8 as well as 2 Cor 5:19, those sins were by the Justice of God Imputed to Christ, He must die for them, not them, that was the suretyship arrangement before the world began. That means Christ became the principle debtor to God's Law and Justice for them !

Then again we looked at the effects of sin not being imputed to those in Rom 4:8 and 2 Cor 5:19, which #1 is forgiveness of sins Rom 4:7

7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Barnes quotes calvin here on this vere saying:

And I concur that Forgiveness of sins is Justification / Acquittal before God.

Its what Paul means by Justification here Rom 8:33

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

That's the result of God not imputing sin Rom 4:8 !

And #2. Its Righteousness Imputed without works [doings, actions, obeying] Rom 4:6

6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

To better understand this concept , its just like how adam's sin was imputed to them without their act of actual disobedience, so likewise Christ's Righteousness is imputed to them without their actual act of obedience !

Now understand this Righteousness Imputed to us is the reciprocal exchange for sin Imputed to Christ. 2 Cor 5:21

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

He by imputation was made sin [an offering] and we by imputation was made Righteous !

That equates out to Our Justification and His Condemnation, for Our sins 1 Cor 15:3; which goes along with 2 Cor 5:21. This Truth is also reflected here Rom 5:18

18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon[by imputation] all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon[by Imputation] all men unto justification of life.

This is part of the Blessedness of Christ dying for our sins, if He did die for them, if we were one of His Sheep !

Amen to #372 and #374 **** !

One of the purposes of Christ's Death, which He does accomplish, it is so that those He died for will bear fruit unto God . Rom 7:1-4

Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that[in order that] ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

The Death of Christ, for all whom He died, has caused them to dead or separated/loosed from the Law, they have no legal obligation to law for life, cannot be condemned by the law, are redeemed from its curse Gal 3:13, it has no dominion/power over them, but its for a purpose, not merely to be in limbo or unproductive, but in order that they can be married or joined to Christ, by New Birth and bring fruit unto God !

Now one of those fruits unto God is Repentance, Paul preached it here Acts 20:21

21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

That Repentance is a Fruit unto God is seen here in the words of the Baptist Matt 3:7-8

7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet or befitting, corresponding for repentance:

John knew that not all had been made meet for repentance, and He knew some have Matt 3:1-2

In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

He knew that God had specially prepared or made meet to bring forth repentance.

And this was one of the designs and accomplishments of the Death of Christ, for if it did not effect this, it would have failed the Divine Purpose. That's why it says after He being Exalted, it was for this Acts 5:31

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

And Acts 11:18

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

That's how Christ's Death, Him being lifted up, bears fruit Jn 12:24

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Repentance unto God Acts 20:21 is part of that Fruit that Chist's dying as a Corn of Wheat brings forth !

That's why He commanded His Messengers to Preach Repentance in His Name Lk 24:47

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

It was to bring into manifestation His Fruit bearing Death. Everytime a sinner repents, its Joy in Heaven Lk 15:7,10

7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

That's Christ's Joy, witnessing the fruit of His Death Heb 12:1-2

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Remember the prophecy Isa 53:11

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

That word satisfied means fulfilled ,delighted , joyous !

Is this the Christ you know and Serve ? The Christ I serve and the one Scripture witnesses to, He bears fruit unto God because of His Death. His Death severed those He died for from the Law, that they should be joined to, then bring fruit unto God. Notice also the fruit is after being joined or married to Him by the New birth by the Spirit , For Faith and repentance are Christ's bearing fruit unto God and we know Faith is a Fruit of the Spirit Gal 5:22!

TY for this Excellent Teaching in the Scriptures !

Christs death ensures for all whom He died Spiritual Life to serve the Living God !

Heb 9:12-14

12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

The writer of Hebrews here in showing the superiority of the sacrifice of Christ and His blood over that of sacrificial animal blood, which did produce some effects such as " sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:" HOW MUCH MORE will the sacrificial blood of Christ purge the conscience from dead works, for those He died and effects them unto serving the Living God. This service unto the Living God cant be done by a spiritually dead sinner, hence denoting Spiritual life shall be given.

The word serve in Heb 9:14 is the greek word latreuó and does mean to worship

Its the word Paul used here Phil 3:3

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

The circumcision here Paul means has nothing to do with physical circumcision, but circumcision of the heart by the Spirit Rom 2:28-29

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

The death of Christ shall effect the circumcision that is of the heart, in the Spirit so that those Christ died for shall serve/worship the Living God. This comes with the death of Christ. So anyone that never comes to serving the Living God through the Spirit, Christ couldn't have died for them, lest there was a defect in His death and its effects its promised to effect.

Those who teach that people Christ died for still wind up dead in sin, unregenerate in unbelief teach against Christ and His Blood.

The virtue of Christs death !

It was by His death that the old testament saints received remission of their sins, Hence Heb 9:15

And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

This was indicated when Moses and Elijah spoke with Lord about His death, These two perhaps being representative of the Law and the Prophets. Lk 9:30-31

Old testament saints had an interest in the death of Christ and what it accomplished.

Amen ! If any Christ died for are never delivered from spiritual death, that is, they're never given a New Spiritual / Circumcised Heart Exek. 36:26-27 in their lifetime and caused to Live Spiritually unto God, they make God a liar and His Word null and void.

2 Cor. 5:14-15

14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

One of the accomplishments of Christs death is that it resulted in issuing forth a seed. Isa 53:10

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

You see "making His soul an Offering for sin" speaks of His death, which results in seeing His seed, or His posterity spiritually. The same is the testimony of Christ Himself here Jn 12:24

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

The corn of wheat which falls into the ground and dies is Christ soul being made an offering for sin, and when He dies brings forth fruit which coincides with seeing His seed.

Amen to that ! The Spiritual Seed that Christ, the "corn of wheat" shall see that He was made an offering for sin Is. 53:10; the Fruit thereof John 12:24, is one and the same with the Elect / Sheep given Him of the Father John 10:27-29; Eph. 1:4-7 that He gives Eternal Life to John 10:27-28. Upon the cross: Jesus overcame Death (over whom we, as believers, now have authority); Hell (over whom we also now have authority) and sickness (over which we how have authority). When The Body of Christ comes together in the unity of the faith under His Banner of Love we will give sickness a holiday, put Death and Hell (who are spirits, described as being cast into the Lake of Fire along with Satan and his angels) under our feet, where they belong and on that day there will be no more sickness, death or anyone being deceived by Hell. Jesus is sitting at The Right Hand of The Father EXPECTING until His enemies be made His Footstool. It is our job to do this and the last enemy to be placed under His Feet is: Death. On that day: men will seek death and not find it. Can you imagine people jumping off a bridge and just bouncing? Kinda' cool, I think. :thumb:

Absolutely Brother ! Moses and Elijah, as well as all OT Saints, the Heirs of Promise Gal. 4:28, God's elect Eph. 1:4-7, or Christ's Sheep John 10:11; were truly Blessed as no sin was imputed to them [as David penned in Ps. 32:1-2] and of the same Spiritual Seed of Abraham, the Seed of Christ Gal. 3:16, 29 as NT saints. Together, they were made Righteous, in the Mind and Purpose of God Eph. 3:11, by the Obedience of One Rom. 5:19, Christ the Lamb; their Covenant Head, Surety Mediator and Saviour Heb. 7:22 Christ Jesus; Is. 53:6 before the world began Rev. 13:8; 2 Tim. 1:9.

The Second Blessing of the Blessing of Abraham, what God meant when He said to Abraham Gen 12:3

3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

The second one is the Holy Spirit and or Spiritual Life. Lets go back to Gal 3:13-14

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

That [hina purpose] we [Abraham's Spiritual Seed] might receive the PROMISE of the Spirit through Faith [Christ's Faithfulness]

It was because Christ, Abraham's Seed Gal 3:16 obeyed the Voice of His Father as a Surety Head for the Spiritual Seed of Abraham, that Seed receives the Blessing of the Spirit for Life.

Remember this incident in Gen 22:12-18

Well Abraham was merely a Type of Christ in this, and its fulfillment is In Christ and His Obedience unto Death, because He obeyed the Voice of God, in Him all the Seed shall be blessed with the Blessing of Abraham which is the Spirit.

That's why as soon as Jesus Christ ascended to the Right Hand of God having conqured Death, He received from the Father THE PROMISE OF THE SPIRIT to pour out on His Seed, the Seed of Abraham Acts 2:32-33

32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Yes, that was upon a Jewish Remnant of the Spiritual Seed of Abraham, but we know He did it also upon a Gentile Remnant of the Seed of Abraham Titus 3:5-6

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
Or through Faith, His Faithfulness !

Titus to whom Paul wrote the Letter to was an Gentile Pastor of a Church.

So all for whom Christ died, and redeemed from the curse of the Law, it was in order that through Christ they shall be Justified by Faith and that they shall be given the Spirit, New Life, New Birth.

This must happen to everyone Christ died for, if it doesn't, the scriptures are false and unreliable in its Testimony in this Matter. Those who teach that Christ died for individuals who subsequently die in unbelief and their sins as Per Jn 8:24, they are calling God a Liar, Christ's Redeeming Death a Lie, The Spirit a Lie, the Scriptures a Lie !

Amen and Thank You for this Powerful Message my Brother !

1 Pet 3:18

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Did you know that sinners being converted to God in Faith and Repentance is one of the main purposes of Christ's death " being put to death in the flesh"

And His Resurrection, that all for whom He died might be returned unto God ! Remember it is written Isa 53:6

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all[He was put to death for their iniquities].

Now " the all we who went astray here as the prophet has written" it was all of them that Christ's being put to death in the flesh was to bring back or return to God ! He was as their Shepherd return them back to God, and if each one of them is not brought back or returned to God as it is stated here 1 Pet 2:25

25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

That word returned is Epistrepho and means :

to cause to return, to bring back

Now if each one of those who went astray are not returned back, 100% of them then God's Purpose in Christ's Death and Resurrection has failed, its as simple as that !

The same as, if Christ does not seek and save all that were Lost Lk 19:10

10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. The same ones as in Isa 53:6 who went astray :

If He does not both seek and save 100 % of those He was to seek and to save, then He is a failure in the Fathers Mission, and everyone who teaches that Christ does not save all whom He came to seek, 100 % of them, you are guilty of calling Him a Failure, and its no way around it, and you must answer to it in the day of Judgment !

Amen Brother, that is absolutely correct !
