The Atonement: What did it REALLY Accomplish?

All for whom Christ has died, they no more owe for sin the wages of death, for it is written Rom 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Just as Justice owed them death through their sin in Adam, Christ paid that debt for them, now Justice owes them Life from the dead, not because of anything they did or did not do, but strictly through the Lord Jesus Christ, what He did for them.

You see, all for whom He died, all of their sins against God's law, past and present and future, the Penalty of Death, even Eternal Death, has already been endured and paid in full unto the uttermost farthing.

God has been satisfied in His Justice regard to them; But now in light of this Justice Satisfied, Both God and His Law and Grace demand the bestowal of Eternal Life, or to be made alive from death ! Eph 2:1,5

5 Even when we were dead in sins[Because of the wages of sin Rom 6:23], hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved )

This word quickened is the greek word syzōopoieō which means:

to make one alive together

a) of Christians, with Christ

Its made of the word zōopoieō which means:

to produce alive, begat or bear living young

2) to cause to live, make alive, give life

And that is God's Justice answering to what Christ has done for them in taking away their sins which sins is what merited their death in sin in the first place. Now that that issue has been resolved [Christ died for their sins, which sins brought about their spiritual death] Justice demands that they be made alive, just as much as it did demand their death for sin !

Lets remember, that all that perfect obedience Christ rendered to God's Law as it should be, He rendered it not for Himself, but for all those He died for, and as a Free Gift, that perfect obedience is imputed to their account, and that Righteousness of His, charged to them, demands Life, for with Righteousness is Life Prov 12:28

In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

John Gill writes on this verse:

In the way of righteousness is life,.... The life of the soul, or spiritual life, as Aben Ezra; and eternal life, as Gersom. One that is in the true way of righteousness is one that is instilled by the righteousness of Christ, which justification is the justification of life: such an one is made alive, and reckons himself alive in a law sense; and enjoys true spiritual peace and comfort, arising from the love and favour of God, and acceptance with him, in which he sees his interest, and in which is life; and this righteousness, by which he is justified before God, entitles him to eternal life; to which the path of holiness, he is directed and enabled to walk in, leads; though it is a narrow way, and a strait gate, Matthew 7:14. Christ, and righteousness and holiness in and by him, are the way, the truth, and the life, or the true way to eternal life; and all in this way now live spiritually, and shall live eternally, John 14:6;

and in the pathway thereof there is no death; no condemnation to them that are in Christ, the way, and are justified by his righteousness; the law's sentence of death shall not be executed on them, though it passed upon them in Adam; spiritual death shall not again prevail over those who are passed from death to life; nor shall they be hurt at the second death; they shall never die that death, it shall have no power over them; life and immortality are the sure effects of being in the way of righteousness. The Targum renders it, "the way of the perverse": and the Septuagint version, "of those that remember evil": and the Syriac and Arabic versions, "the way of angry men is unto death": and so the Vulgate Latin version,

"the out of the way path leads to death:'

and so some Hebrew copies read, instead of "no death, unto death"; but the most read as we do, and which the Jewish commentators follow.

So those Christ died for are credited with Two Blessings because of Him or through Him: Full and Perfect Obedience to God's Law [Righteousness] and full satisfaction paid for every last one of their sins they did commit against God's Law, in their head Adam Rom 5:12 and in their own Persons, So Justice and Truth and Grace demands that they Live, be made alive,nd that everlastingly. For through Christ they have done what the Rich Young ruler was not able to do to enter into Life Matt 19:16-17

16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

It makes them Perfect before God !

The death of Christ alone, for all whom He died, which was only for His Church, His Body, it perfected them all before God's Law and Justice.

Heb 10:14

14 For by one offering/His Death he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

This word perfected is the greek word teleioō and means:

to make perfect, complete

a) to carry through completely, to accomplish, finish, bring to an end

2) to complete (perfect)

a) add what is yet wanting in order to render a thing full

b) to be found perfect

3) to bring to the end (goal) proposed

4) to accomplish

a) bring to a close or fulfilment by event

1) of the prophecies of the scriptures

Its used once as consecrate Heb 7:28

Now the AMP bible captures the Truth and meaning of the word in Heb 10:14 by rendering it:

14 For by a single offering He has forever completely cleansed and perfected those who are consecrated and made holy.

In this one offering of Christ, for those He died for, before God they are absolutely complete and entire by the Offering See Col 2:10, consisting in the remission of all their sins, and the Imputation of Christ's Righteousness ! Its Christ's Perfection imputed and the Grounds of their Perfection before God, a free act of Grace !

It bears fruit unto God !

The Death of Christ, in and of itself, bears fruit unto God ! Jesus says in the 12th of Jn 12:24,32-33

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.

Jesus was indicating His Death and what it would effect, fruit unto God; that being all kinds of men shall be drawn or led to Him by it.

That word draw is the greek word helkō and means:

to draw, drag off

2) metaph., to draw by inward power, lead, impel

As a result of His Death, the fruit of it will be that all for whom He died will be lead or impeled to Him.

What that mean is this, remember Jesus words here Jn 10:3-4

3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

Well the word draw is another way of saying " He leadeth them out " That word leadeth means: fetch out,to cause to come; bring

Notice also it says that He putteth forth His own Sheep ! The word bring forth is the greek ekballō:

to bring out of, to draw or bring forth

Jn 10:3 says that He calleth His own Sheep by Name. When He does that He puts forth His Power, and they [His Sheep, His People] are made willing in that day

to lead one forth or away somewhere with a force which he cannot resist

This is the irresistible call of the Elect or the Sheep to follow Christ.

Ps 110:3

3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

And as a result of Him putting them forth, they follow Him, or become His Disciple. That word follow is the greek word akoloutheō:

to follow one who precedes, join him as his attendant, accompany him

2) to join one as a disciple, become or be his disciple

a) side with his party

And thats what the Death of Christ promised to do in bearing fruit, it produces followers, believers, disciples, learners of Christ, and thats a guarantee !

Thats what Jesus promised to do by His Death, draw all men to Himself, not all men without exception, but all of His Sheep from all nations !

If we do not believe this or understand it, or deny it, we are unbelievers, and have no ideal at all what Christ's Death accomplished, it bears fruit unto God, it makes Converts to True Christianity !

It bears fruit unto God !2

Now Paul writes of the same thing, the great purpose of Christ's Death Rom 7:4

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

All this transpires as a result of the Body of Christ, meaning His Death. Remember those who Christ represented when He died, when He rose from the dead it was for [because of] their Justification Rom 4:25

25 Who was delivered for[because of] our offences, and was raised again for[because of] our justification.

And the Just or Justified shall live by Faith Rom 1:17

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

All for whom He represented in His Obedience, shall be made Just or Righteous Rom 5:19

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

That obedience includes His Death, or " The Body of Christ" and by it those He died for are made Righteous experientially by New Birth !

So in other words, for those whom He died to bear fruit, it is He Himself bearing fruit from His dying Jn 12:24,32-33

The fruit those bear for whom He died is Faith, for Faith in Christ is a fruit of His Death, so is Love, Love to God and our brethren in Christ, they fruits of His Death, Peace, the Peace we have is a fruit of Christ's Death, the same with Joy, its a fruit of Christ's Death. The Joy and Peace of believing is a fruit of Christ's death Rom 15:13

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Yes, the Joy, Peace, and believing are all fruits of Christ's Death. In case you have not noticed, these are all fruit of the Spirit which all for whom He died receives of in New Birth by His Resurrection from the dead 1 Pet 1:3

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

3 Praised (honored, blessed) be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)! By His boundless mercy we have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,AMP

By New Birth we enter into the Kingdom of God Rom 14:17

17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Thats the same Peace and Joy through Believing as in Rom 15:13

13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Notice also the Holy Ghost is Named in both Verses, because we have been Born of Him.

Yes, all those fruits produced out of the believer, are actually His fruit produced from His being that corn of wheat that fell to the ground and died Jn 12:24

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Now, if all for whom He died for as that corn of wheat, if they all do not bear fruit of Faith in Him Rom 7:4

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Because Faith Joins them to Him in Fellowship 1 Cor 1:9

9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

That fellowship denotes that marriage of Rom 7:4, its the word koinōnia:

fellowship, association, community, communion, joint participation, intercourse

a) the share which one has in anything, participation

b) intercourse, fellowship, intimacy

If all do not become married in Fellowship with the Son, then His Bride is defected, and His Death failed the Purpose of God the Father !

It is finished Jesus said !

Jn 19:30

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

What did the Blessed Saviour mean by these words ? They meant quite a lot, to include the bringing in of a Everlasting Righteousness as Per Dan 9:24

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Remember Jesus words here to John the Baptist at His Water Baptism when John would have prevented Him Matt 3:15

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Jesus while here on this Earth, being made under the Law Gal 4:4, was in active obedience to all of God's Law, but not for Himself, but as Surety for His Church, His People, and it was an obedience that fulfilled all the Righteousness of the Law that God required for His People. He also bare the penalty of their sins for their Transgressions of the Law of God, beginning in Adam and then to add their personal transgressions.

Jesus upon completion of His Obedience unto death Phil 2:8, He brought in the Everlasting Righteousness His People needed by satisfying the Law and Justice of God in their behalf.

It was an Righteousness that would be laid to their account, on the account of all for whom He represented, So Jesus said Jn 16:7-11

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Pay close attention to Vs 10 . This speaks to His Once and for all finished work, that made an end of sins, finished transgression, and has for His People brought in for them a Everlasting Righteousness, that was completed by His Once and for all Offering as their Hight Priest Surety.

This Offering once and for all satisfied God's Justice for the sins of His People, and in regards to this finished accomplishment, Ye shall see me no more.

Under the Mosaic Levitical Priesthood, the people would see the Hight Priest once annually with the Atonement Sacrifice for the Sins of the People, and they could not be made perfect by them Heb 9:24-26

24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;

26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

So He goes to the Father after making that once and for all Offering for the sins of the People and He is there with that Righteousness He earned for them, and is there on their account as He is there for them Vs 24.

Now for all whom this applies, God does in His Providence of Messengers, does send to each of them the Gospel of their Salvation, and does reveal to them that Righteousness of God that has been laid to their account and persons through Jesus Christ Rom 1:16-17. Once this Righteousness is made known to God given Faith, we are then able to live by Faith or Walk according to the Spirit, understanding that the Righteousness of the Law is fulfilled in us by Imputation, as we walk by Faith, Paul's point here Rom 8:4

That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Please note, that this Righteousness of the Law is fulfilled in us, and not by us, having been revealed in us by the Gospel !

It is finished for all whom Christ died, and He will give them Knowledge of it by the Gospel !

Jesus Christ the Righteous !

1 Jn 2:1

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Our Surety's Righteousness is Ours If He died and rose again as our Surety Head, for it is written of the Church Jer 33:16

In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our righteousness.

The Lord Jesus Christ in this contest of 1 Jn 2 is being looked upon as the Mediator, Surety, and Representative of all He died for and was a propitiation for their sins. And so John introduces Him as Jesus Christ the Righteous, an Advocate, denoting His Legal Union with those He died. He stands as Advocate not merely as a private person, but as the Representative Head of His Church that He Loved and gave Himself for Eph 5:25, and He being Righteous is but declaring them to be also for whom He died Rom 5:19

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

The Righteousness of Christ here being emphasized by John is not His Essential Righteousness He has in the Godhead, being God, but its His Surety Righteousness as the God/Man, obtained in His Perfect Surety Obedience, for in that He was made Perfect Heb 5:9, He perfectly provided complete satisfaction to God's Law and Justice on their behalf, and so it follows that He is their Legal aid, counselor, advocate as Jesus Christ the Righteous;

And He and those He died for are legally one in the eyes of the Law. His subjective legal obedience and Righteousness that He accrued by His active obedience to God's Law while here on earth, has been placed to their account, and they by it, are accounted Righteous as He is Righteous before God's law and Justice, and on that premise He is their Advocate; Even if they are sinners by nature or in a state of sin, because He died for them He is still their advocate, for He intercedes for the Transgressors that He died in behalf of Isa 53:12

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Because He bare their sin ! So John is saying that all for whom He died has an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous and in Fact their Righteousness before God 1 Cor 1:30.

Even as sinners and enemies, those Christ has died for, are reconciled to God by Christ's death while being so, hence another proof that as unbelievers, He, based upon His Death in their behalf, is their Advocate, Jesus Christ the Righteous.

Jesus Christ the Righteous !

You see, all for whom Christ died, He died for having all their guilt and transgressions imputed to Him, So on the other hand, all that He in His suffering obedience unto death, is imputed to them. The guilt of their sins were reckoned upon Him as though He was personally guilty of them; And likewise What He did in all of His Obedience to God's Law and Justice, in their behalf, has been reckoned to them as if they personally done it themselves; Thus having Christ's Surety Righteousness charged to them as they obeyed in Christ, as they disobeyed in Adam, Adam disobeyed and made them sinners, but Christ obeyed and them Righteous Rom 5:19

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

The reason why Paul uses the future tense " Shall be made Righteous" is Because they are born into the world experiencing first the effects of Adam's disobedience, and are born sinners, but because Christ was their Surety, they shall be born again afterwards to experience the effects of Christ's Obedience. However, it must be understood that God will not constitute anyone Righteous whom He does not first reckons as Righteous. !

All for whom Christ died are by that one death of His alone, apart from anything else, made Righteous or Just, for that is the teaching of scripture in the OT Isa 53:11

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

11 After this ordeal, he will see satisfaction.
“By his knowing [pain and sacrifice],
my righteous servant makes many righteous;
it is for their sins that he suffers.CJB

and the NT Rom 5:19

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

19 For just as by one man’s disobedience (failing to hear, heedlessness, and carelessness) the many were constituted sinners, so by one Man’s obedience the many will be constituted righteous (made acceptable to God, brought into right standing with Him).

As the sins of those He died for were charged to Him, His sacrifice paid off their sin debt against God, and satisfied His Law and Justice. Now in accomplishing that, His Perfect obedience to God as a Man, made for them He died for, a Righteousness, meaning that His Perfect obedience / righteousness up to and including the Cross Phil 2:8, is accounted to them, charged to their account.

This is in the same manner as their sins were accounted to Him, and thats the exchange of reconciliation Rom 5:10.

In this exchange of imputation, Justice demands that those whose sins were charged to Christ, that His righteousness and law keeping obedience be imputed to them.

So one not being transacted would cancel out the other, meaning if, His Righteousness / Obedience is not charged to them, then their sins of disobedience could not be charged to Him, consequently giving Him no purpose or reason to die at all; Hence Paul states the exchange as it legally is in God's Law and Justice 2 Cor 5:21

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

21 Christ didn’t have any sin. But God made him become sin for us. So we can be made right with God because of what Christ has done for us.NIRV

This merely means, His Surety obedience as God Man, which is His Perfect obedience to God in behalf of those He lived and died for as Man, it is imputed or charged to them, in the very same manner as our or their sins were imputed or charged to Him. Thats the Gospel, the Word of Reconciliation, for we cannot preach it without elucidating the stated facts of this reconciliation or exchange, whereby all for whom He died or was made sin for, are by that alone made Righteous and approved of God !

Shall be saved by His Life !

Rom 5:10

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

All for whom Christ died, shall be made alive by His Resurrection. Those in organized religion have no clue of the saving effects of Christ's Death, as He died as the Head of the Body, His Church Eph 5:25; And as a vindication of the success of His death as He satisfied God's Law and Justice for them, He was raised up from the dead for their Justification Rom 4:25

25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification or

25 Who was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification (our acquittal), [making our account balance and absolving us from all guilt before God].AMP

And its by or through His Resurrection from the dead they are begotten again 1 Pet 1:3

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

3 Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us new life and a hope that lives on. CEV

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God has great mercy, and because of his mercy he gave us a new life. This new life brings us a living hope through Jesus Christ’s resurrection from death.ERV

Now upon His Resurrection, He did also ascend, and of course He ascended as the vindicated one in behalf of those for whom sins He died or was delivered for Rom 4:25, and He gives Grace to each of them according to measure of his Gift Eph 4:7-8

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Each person for whom Christ died, His Body Members, the Church, is given Grace and Gifts to serve His Body in the ordained work God has already prepared Eph 2:10

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Each person Christ died for was in the hope of their calling Eph 4:4

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

Every member of that Body He is the Saviour of as Per Eph 5:23

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, eeven as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body.

Will be called in the Hope of that Calling. Now the Grace given to each member of that body for whom Christ died, according to the measure of Christ's Gift, is also what Paul means here Rom 5:15

15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

That Grace which is said to abound to many by the Gift of Christ, is the same as that said to be given here Eph 4:7

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

They all for whom He died, shall be saved by His Life !

They are raised with Him also !

All those Christ died for as their Representative Head, they also, as He was raised from the dead [on their behalf Rom 4:25] by the Glory of the Father Per Rom 6:4

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

They also were raised together with Him so that they can walk in the Newness of Life, being raised from the Spiritual dead; Thats why its written in 1 Pet 1:3, that those Christ died for are begotten again, which reflects the fact that they were in Him when He was raised from the Dead as their Head and Saviour Representative, and by this New Birth, we begin a New Life, and we do not continue to sin that Grace may abound, simply because in the New Born Again Nature we cannot sin, being born of God 1 Jn 3:9

9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 Jn 5:18

18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

Please Note. This New Life from being begotten again is not the life the believer has in Adam which continually sins ! However this Life of being born of God cannot sin !

Notice Col 3:1

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

See that ? When was the believer risen with Christ ? It was precisely at the same Time Christ was raised from the dead as the Head of the Body.

The believer did not cooperate with God in his being raised from the dead, he was raised representatively with Christ.

Paul uses the aorist indicative passive here Ye were raised. He uses the same here Eph 2:6 but the active voice, because God did the raising, and those Christ died for were raised up together with Christ when God did they raising.

And the believer believed as a consequence of that Fact of being raised up with Christ, Col 2:12

12 Buried with him in baptism[His Death], wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith [faithfulness] of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

12 you were buried along with him by being immersed; and in union with him, you were also raised up along with him by God’s faithfulness that worked when he raised Yeshua from the dead. CJB

Faith here should be rendered faithfulness, as its the Father's Faithfulness that raises up His Son from the dead. Christ always had an eye to His Father's Faithfulness to do that Ps 16:10

10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Ps 89:24

But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted. See Exaltation of Christ Phil 2:8-9

But also, Faith is produced in all those Christ died for, its produced by God's Power that raised up Christ from the dead Eph 1:19

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

Thats why Peter says we are begotten again to a lively Hope 1 Pet 1:3. Hope is the Twin Brother of Faith, so Faith is the substance of things hoped for !

All who come to Faith and or Hope in Christ, only make manifest that they were raised together with Him, when God raised Christ from the dead !

Redemption is Salvation !

Many today in organized religion would make a difference between Salvation and Redemption, in God saving one and God redeeming one; But there really is no difference at all, If God Redeems us then He saves us, simple as that. God and the Lamb are Universally praised as to the effects, accomplishments of Christ's Redeeming Death Rev 5:9-10

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Here the redemption effected makes those Christ died for God's purchased possession as in Titus 2:14

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

The NAS reads:

14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

The word redeemed here can also mean saved or ransomed, He saved us unto God or ransomed us unto God, all of these are Salvation Words, Synonyms:

For Salvation is meant here Lk 1:68

68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

The word lutrósis:

(in the Old Testament: ransoming from imprisonment for debt, or from slavery, release from national misfortune, etc.), liberation, deliverance, release

Now the greek word Salvation means:

welfare, prosperity, deliverance, preservation, salvation, safety.

If one has been redeemed, they have been saved. The terms are as interchangeable as one saying Let me ride in your car and one saying let me ride in your automobile !

Notice about Israel saved Ex 14:30

Thus the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.

Israel redeemed 1 Chron 17:21

And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?

So when Paul writes of Redemption Eph 1:7

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

It means Eph 1:7

7 In whom we have Salvation through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; !

By His stripes we are healed !

1 Pet 2:24

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

So because of His stripes [death], those He died for receive a New Heart for their healing, their being made whole. By nature, all men to include the elect have a heart that is incurably evil, sick Jer 17:9

9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

The word desperately is the word 'anash and means:

to be weak, sick, frail

a) (Qal)

1) to be incurable

2) to be sick

3) desperate, incurable, desperately wicked, woeful, very sick (pass participle) (metaph.)

b) (Niphal) to be sick

The word incurable means:

not curable; that cannot be cured, remedied, or corrected: an incurable disease.

not susceptible to change the human heart is incurably wicked and evil, it cannot change.

There is another scripture that confirms this Truth Jer 13:23

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

This is all humans by nature, we are accustomed to do evil. This word accustomed means taught, instructed in, trained in doing evil ! Thats because of the evil heart, and it can no more change as a leopard his spots, or an Ethiopian his skin.

This is very important truth. Scripture here is very clear that the wicked heart cannot change. The word change in Jer 13:23 is the word haphak and means:

to turn, overthrow, overturn

a) (Qal)

1) to overturn, overthrow

2) to turn, turn about, turn over, turn around

3) to change, transform

b) (Niphal)

1) to turn oneself, turn, turn back

2) to change oneself

3) to be perverse

4) to be turned, be turned over, be changed, be turned against

5) to be reversed

6) to be overturned, be overthrown

7) to be upturned

It also means converted as in Isa 60:5

5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

This all tells us that the human heart cannot repent towards God and stop doing evil ! We cannot change.

But, the death of Christ, His stripes heals, and as an evidence, a New Heart in New Birth is given which enables us to live unto Righteousness experimentally and entails being born again or anew, it means we are made experimentally righteous in order to do righteous.

Now again, by nature the heart of the sons of men are fully set in them to do evil Gen 6:5

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Ecclesiastes 8:11

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men are fully set in them to do evil.

Gen 8:21

21 And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

And so finally, before any man can do good [spiritually good and pleasing to God] he must be healed, made whole, cured by Christ's stripes, and that is what His stripes accomplished and effects for those whose sins He bare, it causes them to live unto Righteousness !

It changes the sinner !

Those who deny that Christ's death in and of itself, saves those He died for, they are guilty of reducing the Value of His Blood to that no more than the animal blood used in the OT, that were mere types and shadows of His Blood. For those animal offerings could not appease the wrath of God, nor could they change the sinner, but Christ's Sacrifice of Himself hath once and for all Satisfied God's Law and Justice, and Wrath against all those for whom He died, the Sheep. He has propitiated God for them 1 Jn 2:2; 1 Jn 4:10

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

10 In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins.

properly, propitiation; an offering to appease (satisfy) an angry, offended party.

And He reconciled them to God Rom 5:10

10 For if, when we were enemies/unbelievers, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

But more, not only did Christ's offering of Himself propitiate God and reconcile us to God, it also effected or effects in us an inward change Heb 9:14

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Now who and what does the inspired writer here credit for the purifying of the conscience from dead works to serving the Living God ? Now lets see who will answer this question honestly from this scripture ?

It changes the sinner 2

In my opinion the writer of Hebrews 9:14 credits the Blood of Christ for the change. The OT did not affect the conscious Heb 9:9

9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;

Heb 10:1-3

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. See Heb 10:14

2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

The Sacrifice of Christ affected the inward being [conscience] Heb 9:14;10:22

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Heb 10:22

22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

As well as it ushers us into the service of God. That word serve in Heb 9:14 latreuō:

II.to serve, minister to, either to the gods or men and used alike of slaves and freemen
A.
in the NT, to render religious service or homage, to worship

B.
to perform sacred services, to offer gifts, to worship God in the observance of the rites instituted for his worship
i.
of priests, to officiate, to discharge the sacred office

So its just as John writes here Rev 1:5-6

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Hath made us Kings and Priests symbolizes Spiritual Service to the Living God. But now if Christ's Blood has no more influence than the blood of goats and rams, or sin offerings and burnt offerings which He takes no pleasure in Heb 10:4-9

4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

Then we have a very low opinion of it [Christ's Blood] which in my opinion is tantamount to Blasphemy !

Christ's intercession is for all whom He died !

Rom 8:34

4 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.NIV

Does Christ make intercession for everyone He died for ? Yes He does, and that while thy are yet unbelievers, or before they believe, though they shall believe as here Jn 17:20

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Jesus here is praying for everyone who shall ever believe on Him through their Preaching the Gospel ! He knows who they are, for they are His Sheep who shall through them hear His Voice Jn 10:16

16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

Note: Thats why the Second Coming had not yet occurred, for all the Sheep up unto the end of the age must hear His voice and believe 2 Pet 3:9.

The Sheep however, before they believe, are as all men by nature, unbelievers and enemies and children of wrath Eph 2:3

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Yet because He died for them, and rose again for their Justification Rom 4:25, He makes Intercession for them.

Most in organized religion do not believe that Christ makes intercession for unbelievers He died for, which is very unreasonable when you consider His very words in Jn 17:20 and that He Loved them and gave Himself for them, even while they were Unbelievers and Enemies Eph 5:25

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Rom 5:6-8

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

They think that after He has done the greater for them [Died for them], while they are enemies, He will not do the lesser, He suffered and died for them while they were ungodly, but will refuse to make intercession for them while they are ungodly.

Now if His Death did reconcile them to God while they were yet being enemies as clearly stated here Rom 5:10

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Then why would He withhold Intercession for them based upon the fact that He died for them , while they are yet enemies, for Has not the Apostle also written here Rom 8:33-34

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

In fact its a Truth that those Christ died for and reconciled by His death, it is true that they shall be saved by His Life Rom 5:10, and that is confirmed in that those whom He intercedes in behalf of, doeth by that [intercession] come unto God by Him, meaning by His Life of Intercession for them Heb 7:25

25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Thats the fulfillment of the promise in Rom 5:10 that they shall be saved by His Life, that life by which He ever liveth to make Intercession for them, that is He intercedes on their behalf that an application of His Saving death and merits be applied unto them, and He always is Heard by His Father for them !

If those Christ died for do not become Believers, His Death for them as well as His Intercession for them has failed miserably !

Belivers are His Inheritance !

Ps 2:6-8

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Most in organized religions do not understand that believers are Christ's Reward for His Death's Accomplishment. The Resurrected Son here is encouraged to ask and the Father will give Him His Inheritance [Here Gentile Believers] and His Possession.

Thats why Jesus says of some Jn 6:37

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Back up in Vs 8 the word inheritance is the word nachalah and means:

possession, property, inheritance, heritage

a) property

b) portion, share

c) inheritance, portion

Its used here as heritage Mic 7:18

18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

So Christ as the Risen Saviour King has an remnant within the jews, and within the Gentiles or here called the Heathen. They are just as much His Inheritance and Possession as the elect jews were. Thats why Jesus said, other Sheep I have [possess] which are not of this fold, of the jews sheep pen.

Jn 10:16

16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

The One Sheepfold Is the House of Israel !

That word have is the word echō and means:

to have i.e. own, possess

There is another word in Ps 2:8, the word possession, a different word in hebrew but akin to the former, and its the word 'achuzzah

possession, property

a) land

b) possession by inheritance

This word has the connotation of taking hold of, seizing

The word ask in Ps 2:8

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Its the word sha'al and means:

to ask, enquire, borrow, beg

a) (Qal)

1) to ask, ask for

2) to ask (as a favour), borrow

3) to enquire, enquire of

4) to enquire of, consult (of deity, oracle)

5) to seek

But it also has a stronger meaning, that of to demand, there is a type of asking that can be demanding as here 1 Sam 8:10

10 And Samuel told all the words of the Lord unto the people that asked of him a king. Vs 5

5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

But the Son demands what is His By Inheritance and Right for His Covenant Obedience to the Purpose of God ! Dan 7:14

And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Thats who believes on Christ, those of His Inheritance, His Possessions ! Those whom He redeemed by His Blood !

He is the Captain of their Salvation by His Death !

Heb 2:9-10

9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

The Every Man in Vs 9, Christ by tasting death in behalf of them, becomes the Captain of their Salvation. So if He tasted death for one, He is that one's Saviour. What does this word Captain mean ? Its the word archēgos:

the chief leader, prince

a) of Christ

2) one that takes the lead in any thing and thus affords an example, a predecessor in a matter, pioneer

3) the author

In this context He is the Author of their Salvation by means of tasting death for them, by which He will lead them to Glory !

He is the Author in that He is the causation of their Salvation. He is the determinant of it.

By this, He is also the Author of their Faith Heb 12:2

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

What Faith is that ? Heb 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

This Faith accompanies the Salvation He is the Author of Heb 2:10

10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

For Christ to taste death for someone, and that Person is not saved by it, makes His Death insufficient to save them, and deprives Him of being the Captain, or the Author of their Salvation.

The ASV

10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

He is also the Pioneer of their Salvation

He is the Head of those He died and rose in behalf of, a went into the presence of God in the Heavenly regions to appear before God's for them as the Captain of their Salvation. Heb 9:12

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Heb 9:24

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

As our forerunner or pioneer Heb 6:20

Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Forerunner/prodromos:

a forerunner

a) esp. one who is sent before to take observations or act as a spy, a scout, a light armed soldier

b) one who comes in advance to a place where the rest are to follow

Thats also the definition of a pioneer:

a person who is among those who first enter or settle a region, thus opening it for occupation and development by others.

Christ's Victorious Death !

Christ by His death, has defeated death and satan, but only for those He died for and who eventually become believers. Its no doubt that Christ's victorious death landed the fatal blow that crushed the Head of the serpent for all whom Christ died Rom 16:20

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

As it was foretold in Gen 3:15

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

However this victory is solely promised to the Seed of the Women, and not all mankind. Whenever one comes to converting Faith by the Sanctifying Work of the Spirit per 2 Thess 2:13, then that is one for whom Christ by His Victorious death defeated satan in behalf of them, and this is how we know that Christ died for their sins, because they shall believe His Gospel Truth.

Yet many shall die in their sins including unbelief per Jn 8:24, and many believe not and are already condemned Jn 3:18. What the natural man fails to understand is that unbelief is caused by the victory of the devil over one, its one of his evil works, case in point Matt 13:18-19

18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one[satan], and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

Mark 4:15

14 The sower soweth the word.

15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

Luke 8:12

12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

If you notice the luke account in Vs 12, it clearly states that its by satans activity that one does not believe and be saved, corresponding to satans activity here 2 Cor 4:3-4

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world[satan] hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Also corresponds to 2 Thess 2:10

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Thats because they are victims to satan's deceptions !

So unbelief is clearly the work of satan. Now understand this, if Christ's death has defeated satan and his works as per 1 Jn 3:8

8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

So hence, if and when anyone believes the Gospel,i its because the defeat of satan is being manifested, he can no longer keep them in unbelief as a testimony to Christ's Victorious death, but when one remains in unbelief, it means Christ's victorious death was not for them, and if we say that His death was for them, but they will not believe[a work of the devil] then we are saying that satan's work prevails over Christ's work for them ! This is blasphemy against Christ !

Finally let it be clear, for one to hear the Gospel, and not understand it and believe it to be saved, then they are victims of the Work of satan Matt 13:19

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

Lk 8:12

12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

2 Cor 4:3-4, and Christ, for those He died for, has destroyed the works of the devil 1 Jn 3:18. So if we insist Christ died for those who die in their sins in unbelief as Jn 8:24, then we side with satan and given give him the victory over a soul Christ died for, we admit the god of this world prevailed over Christ, there is no middle ground.

The only way to be found on Christ's side in this matter is to understand and acknowledge, that everyone of those Christ died for and defeated satan for, do believe, and those who don't believe and die in their sins Jn 8:24, Christ did not die for them !
